genre: angst, a fake as stand-in

Sakura should've noticed it beforehand.
That no husband of hers would come back in a full piece. That no husband of hers would embrace her in a warm hug right after he stepped into the room, sighing to her neck as if she were the relief he yearned for.
That no husband of hers would look at her as if she were everything he had ever wished in his life, so much so that she could be reflected in those very same pitch black orbs that used to be cast away from her.
That no husband of hers would stand in the kitchen, cooking her childhood meal while she talked about her days, when it used to be only her voice echoing in that solitude of a house.
That no husband of hers would hold Sarada's hand when they walked together after school, or even worse is that no husband of hers would even think of picking Sarada up from the school gate.
That no husband of hers... that no husband of hers would smile fondly to her and Sarada, so much that the corner of his lips lifted along with his eyes bent, a smile that was too warm, it erased away all the previous smirk he had ever offered to her.
That no husband of hers would caress the side of her cheek when they lay in the same bed, while he said that Sakura and Sarada are his reason to live
Perhaps, Sakura has always noticed it. Right off the bat when he entered the door with his hair done during the chunin exam. But did she say anything? No. Why? Because it felt like Sasuke had come back, or in real terms, as if he never left. As if the Sasuke that protected her during the exam had never left, as if the Sasuke of Team 7 had stayed with her until adulthood. As if the Sasuke that she wished would experience a normal adulthood, court her like a normal guy, propose to her as a childhood sweetheart was there.
Yes, there was no way Sakura didn't notice it. But what difference would it make? The Sasuke that she longed for 10 years has finally made it in front of her. In a flesh that was warm, in a soul that was gentle, in a house that was full of giggles. She has accepted this Sasuke at the moment he opened the door, with a smile as he said "I'm home." That was how her small family of three began to live in a lie that was too good to ignore the truth for 4 years.
So when her little house was finally raided by the Kunoha's ninjas, with Naruto coming along with a confused look, Sakura trembled heavily as the pointy tip of a familiar blade came close to the throat of her beloved husband. The day that should have been the happiest day for Sarada became her worst nightmare. As she has always known that this beloved husband of hers, was a dream that was too good to be true.
With the familiar and detached tone she had grown bored, Uchiha Sasuke finally said, "Who the hell are you and what are you doing in my house?"
Sakura couldn't control the shaking of her body and the terrified yet confused look on Sarada as the child tried to make sense of what was happening.
Everything occurred too fast and before Sakura could mutter anything, a small voice - cracked with a silent sob clung to her beloved husband, "Who are YOU? Why are you doing that to Papa?" Sarada croaked, hugging her father's arm as if it was natural and something flickered in Sasuke's eyes and he staggered a step back at the ferocity of Sarada's contempt.
"Who are you calling your papa? You're a shinobi yourself and you can't tell a fake? Truly disappointing."
This, is was really the husband of hers.
