it’s been a while!
planning is still going on, though it’s taking longer than expected... thank you for sticking with us!
first off, thank you all so much for the support PAUSE & EFFECT has received!! it means a lot to us, especially as a group that really only assembled ~2 weeks before the game was created.
you may have noticed that the demo announcement post mentioned a future updated demo. PAUSE & EFFECT was created for My First Game Jam, a 2 week event, so a lot of content ended up being cut because of the time shortage. thus, we plan on releasing a demo update to give players a more comprehensive idea of what the finished game will be like.
we have a pretty clear idea of what will be going into the demo update, and figured that we’d share them here so you know what to expect from us in the future!
PAUSE & EFFECT’s UPDATED DEMO is planned to include:
3 new areas, at least 2 of which will be battle zones!
at least 5 new enemy designs.
updated tiles, and additional NPCs with each new area.
a set of talksprites for one of the prominent NPCs introduced in the early demo.
completed flavor text for the bakery, as well as a lot more to be introduced with the new areas.
and finally, the reveal of the previously non-introduced, main ‘mystery’ element in PAUSE & EFFECT!

small update on our status
hello! first of all, we would like to apologize for disappearing immediately after introducing our game. PAUSE & EFFECT has been growing behind the scenes to become something bigger than we expected it to be, so some of the worldbuilding and scripting has to be revised as a result.
of course, it can be difficult to continue working on a game when you aren’t sure what’s going to be used or not, so that’s why our progress has slowed considerably. however, scripting aside, we do have an idea of what the updated demo of PAUSE & EFFECT is going to look like. so stay tuned for a post on that coming soon!

“In an irregular world where the dead rarely stay dead, ghosts and other such spirits are a regular sight. The protagonist, a decently experienced exorcist, knows this. And she knows what her job demands of her to do whenever she encounters one of the dead.
What she doesn’t know is how she should respond when she encounters one of the dying. Especially when said encounter takes place on a sunny, ordinary morning in the suburban town she lives in, a place where she least expected to witness both a death and a fervent refusal of it.
… If only she’d known what this would get her into… “
The demo of RPG VX Ace game, PAUSE & EFFECT, has been released! It features around 10 minutes worth of gameplay and acts as an introduction to the world of the game, a place full of spirits, exorcists, and tasty bread.

just tried it! This first demo is short and the graphics are minimalist, but that’s kinda everything about what i didn’t like.
The characters are interesting and, tbh, i’m very curious about the story and what comes next! i’ll look forward to play more of it!
also, i really love the CGs artstyle! it’s beautiful and colorful!

[DEMO] For the Soul
Above the land of the living lies the afterlife’s foundation, Heaven. Here resides two kinds of spirits: angels, who work to atone for their sins; and spirits, who refuse to pass on due to their own regrets.
In a pursuit for reincarnation, angels perform varying tasks to ensure Heaven’s functionality. Among them are reapers, who cruelly cull stubborn ghosts to further their own chances at crossing to the other side.
Lucifer, tired of the way Heaven handles things, decides there’s a better way to go about reaping.
In its current form, the game functions similarly to interactive fiction as it mostly consists of dialogue and cut scenes, but it’s planned to be developed into a more full-fledged RPG. For now, please enjoy this small introduction to an afterlife that we have much to expand on!
