Day twenty three of one hundred
In response to the State of New Jersey's intentions to demolish the historic buildings at the Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital, including the Kirkbride Building, the organization, Preserve Greystone will hold a strategy talk and preview a documentary about the site on Thursday, April 17, at the Morristown and Morris Township Library.
Adam McGovern, a trustee with Preserve Greystone, said that the group met with the State Treasurer Andrew Sidamon-Eristoff, Deputy Treasurer Robert Romano, and Chief of Staff Jennifer D'Autrechy in late March, at which time it was disclosed that the State Treasury which controls the Greystone site, had finalized the decision to tear down the structures. Undeterred, the non-profit organization that is dedicated to protecting the open space and historic buildings on the Greystone site will continue in its fight.
McGovern said, "We have met directly with the state, and our feelings are known to them. We are asking all supporters to write the governor to make their feelings known. We are continuing to try and arrange dialogue between the developers and the state (which has never contacted any of the firms who made proposals, to work out a plan). The Parsippany Township Council voted in favor of preservation in December, and we hope that public officials will continue to speak out."
