Josephine Press is selling a Griffin etching press. Josephine Press has been in operation in Santa Monica since 1984 and has a long established reputation for selling and restoring printmaking presses. Our master printer John Greco is skilled in the restoration and conditioning of presses. Originally purchased in 1975 and located in Topanga Canyon, this press is in good condition and will be calibrated and reconditioned before it’s sold. This press will print up to a 30” x40” paper. Comes with a full set of 3 blankets. Asking price is $4,000, does not include delivery or crating. Will move and help install within the LA area for an additional fee of $600

Glen Alps Printing Presses Top 3 photos University of Alberta, Bottom 4 photos SNAP Printshop Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
Presses asked, so I managed to get a few photos of this Glen Alps press at the University of Alberta. I had never heard of or seen this press before. Then when I went down to work some hours at SNAP Printshop I came across another.
Real sturdy. Motorized. 40” x 60” approx. press bed.The pressure adjusting screws on the top roller are linked with a chain so that both sides move in unison. Prints etchings well as well as really succeeds in printing collagraphs. Also a real nice red/orange colour. No baby blue but nice.
Which makes sense when one researches the maker, Glen Alps. Alps (1914 - 19960 was an artist and educator, credited with developing the collagraph print technique. Based in Seattle, Washington where he was the head of printmaking of University of Washington and later resided. He made about 30 presses during his lifetime.
I have yet to use this press yet but have heard good things from the techs here about it. I might make a collagraph just in honour.
uh....phenomenal. I used a non-motorized version of one of these etching presses in my undergrad, but at the time had no idea of the history. Thanks so much to J. Green for this post.

What is this a MUSEUM?!‽ Get that Iron Hand Press to work FOR you!
This is an Albion Iron Hand Press created in England by Hopkinson & Cope. The bed size is most likely right around 24 x 18 inches.
(oh, plus a sleeping cat.)
Nice little Griffin etching press at University of Alberta
Forgot the brand of this press but it’s an 8’ x 4’ (244cm x 122cm) motorized beast of an etching press. I can’t wait to get it going :-D

Takach Motorized Etching Press
we must know the name, for science.
little glimpse of another nice etching press in the background too. Maybe we could get a picture of that one too.
Check out this amazing Chandler & Price proof press for sale… right here in Seattle! Oh, if only I had the space for this beauty… I would snatch it up in a second. From the pictures, it looks to be nicely restored with detail paint and everything. This would be a nice addition to any growing studio. From the ad:
“Howdy folks, I’ve got a lovely 1880’s era cast iron proof press for sale. It’s a galley height rolling pin style press. I’ve used it in the past for printing linoleum cuts & proofing type. Easy to use printing press and in great shape!
The “rolling pin” section is removable and weighs about 100 lbs. The bed/legs section weighs between 100 and 200 lbs. Two guys can easily pick it up and carry it. Not a huge commitment for moving - we moved it in an SUV when we bought it. It has a storage section under the bed - handy for tools, packing, etc. And i’ll give you the long skinny galley I found for it! Measurements: Bed size: 10” x 30” Height: 42” Length: 42” Width (Rolling pin handle to handle): 18” Asking $750. Our studio is in the Pioneer Square, more than happy to schedule for folks to come see it. Please e-mail if you’re interested. Thanks!”

Past&Present
Here’s a note from Adam about the presses being delivered back in June:
Our ‘new’ albion press. It belonged to katie Clemson, the well known Australian printmaker and author (complete guide to relief printmaking). This will be delivered in the second week of may so we need to build a good solid concrete floor to put it on…
Two of our new presses have arrived with great thanks to A+M press movers. The Albion was picked up from London and the Rochat etching press was delivered from Penzance in Cornwall. This press belonged to Claire Benson printmaker and has been well looked after, a welcome addition to our studio.
And for now: Christmas Albion from open studios this weekend!
