Anna Molinari, A/W 1995.
Julie Andrews as Gertrude Lawrence in Star! (1968), performing Noël Coward's "Someday I'll Find You" from Private Lives. Directed by Robert Wise, Star! reunited Andrews with her The Sound of Music director in one of the most lavish and ambitious screen musicals of the 1960s. Charting Lawrence's remarkable journey from the British music halls to Broadway superstardom, the film demanded extraordinary range from its leading lady—effortlessly blending urbane sophistication, glittering musical spectacle, and deeply emotional drama. Though the film struggled commercially upon its original release, Andrews' luminous, meticulously observed portrayal was widely praised and earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. Today, Star! has undergone a significant critical reappraisal, with Andrews' performance increasingly recognized as one of the richest, most nuanced, and technically accomplished achievements of her career.
