"I'd save our kids in a heartbeat." Holly might not have understood why it kept happening to them, but John had proven time and time again that he was more than capable of taking care of himself. Hell, he'd fought off literal terrorists and saved his now ex-wife's life on both land and up in the air. Well, it was technically her up in the sky at the time, but that was beside the point.

Truthfully, the question wasn't even a choice, because even if John wasn't capable, their children would always come first, no matter where they were, what was going on, or how old they might have been.

Anna looked at her sharply. "Together?" Her tone took on a hint of something. "Why would David and I go together? That is not happening!" She said, a bit too adamantly. "I don't know what he's planning. I stopped listening." She admitted.

Allison had to swallow back a light bout of laughter as she witnessed Anna's reaction to her previous comment. Truthfully, she couldn't blame her for tuning out, but that just gave Ali more reason to go to the source and find out for herself.

"Maybe I'm just hopeful that the two of you can become friends again now that we're all finally here together in Port Charles." A nonchalant shrug of the shoulders accompined the belief as she continued on. "Besides, I'm pretty sure your usual plus one already has a date of her own this year anyway."

From what Allison could tell, Emma and Gio had become pretty inseparable recently.

"That's just it. I'm not exactly sure what he's up to. He mentioned something about the Nurse's Ball." Anna explained. "I...worry about him, Allison. He came to Port Charles for a new start. But...David is his own worst enemy."

"The Nurses Ball," Allison repeated, wanting to make absolutely sure she'd heard Anna correctly. After all, she certainly made a valid point. David had joined the staff at General Hospital, but just because Allison was there to keep an eye on him, that didn't necessarily mean trouble wouldn't be too far behind.

"Something as in the two of you going together this year, or something as in he might sign up to be one of the performers?" Truthfully, Allison was game for either option. After all, who knew? It might turn out to be exactly what her father needed.

"I'm sure I don't know what you're talking about."

It was a half truth at best, given the fact that it'd been a few days since Allison had truly spoken to her father outside of work. Regardless of the timeframe, the brunette wasn't exactly sure what it was she'd done that had caused so much trouble. Maybe she should've known better when it came to an idea or two, but at the end of the day, the only person who could control David was himself. Just because his daughter was a lot like him in certain ways, that didn't necessarily mean he always listened to what she had to say.

"Why don't you tell me what you think he's up to now, and then maybe we can figure out a way to fix it?" Well, or at least part of it anyway. Maybe. Hopefully.

It'd been literal years since Allison had stolen someone else's baby and attempted to pass the little one off as her own. She'd paid her debt to society and since had her medical license reinstated, yet a handful of people still deemed her unfit to even be in the same room as their child, much less actually watch them for any length of time. Fortunately, Maxie Jones wasn't one of them.

The question caught Allison off guard, causing her to pivot around with an expression of confusion clouding the soft features of her face. Crossing the floor over to where her former step-mother was standing, one glance into her purse was enough for everything to make perfect sense again. Thankfully.

"Bailey Lou was playing restaurant again," the brunette explained with an amused grin. "Don't ask me what part of the restaurant my purse was supposed to be, but she probably doesn't even realize these are missing." She'd get the toys back to the little girl eventually, whether it be via Mac and Felicia or Maxie, Spinelli, and the kids themselves.

How was she supposed to answer a question like that? Of course she still thought about their wedding day. It wasn't often, and the majority of the time it most certainly wasn't on purpose, but it was comforting to remember it truly wasn't all bad. There was once a time when Amanda loved Weston more than anyone else in the entire world and with her whole heart. There was once a time when the two couldn't get enough of each other and couldn't stand to be apart. Those days felt like ancient history to her now, but the memories were there - both in her mind, as well as in pictures.

"I'm not doing this with you right now."

Yes, better to avoid the subject altogether, because that made perfect sense. Then again, Amanda knew Weston well enough to know a single answer wouldn't be enough. He wouldn't be able to stop himself from asking for more until they'd practically gone down a rabbit hole of their past. Not only that, but she could swear she smelled the alcohol on his breath from where she was standing.

"Go home, Weston. You're drunk, and I've already had a long enough day as it is."

“Excuse me. I am almost fifty. I haven’t reached that age yet.” Lucas said with a chuckle, though what Merritt said was with merit, no pun intended. Sure, if they delved deeper into what was being said, Lucas knew that this was very much a no-no. But they were just two adults having fun together, and the brunette knew exactly what she was getting herself into. That, and Lucas would not really beat around the bush with Merritt, or with any women showing interest like what she would do. He knew what he was getting, what he wanted and he rarely beats around the bush for it. He had to laugh again when Merritt playfully smacked his chest, before she nestled herself proper against his chest, eyes gazing up at him.

“Miss Morgan. You’re at my house. I’d sleep on the couch if you like.” Lucas mused lightly. “But that means you’d have to slip out off from me… and something tells me you don’t want that. And I kinda like the idea of you keeping me warm like this…” He added with a wry little grin. “But yes… nothing about you is little…” His hands slipped over the brunette’s body, settling down on her ass as his calloused fingers grabbed her cheeks lightly, slowly rocking Merritt in slow, languid little motions. “Perky, maybe?” He asked, tone again teasing towards the young woman.

"Oh yeah? I'll have to keep that in mind next time you start misbehaving," Merritt purred, teasing tone still out in full force. Lucas could apparently give just as good as he got, though, because his reminder left her frowning in disappointment at the mere thought alone. She most certainly wouldn't enjoy that, and given his next comment, it didn't sound like he would, either. It was the little back and forth banter like they were currently indulging in that kept her so damn attracted to him, despite the obvious age gap. When would a guy closer to her own age ever be able to stimulate her the way Lucas did? Sure, it was possible, yet something told her not highly likely.

"Mmm," Merritt mused, fresh bout of goosebumps forming against soft skin large, skilled hands gripped taut, firm cheeks. The lazy movements were nice, allowing them to continue enjoying one another while not having to expel too much energy in the process. "Perky, definitely," she agreed, smirking at the obvious double meaning. A comfortable silence filled the space between them for about half a minute or so before the brunette decided to speak up once more. It wasn't much, but it was enough. "That feels nice."

"More like somewhere in the middle," Merritt confessed, letting go of her ankle to showcase the nasty purple contusion. She was fairly certain it wasn't broken, given she wasn't falling to the ground in a plethroa of pain each time she attempted to walk on it, but then again, what did she know? Her last name didn't come with a bunch of fancy letters sewn behind it on a colorful scrub top or white lab coat. "Typical, I can walk a pageant stage year after year with no problem, yet as soon as I decide to get back out on the ice again, this happens."

He heard what was being said and Lucas had to chuckle out loud as Merritt proclaimed that she was still ‘new at the whole older men thing’ to put it succinctly. Not that he did not get what she meant by it, but the way she said it was hilariously amusing to hear coming out from the usually well-put young woman. He peered over the paper that he was examining, over to the brunette, and knew that she was spiraling out into a tailspin just to get his attention, even after Lucas very bluntly pointed it out to her.  Her reaction was priceless, as Merritt gasped loudly, dramatically.

She defended herself. A little dramatic, but still. Lucas grinned at her words as Merritt was definitely exhibiting golden retriever energy. Not that he minded, but it was amusing to see nonetheless. She was the woman with the boundless energy and he was a grizzled old veteran in the scene. Not too hard to point out. “First off, what did you mean really with the whole ‘older men thing’?” He teased. “I know you meant that this is your first time with a man who’s old enough to be in a museum.” He pointed out. “Just sounds a little funny to me.”

“And of course I think you being needy and clingy is cute. It’s a first for me, really.” Lucas continued. “I mean… it’s a first time in a long time a girl like you paid plenty of attention to me, so there’s that.” Ever since the divorce, Lucas was fine being the grizzled old wolf in the bar, though he never realized that with just that, he was the magnet for other women. Even men like Rhys and Dylan were quite amazed that Lucas, to put it in modern terms, still got it. “I’m doing invoices. Checking out receipts.” He answered Merritt. “Do you need anything?”

"Hm, I'd say you're more mid life crisis old, not necessarily needs to be put in a museum old," Merritt mused, giving the man in front of her a not so subtle once over as she sat back down on the bar stool. Ugh, he was actually going to make her say it, wasn't he? A part of her had been hoping they could just skip right on over the entire thing. Maybe Lucas might brush it off as just another comment from a naive young woman. Then again, they both knew she was anything but. Once Merritt Morgan made up her mind about something, or someone for that matter, there was little to nothing anyone could do to change it.

"It's nothing, really. I've just never really found myself attracted to a guy who's quite literally old enough to be my father before. I'm still learning how to navigate those uncharted waters, so to speak. I don't know what I'm supposed to do or say."

The thought sounded finished, yet there was more to the final point she could have easily made. Merritt didn't know what she was supposed to do or say that wouldn't remind him of just how truly different they were all the time. Lucas was part of an entirely different generation. How were they supposed to bridge that gap? Hell, did he even want to try?

Confusion clouded soft features upon learning of the lack of attention Lucas had received recently. It didn't make any sense to the brunette whatsoever, yet that might've been due to the simple fact that she was quite obviously a bit biased. Then again, maybe it meant she actually had a shot. That was another conversation for a different time when he wasn't so busy, though.

"I mean, I wouldn't say no to a free drink right about now, but I should probably get out of your hair and let you finish up here. We can talk later."

wasn't the first time patrick had ever been turned down, and definitely wouldn't be the last. didn't mean he was going to run away from their interaction like it was the most awkward situation ever. he was too used to being rejected for that to happen. besides, if he ran away, then he wouldn't have heard her offer to be his wing woman sometime.

"may have to take you up on that. i get the feeling rachel is only ever trying to help me find people she deems to be good enough for me. which usually means nobody."

because she took after their mother in that way, and the last thing he needed was two mothers.

Nose scrunched up somewhat involuntarily at Patrick's admission. If he'd truly been using his own sister as his wing woman, he was in a lot more trouble than she'd originally thought. Audrey didn't necessary know Rachel all that well, but it was probably best for everyone involved if she was officially relieved of her duties much sooner rather than later.

"Why don't you tell me more about your type? That way I can figure out the perfect place for us to hang out tonight. I mean, unless it's just blondes who happen to be the daughter of the chief at the firehouse where your father also works."

It was actually kind of nice that they could simply move on without anything being too awkward. Maybe Audrey had been up a little too far on her high horse mere moments ago, but if she could, she truly wanted to help out a friend, because that's what they were. Well, at least hopefully anyway.

"you're right, i haven't. have you?" tricia questioned, raising her brow in the other girl's direction. "whichever word you think i meant to say, you aren't either of them. you can try to be intimidating all you want, but it just doesn't work." then again, that could just be because tricia considered herself to be more popular than audrey. not necessarily true, but when your mom was a teacher and you could get answers to tests without her finding out, well ... it certainly helped with her popularity status.

"you should work on your facial features if you want to really make people intimidated by you. because the words are only half the battle. if you continue to look like that? well, no offense, but you're not going to get anybody on your side."

"We're not talking about me right now. We're talking about you." Ah, deflecting at its finest. Tricia could run her mouth all she wanted. Audrey didn't believe a single observation, and she'd make sure no one else did either, should she need to. The pair could have stood there and argued back and forth for hours, yet what would it accomplish? Neither of their minds were going to be changed by the other, and the blonde had much more important ways to spend her valuable time.

"Forgive me if I don't heed your expert advice," she scoffed with a roll of the eyes, biting back a light bout of amused laughter. What was that supposed to even mean anyway? "Now, if you'll excuse me, I have somewhere to be and people to see that are much more interesting than the likes of you."

"why don't we hang out tonight? like we used to, you know? order in cheap take-out, watch crappy movies, go for a walk... whatever you want, right?" he's trying to take the sting of weston walking away from them away from his mom, though he has a feeling nothing he suggests is going to help with it at all. // @prettytragcdies

If it was up to Amanda, she'd spend the entire night listening to a list of depressing songs on repeat and drowning her sorrows in yet another bottle of wine, but the more rational side of her knew that Gavin was only trying to help. She didn't want it to sound like she was pushing him away or didn't want to spend time with her only son. Then again, nothing else she'd tried had done the trick as far as distractions went, so what the hell?

"I mean, if you'd rather hang out with your friends tonight, you don't have to worry about me. I'll be fine." Yeah, whatever that word meant. "With that being said, if you really wanted to order a pizza and and veg out to mindless movies with your mother all night, I certainly wouldn't say no."
