Find Dorcas sounded like an easy task. Fabian had grabbed some biscuits and shoved them into his messenger bag. Deciding last minute that the meat surprise wouldn’t make the journey - no way to conserve whatever the mystery was. He had followed his twin dutifully often staying at the same pace so they walked side by side.
He turned away and blinked rapidly to regain his eyesight back from the light. “Bloody hell. Yeah! You see us every single day.” Fabian said in agreement, but instead of going to the table he moved to stand with his arms crossed.
“Why weren’t you at dinner?” The words said exactly the same time as Gideon had inquired, except his tone was slightly different. Fabian assumed it was because Gideon & Dorcas were closer. “What were you thinking? Food is important.” He added.
“If we give you a heart attack hate to think what a butterfly would do.” Fabian chuckled at his own joke and gestured between himself and his brother. “Get it? We’re majestic like butterflies. Here this is so you don’t pass away due to malnutrition.” Whistling slightly he wrestled out the biscuits he had commandeered from the Great hall, and handed them out to her.

Dorcas could have screamed, but she settled for rolling her eyes as Gideon and Fabian moved closer, eyes immediately trailing back to her work as her heart calmed down from its hammering, since there was clearly no threat to her person. Well, there still could be, she had no idea, but she chose to trust that they wouldn’t brutally murder her on school property.
As she pulled her plant closer to her again, she glanced from Gid to Fab, an eyebrow lifting when they spoke in unison, head shaking slightly before she let out a scoff. “I wasn’t at dinner because I was working, and I wasn’t hungry.” A quick glance toward Gideon, and she looked away again, head ducking to hide the way heat crawled up her neck into her cheeks. It had absolutely nothing to do with him, after all.
She just had work to do.
Her eyes trailed to the biscuits for a moment before she waved them off. “I’m fine, Fabian. Thank you, but I’m not hungry. Did you two literally just come out here to check up on me?”
Gideon chuckled, glancing to his twin as they repeated each other in unison. He let his twin take over his half of the conversation, easily taking the back seat in the shadow. Something about butterflies?
Gideon made a face at the joke, not finding it the least bit funny, and not sure he’d gotten it even. Oh Fab-ie, what a nutter.
“Hmm.” he nodded and gave a shrug to her lame excuse, not exactly buying it. He noticed her avoiding her eyes and stared at his hands in his lap. So it was because of that. He felt like disappearing. He was so thankful Fabian was here.
“Course we did, whaddya think?” He shrugged, giving her a half glance. He wished things would return to normal between them. She was his best mate. He also wished he was like Fabian, and could talk and carry on like it was nothing.
“Wanna go pick moon buds in the Forbidden Forest?” he offered. It was a peace offering. He’d always suspected that the glowing flowers made Dorcas happy.
