Study uncovers surprising fact about wildflowers in urban areas: 'No difference … between the meadow types'

Researchers found that small patches of wildflowers can foster the same biodiversity as entire meadows.

A caveat to this study: the researchers were primarily looking at insect pollinator biodiversity. Planting a few native wildflowers in your garden will not suddenly cause unusual megafauna from the surrounding hinterlands to crowd onto your porch.

That being said, this study backs up Douglas Tallamy's optimistic vision of Homegrown National Park, which calls for people in communities of all sizes to dedicate some of their yard (or porch or balcony) to native plants. This creates a patchwork of microhabitats that can support more mobile insect life and other small beings, which is particularly crucial in areas where habitat fragmentation is severe. This patchwork can create migration corridors, at least for smaller, very mobile species, between larger areas of habitat that were previously cut off from each other.

It may not seem like much to have a few pots of native flowers on your tiny little balcony compared to someone who can rewild acres of land, but it makes more of a difference than you may realize. You may just be creating a place where a pollinating insect flying by can get some nectar, or lay her eggs. Moreover, by planting native species you're showing your neighbors these plants can be just as beautiful as non-native ornamentals, and they may follow suit.

In a time when habitat loss is the single biggest cause of species endangerment and extinction, every bit of native habitat restored makes a difference.

It’s been a while since I posted anything here, but...

The sheer audacity of first-world, colonizer nations trying to lecture Argentina and Paraguay on morality and history is wild.

It’s genuinely exhausting to watch global north countries, many of which literally still hold colonies or profit from modern neo-colonialism, spearhead hate campaigns and point fingers at us. No matter how complex our realities are, to the rest of the world, Argentina and Paraguay are still just "third-world" Latin American countries. Countries that are still bleeding from the socio-economic and political consequences of their historical and ongoing interventions.

But what makes it even worse is the blatant rewriting of our history. They love to push this colonial narrative that completely erases our reality. They ignore:

Our diverse communities.

Our Indigenous peoples (pueblos originarios) who have been resisting for centuries.

The actual people on the ground fighting against racism, fascism, and discrimination every single day.

They want to flatten our entire existence into a caricature just to make themselves feel morally superior, completely oblivious to the fact that our struggles are a direct result of the systems they built. You don't get to destroy a house, complain about the rubble, and then ignore the people who are actually trying to rebuild it.

Stop rewriting our history to fit your savior complex.

What if... what if some of the Nursery Rhymes actually relate to characters outside of Alan Wake 2?

Well, y'see, I think Sam Lake and Co. are building a multi-franchise universe wherein all the characters are intimately connected with each other. Some of the Nursery Rhymes don't make sense within the bounds of the story's narrative, unless I'm missing something (very possible, I miss shit all the time). Example:

The only thing I could think of is that this rhyme was discussing Odin caring for Saga or Logan, despite not knowing them, and the person depicted has a cane, which Odin sometimes has in the original concept art. That very well may be the explanation here; after all, the simplest answer is often truth.

But THEN. I remembered that Remedy does no such thing as simple answers, even with painfully obvious nursery rhymes.

I thought about the line "The old man who could not see." Odin is a seer, right? His whole thing is seeing; he may only have one eye, but it's the all-seeing eye. He also does not have a cane in-game, despite the concept art. The cane, then, must be a guidance cane. Who else would be caring for Saga/Logan? Nobody that was described as blind. Can't be Tör or Door, because they both definitely have kids, and are definitely not blind.

And I thought about it some more...

I decided this nursery rhyme was either A.) Describing something that will be revealed in the Future, B.) Not talking about Saga or Logan, or C.) Both of the above.

Before this, I had already decided that Saga and Logan aren't the deer at all, due to all the evidence listed somewhere on my blog plus some Jungian bullshit (long story short: the deer/stag is used to symbolize masculinity and duality, specifically light and dark—one antler representing each "branch").

So, I thought, okay. Who is—or was—in need of guidance and care, who is younger, who is a deer (or could be a deer), and who is blind and childless?

My brain connected things that should not be connected, so I shan't say... except they're already connected.

OR.

It could be that I'm just overthinking everything again.

I have my own theories that are absolutely batshit and I hate them. But I'll let you all chill on that.
