Dorcas could have screamed, but she settled for rolling her eyes as Gideon and Fabian moved closer, eyes immediately trailing back to her work as her heart calmed down from its hammering, since there was clearly no threat to her person. Well, there still could be, she had no idea, but she chose to trust that they wouldnât brutally murder her on school property.
As she pulled her plant closer to her again, she glanced from Gid to Fab, an eyebrow lifting when they spoke in unison, head shaking slightly before she let out a scoff. âI wasnât at dinner because I was working, and I wasnât hungry.â A quick glance toward Gideon, and she looked away again, head ducking to hide the way heat crawled up her neck into her cheeks. It had absolutely nothing to do with him, after all.
She just had work to do.
Her eyes trailed to the biscuits for a moment before she waved them off. âIâm fine, Fabian. Thank you, but Iâm not hungry. Did you two literally just come out here to check up on me?âÂ
Gideon chuckled, glancing to his twin as they repeated each other in unison. He let his twin take over his half of the conversation, easily taking the back seat in the shadow. Something about butterflies?Â
Gideon made a face at the joke, not finding it the least bit funny, and not sure heâd gotten it even. Oh Fab-ie, what a nutter.Â
âHmm.â he nodded and gave a shrug to her lame excuse, not exactly buying it. He noticed her avoiding her eyes and stared at his hands in his lap. So it was because of that. He felt like disappearing. He was so thankful Fabian was here.Â
âCourse we did, whaddya think?â He shrugged, giving her a half glance. He wished things would return to normal between them. She was his best mate. He also wished he was like Fabian, and could talk and carry on like it was nothing.
âWanna go pick moon buds in the Forbidden Forest?â he offered. It was a peace offering. Heâd always suspected that the glowing flowers made Dorcas happy.

Fabian watched between his twin and Dorcas. Something was going on there that he didnât quite understand, but maybe they would enlighten him. Or perhaps he could read the underlining signs that existed. âOi, arenât you two usually together?â He commented dead stare locking on his twin and his fake betrothed. To the point just as he always was. âDonât you two work together?â He asked as a followup question already knowing the answer. âHmmmâ He spoke finally in unison with his twin again.
âWhy wouldnât we?â He followed up Gideonâs question and frowned when she wouldnât take the biscuit. âOh just a bite, please? I donât want your stomach waking up Peeves in the morning because you didnât eat.â Â Fabian arched a brow looking back over to Gideon with a whistle, âI do love moon buds.â He admitted.
