I wish some folks on twitter would stop talking about Monse being so annoying for pushing Cesar away cause “he is hot.” 🤨
I like their story of young love but it is not an easy story because their lives are not simple. (search ‘cesar monse’ on twitter and you will see the posts)
Cesar is in a gang that is slowly giving him more responsibilities. Monse has serious abandonment issues that make her petrified to lose her family of friends so she makes decisions that hurt herself and sometimes others. That those things are being reduced to Monse being annoying cause Cesar is fine & just wants to love her is baffling.🤔 One of the things I adore about OMB is that it gives the core 4 squad layers and the characters aren’t just stereotypes or shallow.
I admit when I watched the show the first time that Monse’s behavior could be frustrating but I also didn’t forget why she would make those choices (even tho one instance I just really wanted to shake some sense in to her over her Cesar x Olivia hard pushing 😣). Dismissing what drives Monse’s decisions to hold off publicly admitting her own feelings then sacrificing her true desire when she thinks admitting it will destroy her fam regardless of Cesar’s own declarations of how he feels about her is truly missing Monse’s character & making her just about her love interest’s looks. That Cesar is hot does not and should not erase Monse’s feelings and long-term abandonment issues.
Anywho, I hope there is a S2 for several reasons but one reason for sure is cause I want to see Monse deal with her fear of abandonment issues and try to work on getting to a healthy place in spite of them. That means the show needs to bring her mother back and deal with why she abandoned her eldest child like she did.
