Backpacking eastern europe. Karosta Prison, Liepaja, Latvia.
On our way back home, to Tallinn, we stayed one night in Liepaja, Latvia. Because we like old things, like old industrial houses and prisons etc, we decided to spend the night in the old military prison. We were the only people there during the night and we were not as cool as we thought we were. During the day, it looked very peaceful, but at night time, it was a scary place.

Backpacking eastern europe. Klaipeda, Lithuania. 2014-06-12.
After spending one night waiting/walking/sleeping outside a bus station in Budapest, because we thought it could be great to save money (now I'm just glad we survived...) and then 25 hours sitting on a bus from Budapest through Austria, Slovakia and Poland, we arrived in Klaipeda, Lithuania. Almost home. We stayed one night just to chill, before we were going back to Latvia, and then our final destination HOME.

Beautiful old cars, dirty streets and old houses.

Shoes on the Danube Bank - a memorial to honor the jews which were ordered to take of their shoes and then got shot into the river during World War II.
And the Hungarian Parliament. Amazing building.

Budapest is beautiful. I love their old white/yellow trams (well I love trams like a child likes sugar). I love Budapest light. It has a great light. Like you're sometimes in an old movie. I like that the city is pretty and shitty at the same time. What I did not like is that during the four days we stayed there, it was almost 40 degres and to hot to breathe. To hot to drink beer in the shadow. First day we just went walking to a great park, were we sat down in the gras with some freshly made langos and we just sat there for a few hours waiting for the sun to go away (it did not). Actually I have to go back to Budapest soon again because the only thing we did was sitting in the shadows, eating hummus and went vintage shopping. Because it was impossible to do to much in the heat.

A beautiful door in Budapest.
Backpacking eastern europe, Bran Castle, Bran, Romania. 2014-06-06.
Well, we did go to Bran Castle - or should I say Draculas castle, although he never lived there. It was nice to see it from a distance. But the surroundings were horrible with to much tourism tingeling shit. Well, I should have know that, but at least I can check it of my bucket list now. The good thing was the car ride there and back. So beautiful. I have to visit Transylvania again.
Backpacking eastern europe, Brasov train station, Romania. 2014-06-06.
I love travel by train. And I love train stations. There's something special about it. The freedom that you can go somewhere else. And the feeling you get when you arrive to a city by train. The moment you get off the train. The people and the bustling atmosphere. The life that's going on around you. It's really not the same with airports. I hate airports.Â
This day we changed all our plans and decided to leave Romania and we bought tickets for the night train to Budapest.Â

Backpacking eastern europe, Busteni, Romania. 2014-06-06.
We ended up in Busteni on our way to Bran Castle ("Dracula's" castle). We did not know where we were until we asked someone. It's a long story. But we hade to spend two hours in this small town in the middle of Transylvania. We were not happy. After walking the same streets over and over again, because there where not much to do, we decided to smile and think that we some day would laugh about that day we ended up in Busteni. After all, it was quite beautiful. Oh my cat, we were in Transylvania, how could we be angry about that? Anyway, we found a small café with quite bad, but cheap, coffee and like the coffee-addict I am, I was happy.

Brasov is a beautiful city, really. But. It's way to much tourist for my taste. We ended up in quite a bad hostel also, were people were toooo much. But they had a nice cat - Judy- so we were quite pleased anyway. Klara had a irritating cold when we arrived in Brasov, and I had one coming. Plus pms. So no, maybe it was not Brasovs fault that we did not really like it. We were just a bit grumpy and cold.
Backpacking eastern europe. Bucharest, Romania. 2014-06-03.
Some pics from Bucharest. The bar/café with the umbrellas as roof was one of the cosiest places ever. An arty place hidden in a backyard with lots of colorful umbrellas, nice people and a great the-selection.
