The first piece from Pride's new range for mid-teens: Saint Aquinas Scholastic Maillot. All our teen costumes are full-featured, premium quality pieces - just smaller. Our only other measure to control cost, is to disallow bespoke fitting with these, which anyway, teens do not need. At the risk of boasting, each piece is unique and inspired, especially those with "scholastic" in the names. They are the "school uniform" swimsuits of fanciful academies, each one surviving from ancient times. Moments of serene beauty make all the banal ones worthwhile. However, they don't usually just happen. We have to consciously insert them into our lives. Let's say you have done that, and have worked something like a wild swim, or bush walk, or similar moment of sublime solitude into each day. Then what? I am reminded of something the architect Glenn Murcutt told me, when I worked with him on a project in 2001, that really made an impression. He said we spend most of our lives doing ordinary things, so should aim to perform each them extraordinarily well. For him, that meant edifying floor plans and ergonomic opening windows and the likes. For me, that means irreducible but functional and durable swimwear, and of course keeping my small sewing factory in order. A prototype of this one is whiling its way to the US and @vintage_egyptologist, who wanted something to accompany a 1960s vintage dress. It has a lower hipster cut than my other La Piscine offerings, so pushes the 60s/70s vibe all the way. For the memorable photo, I can thank model @Tanayah and those vicious westerly winds you may recall from last Friday. We both finished with a beach load of sand to wash from our hair, but looking at the photos, it was worth it.
