Lessons from Night Vale

I loved the last two episodes of WTNV. The live audience really gave the podcast life. I did not think there was that many followers of the podcast because of its odd content. These podcasts disproved my assumption. I loved Cecil’s announcement of his revolution and the reaction from the crowd. I was more engaged in the two episodes because of the live audience. I also like the variety of different characters and voices that the last two episodes provide, such as Hiram, the Faceless Old Woman, Strex Corp representatives, Carlos, Tamika, and advertisements. The podcasts help us answer the many questions that we had in past episodes, such as what are the motives of Srex Corp and what they are going to do for Night Vale, where Dana is and what she feels, and where Carlos is and what his findings were. I have noticed that the main theme of these episodes is how big corporations (Strex Corp) and political leaders (Hiram and the Faceless Old Woman) take control of their citizens and their freedoms. WTNV is definitely helped my listening skills and perfectly represents the idea of existentialism.

I agreed with you that having a crowd really did gave the podcast life but I feel is more affective to listen to the podcast without an audience.

Lessons from WTNV

The podcast were good but not the best ones in my opinion. I didn't like the fact that it was live with a big crowd because it was harder for me to follow along. Also since the podcast was live, we couldn't see some of the expressions the characters made. Overall WTNV was a great podcast I definitely enjoyed listening to it for homework. All are questions about Carlos and Dana were answered which gives me a satisfaction about finishing the podcast.

Post Anything

I really do enjoy this class. I learned a lot from it especially on how to cite sources. I feel that I have become a stronger writer through the several papers we had to write. I think the podcast and the book were really entertaining and useful to learn about existentialism. Both pieces of work made me think about the topic and really did helped to write paper for. I found the topic of existentialism more interesting because it gives a bigger view on how to look at the world. Overall, this class was really helpful and hope to learn even more for the rest of the time we have left in this class.

Sartre

Sartre seems to go circles and circles with the idea of existence.  Honestly, his questioning of reality and existence was really annoying.  “why do we exist?”, “why does this world exist?”.  Sartre confuses himself and is overwhelmed by the idea of existence, which I think can be inferred as his “nausea”.  He even states that he would kill himself to “wipe out at least one superfluous life”.  Questioning the existence of life itself will lead to madness and will lead to the downfall of humanity, as seen through Sartre.

Yeah, I too saw he kept running in logic circles, which was why the reading was so confusing for me. But then again, he is going insane, so maybe that’s why he’s hard to follow.

I kind of got the point when reading at first but i think the narrator repeats the main idea too many times, that’s why i found it annoying too.

Sartre reading

The reading was pretty interesting because it made me think a lot. I like the idea that everything the author was talking about was questioned which is one main point when talking about existentialism. The narrator talks about the things we feel, see, and hear without explaining why, but the only thing we can all conclude is that they are there and they exist like the ocean, or the words we speak, we just know how things are.

I chose this song because it has really good lyrics and it also contains a really good beat. every time i hear this song it puts me a  good for some reason.

HHG Ending

Overall, HHG was a good book. I enjoyed reading it because it always had a surprise on each chapter I read. For me, the ending was not fulfilling because I think more can happen in the story even though all the questions we had were answered. The book definitely shows potential to keep the story going at the end. The ending was ok, but it could of had been better by having a concrete conclusion.

WTNV ep.30 response

On this episode we get know that Dana is a very significant character in the podcast since she has been mention multiple times through the bigger plot. It seems that Cecil has the appreciation for Dana as he does for Carlos since he would love to hear from her again.

Question: what is the significance of Dana in the plot of the story and why is she very mysterious?

Compare/Contrast

For my paper 4 elements, the first thing that came to my head was the Glow Cloud from WTNV and yellow or the destruction of earth from HHG. I think both of them have a similar idea about “moving on”. They both some how cause to destruction and all is left is the memory of it. Overall they both have a similar message about life.

Summer Reading Program

In my senior year of high school, I read a book called brave new world. The book was about how 7 leaders controlled the world and the world was separated into different classes called alpha, gammas , etc. Science was a big factor in the story because the way people were made was through test tubes and other advance technologies. Before the babies were even born, scientist decided which babies were going to be in the top class and which babies weren’t. Also, in the book people lived a life were morals were not important and that mutual love for one another did not existed. I found this book very powerful because it questions whether or not there is a God and how scary how the power of sciences and technologies are able to do such things.

HHG Ch. 26-30

I found it funny when Deep Thought came up with the answer to life and everything was 42. It took Deep Thought seven and a half million years to come up with the answer. Loonquawl and Phouchg were disappointed with the answer.

What do you think 42 stands for, if anything? Or is it just a random answer that Deep Thought had to give since maybe there is no real answer to life?

At first, I also thought it was so random, it was almost funny to me. I mean the only thing I can think of that may be significant to the number 42, is former MLB player Jackie Robinson. His story is pretty intense. But other that, I think it may be a random number..

I read somewhere a while ago about the 42 in relation to the HHG, and one of the things about it I remember reading is that the actual question or some of the characters in it make up 42 characters. I don’t remember for sure but I definetly remember reading something along those lines.

Week 7 HHG

42? I’m glad we found the answer after a crazy wild trip the protagonist had to go through. It is very significant since the point of reading is to know the message of the story.

Big Question

Is there a correct path one must take in order to live life? Can you take a different approach to life and still be view as someone "normal"? What's the right way to live life? We force ourselves to grow as individuals and sometimes we might not be happy with what we do in order to make that growth to happen, but we still do it because they tell us that's how things are meant to be. Is the path that makes you happy the right one to live a life? Or the one you have to work hard and accomplish great things but feel not so happy?

WTNV Reflection

This week podcast really caught my attention. I like how the podcast brought up issues between different social classes. For example, I like how they talk about  only one rich person can use the second branch of the library. This demonstrates how in our society the rich people get the best education and some times they take it for granted. I also like how the podcast makes fun of dating and they bring up topics that may not seem funny when we do it. Overall was a great podcast and hopefully I get to hear more podcast like this one.

Explain a Concept

How effectively does Lyu integrate information from sources to support her explanation?

On Lyu’s essay, the author’s purpose is to explain the concept of infant attachment. Lyu used a variety of sources that she got from her Psychology course she had before. When Lyu starting incorporating her sources, she before wrote a question that allowed her to introduce the names of the sources. This will give more credibility to her essay when writing and she wont have to mention the sources anymore. Also, she used very smooth transition words that made the essay have a good flow and easy to read. Overall, the way Lyu integrated her information is very effective because it didn’t interfere with the meaning of what she was explaining.
