so long and thanks for all the fish

overall i think the class was one of the best english classes i have ever been a part of. In the beginning i was skeptical of the podcast and how it would relate to the class and the themes it would bring up. After listening  to each episode week after week i saw how each related  I also enjoy how the book also involved the same themes as the podcast and how they seemed to intertwined with each other. The class theme of existentialism  was also very relvent i thought. IN todays english classes were not given to much room for creativity and i never felt like this during our class. I felt like i could explore every idea i had and just had to make sure it was well written and made sense. The class i would recommend to anybody with such a fantastic teacher that was helpful every time i had a problem or couldn't fix a problem all by myself.   I also enjoyed how open to discussion the class was. we seemed to see things in new ways and really inspired new ways of thinking. Each of my classmates seemed to bring something new to the table and in ways i would have not been able to see myself. EAch paper was a new experience and challenged me, to be better than good enough. At the beggining of the quarter i never thought my writing would improve by so much. i always considered myself a weak writer and loathed to write any paper. but now i find that i enjoyed this class the most out of the 4 i took . so, so long and thanks for all the fish.

Overall, I think the NV podcast was strange yet entertaining. When I heard the first episode, I couldn’t comprehend anything that was happening. It all seemed random and unintelligible, but as I got farther into it, I found the intro was a confusing mess but necessary in setting up the rest of the story. The final episodes pulled at my heart strings a little bit, but were good. Out of all the episodes we watched in class, I think that “First Date” was my favorite. This is because everything went as a stereotypical date should go. The food they ordered was in small portions and they dressed up all fancy for it.

I really enjoyed WTNV. The beginning was quite confusing but it was interesting. I liked the character development of cecil and carlos along with the other smaller characters like Dana. The creativity of the show really drew me in and the last couple of live episodes were really cool, and gave lots of insight into who carlos really was. 

Over the summer I read the maze runner series and found value in the friendships and bonds within each book. The series begins within a maze in which a group of teens are forced to work together to escape. I learned a lot of lessons about persistence, as the group was trapped for over two years. I also learned that the journey is never over. The group finds their way out but their are many other obstacles that await them. Overall this series opened my eyes to new ways of communication, passion, and sacrifice. 

I find it crazy that the answer to the universe can even be conceptualized. It is also awesome how it is like a mardi gras and New York City new years celebration packed into one.

My question: Is there a possible meaning to the universe and will we ever see one conceived?

 My question is: are there any possible planets that resemble or could possibly resemble magrathea? Is there a planet that humans could immigrate to and start a new life? Will there ever be one? I guess this leads to the ultimate question, is there life outside of earth?

I really enjoyed this class for all of the cooks and craziness. The hitchhikers guide was an amazing book that took me on a ride through the galaxy and night vale introduced me to a new medium as well as a great storyline. I very much enjoyed how open and honest our class was with tumblr posts and during class discussions. The lack of structure for class discussions is what made them great because I felt like I could say anything. I learned from this quarter that I shouldn’t procrastinate as much as I do and should get to my work much quicker. Its funny because even things like the answer to the universe from the hitchhiker’s guide made me ponder the existence of the universe and everything. I really appreciated that this wasn’t just an English class with boring English lectures, but also a learning experience for everyone, even Ms. B. I have definitely found my passion for pleasure reading again while being in this class. Since the start of the quarter I have finished two books and am on my third. I feel like the contrast between night vale and the hitchiker’s guide was in between night and day and carbon copies. These series had many similarities like the mystery of what was really going on and politics but they were so different in reality. Night vale was a ride through a town that didn’t really exist while the hitchhiker’s guide was a trip through the entire galaxy that encompassed the universe and the answers to everything. In the end, this class was a learning experience that taught me a lot about myself and about my habits as a person. I feel that I have become a better more consistent writer since the beginning and wish I had Ms B again next quarter.

Lessons from NightVale

The concept of Night Vale was really interesting, but the podcasts were really hard for me to understand.  I would try to listen to them, but I would dose off or not pay attention.  Reading the transcripts were much easier for me.  I am better at reading or listening to a person live.  Audiobooks aren’t my type of thing.  The last podcast was really interesting, but I don’t see myself continuing to listen to the podcasts.

Lessons from Wtnv

Honestly listening to podcasts was something new for me yet so cool. The story itself of Night Vale really intrigued me as did all the characters. The plot of the story took many turns and twists but overall I enjoyed listening to it because it allowed me to have an open imagination and create my own interpretation of the characters and setting.

Lessons from WTNV

The podcast were good but not the best ones in my opinion. I didn't like the fact that it was live with a big crowd because it was harder for me to follow along. Also since the podcast was live, we couldn't see some of the expressions the characters made. Overall WTNV was a great podcast I definitely enjoyed listening to it for homework. All are questions about Carlos and Dana were answered which gives me a satisfaction about finishing the podcast.

Lessons from Night Vale

I think the ending of Night Vale had some interesting elements. Carlos, after solving the mystery of the Oak Doors, is now stranded in the desert, but says that'll he always be fine because he's a scientist. What he figured out was that in order for the doors to close, everyone had to be on their own side of the doors, which I found symbolic for different countries waging war, or the inner conflicting thoughts of our minds. When the new mayor was declared, it was Dana, somebody who wasn't even running, but more interesting to me was that Cecil and Tamika had pretty much disregarded her as unimportant and nothing, which interested me. I loved listening to and discussing this podcast. My favorite episode was, "Yellow Helicopters".

Definetly one of my favorite podcasts. Everything tied in nicely & I loved that we got answers, actual concrete answers/ending unlike HHG. Having the radioshow live with the audience reacting in the background made the show more real.

Lessons from Night Vale

I loved the last two episodes of WTNV. The live audience really gave the podcast life. I did not think there was that many followers of the podcast because of its odd content. These podcasts disproved my assumption. I loved Cecil’s announcement of his revolution and the reaction from the crowd. I was more engaged in the two episodes because of the live audience. I also like the variety of different characters and voices that the last two episodes provide, such as Hiram, the Faceless Old Woman, Strex Corp representatives, Carlos, Tamika, and advertisements. The podcasts help us answer the many questions that we had in past episodes, such as what are the motives of Srex Corp and what they are going to do for Night Vale, where Dana is and what she feels, and where Carlos is and what his findings were. I have noticed that the main theme of these episodes is how big corporations (Strex Corp) and political leaders (Hiram and the Faceless Old Woman) take control of their citizens and their freedoms. WTNV is definitely helped my listening skills and perfectly represents the idea of existentialism.
