Self-Preservation (drawntonightmares)
She yelped softly and backed away from the darkness that seemed to have a life on its own, moving and twisting, curling around her being and letting go, she bit her lip and quickly stood up, looking around. Maybe she overdid it with her powers? Maybe this version wasn’t something to kid or downtalk?
As if that worked at any time..
She sighed, looking away. “I’m sorry for my disrespect…I will cease to act like a moron and I thank you for your help…even though I do not deserve it, as it seems” she frowned lightly. “I don’t understand still why you chose me though. I’m not really … remarkably odd, nor special…” she looked down onto herself. “…You could have chosen any prey, the town is big enough to find a victim. So why me?”
The shadows began to fade slowly, the lights of the city beginning to pierce through the goom. Pitch relaxed. He considered her for a moment before finally smiling. “Quite simple, really. Your father and I don’t particularly care for each other. So how better to toy with him than show his daughter a way out of his clutches?”
With a huff, she began to chuckle and shook her head "Well, that is indeed an easy explanation. Enough for me anyway" she smirked and tilted her head. What he was doing there before though, before he knew she was the daughter of ther Erlking was still a bit of a miracle, but why not enjoy that mystery why it lasts? "Well, Nightmare King, I’m curious to how you will bring me away from him? He is not a mere fae, bound to anywhere, he can travel through land, water, mist and ice…how can you outrun someone who practically is the wind on your skin? He is from another universe, entirely more powerful than the sorry excuse he replaced…" she frowned lightly. "Really…I am curious how I could even manage that"
Pitch grinned. "My dear, there are many places in this world where one needs to be invited to enter. And he certainly isn't invited to any of them. Take your pick...the Unseelie Court, the Market...even my own little patch of shadows is a place he cannot tread."
