Her eyes were wide as saucers as she watched him cradle the star in his palm. Uncomfortable she shifted, her frilly dress was slowly floating around her, her small hands rubbing her bare arms, as if she was cold, but she didn’t feel the frost of the universe on her skin, but instead fear gnawing at her. The uncertanty of what he will do that star, the silence that stretched….It made her twitch as well. Even if she looked at him kind of like a parental figure, she still fret over his eating habit, having not yet eaten herself, not wanting and not yet needing to…“…I d-don’t want to consume it…” she murmured as she took back the small star that pulsed like a little heartbeat. “…I’ll watch it…I want to see it grow…” she smiled a little, holding it to her chest, hugging the small celestial body to her own heart, that beat along with the small thing. Her pale eyes glowed in the eternal darkness of the night as she looked up, smiling lightly. “…I…don’t need to eat, to consume. I’m…okay like this” she said softly.
He could smell the fear on her, tantalising savoury-bitter depth of flavour dancing in the air around her - unnatural for a small singularity, but she was far from normal. She’d have to learn out of it, but that would come with time. Even afraid, very few things would pose a threat to her.
That reluctance to feed was something to keep an eye on, however. Whether the little one would experience Hunger as natural-born black holes did remained to be seen, but if she did, it wouldn’t be pleasant for her first feeding to be under its influence.
“You will, eventually. For now, it’s alright not to.” He’d have to start her slowly, on mindless things and second-hand starlight, but for now, the lesson that singularities carried the fates of the living was more important.
