The English lord was surprised to find Poppy at his side putting himself as a barrier between him and Freddie. He was thankful and decided against scolding him for being out of bed already.

There was no need to punish him, the look on the prince’s face was enough, he was hungover to hell and back and probably had a mouth like a desert, it would be truly cruel of Dorian to prolong the other’s misery further with any sort of reprimands.

Freddie flinched at the sound of Poppy’s obvious displeasure in his voice, he put on a sickly sweet smile opening his arms to his boyfriend, hoping to somehow coax him into forgiveness.

“Sweetheart, you look tired, shall we head up to bed?” He asks, Dorian pulls away from Poppy distancing himself from both men now, wishing dearly that he had not made the journey to the palace.

“Shall I head off so you two can.. whatever… urgh. I’m going home.” With that he grabbed his jacket and made to move for the door.

“No, we won’t be heading up to bed. We won’t be going anywhere.” Again that snap was more than evident in his tone, and not about to let up any time soon. Nor was the glare he’d aimed at the man. When Dorian had moved to leave however, the Prince found himself quite suddenly dropping any further comments for the sake of cutting this short before the other could leave,

“Dorian darling, come back here--” A few quick steps as features softened for an instant that he regretted just about instantly by the pounding spin of his head at the motion, though he only stopped once his hand had taken the Earl’s wrist, drawing him in to his side once more, before his glare returned to Freddie’s direction, the momentary softening of his expression leaving as quickly as it had come, “You are going home sweetheart, and don’t you dare show your face near me again. Do not make me call my guards.”

With that, and with Dorian still held just a touch too tightly against himself, Poppy had flung the door open, a single hand raising in a steady and silent point as he waited for Freddie to make his leave.

Changed some of his features, made his lips thinner and changed the shape of his nose. (Made his lashes shorter. I will never ever be happy with his hair but until I can do/make my own I will have to deal with it!)

I don’t want to make him too close to the manga style because I doubt it would translate well.

Once he was happy that Poppy was in bed and would not be getting up any time soon, he said his whispered farewells and headed down to the library too read the daily newspapers the palace had delivered.

He was midway through the financial times when the door opened and in steps Freddie, the seemingly estranged other half of Poppy’s.

“Ah, if it isn’t young Dorian, what is a fine young specimen like yourself doing cooped up in a library?” Freddie asks, his voice smooth and cool, unaffected by the summer heat outside it seemed.

Dorian blanched at his words unable to hide a grimace as he closed the newspaper, getting to his feet he waved a hand gesturing to the array of tabloids and journals.

“Just light reading, but I shall take my leave now.” Before he even took a step towards the door it was blocked by Freddie who now wore a slimy grin on his thin lips.

“Oh, but I was kind of hoping we could chat?”

“I would rather go and enjoy the summer sun.”

“Can I join you?”

“I… am afraid I’d be rather terribly company, I don’t oft make conversation with those I do not know so very well, like yourself, sir.”

“Oh but we don’t need to talk…”

Dorian suppresses a disgusted shudder.

Poppy at least managed a couple of hours of sleep before he woke, though it certainly wasn’t two yet. Unfortunately for the Prince however, it was the type of waking in which one finds themselves very suddenly alert-- mind and eyes alike. Another unfortunate part of this, was that his body already was showing a revenge sequence to be set in play for drinking so heavily through the night; his head threatening to implode as he moved was more than enough evidence of that.

With a small groan as he stood, he’d quickly swallowed a full glass of water in a single raise of the glass left behind, before pouring himself a second to carry with him after removing now hideously smudged makeup. With a glance at the clock, the Prince had decided he could allow himself to find Dorian. He was certain the other would understand why he was up already if he was given a chance to explain it. A presence that he didn’t expect to find upon entering the library however, was Freddie. Much less so close to Dorian.

For a few moments, his steadily growing hangover was forgotten as a heavy frown formed against features. Without actually thinking, he had made a quick approach to slip an arm around Dorian’s waist, drawing his friend away from his soon-to-be ex. The lack of thought was obvious by the choice of who he had pulled away from whom.

“I do hope you have an explanation for me Freddie.” He stated with a poorly hidden snap.

“Oh, Jesus, Poppy!” Dorian turned quickly so as not to see the full extent of the Prince’s nudity, when he turned back the Prince was, thankfully, covered by a robe.

“I came to make sure you were getting into bed but I see you struggle to do even that at the moment.” With a huff he pulls back the bed sheets and nudges Poppy with his hip to get him moving.

“In to bed, I don’t care if you think I am being motherly, fatherly or just plain bossy, get your buttocks in to bed and rest. We can talk about your issues when you wake up. One of your serving girls is bringing water and food for you so when you wake you can perk yourself up.” He wasn’t usually one to take control, Dorian was funny and silly most of the time, submissive and happy to be led when he was not trouncing around the continent as Eroica.

“I will be in the library when you wake, likely, or perhaps in the gardens. Please do not get up until at least 2pm. You need enough sleep to function like a real human for a short while. We have a lot to talk about it seems…”

“I was just getting changed.” Poppy retorted with a faint frown, though the nudge had him stumbling toward the edge of the bed. With a light sigh, he gave in to the demands of the other as with one last half-disapproving glance he’d climbed into bed, drawing up the covers once comfortable.

“I didn’t even take off my makeup yet-- If it doesn’t come out then you’re buying new sheets.” It was truly rather difficult to sound as though he was actually bothered by this, though he had to at least make an attempt at it. The further Dorian went into his orders however, the more his look of disapproval had turned toward a small smile, giving a single nod once Dorian had finished, hands fumbling with a few hairpins to at the very least remove his wig, setting it aside on the night stand before he spoke again.

“You really won’t stay here while I sleep, darling?” A last ditch attempt, though by now he’d already given in to receiving an answer, meaning that there was little time left for the other to actually reply, “I’ll see you when I’m up. And stop worrying yourself so terribly; I’ll be just fine.”

With a roll of his eyes, Dorian moved in to pull Poppy into a tighter, longer hug.

Moving back he sighs and points to the stairs silently ordering the prince to head up to his room, as he watches the prince retreat he catches an errant servant passing by and orders her to take a jug of water and a glass up to the prince.

“And for heavens sake make sure he eats and sleeps and don’t let him out of bed until he has rested himself properly!” If he wasn’t careful the staff of this palace would believe he lived here, belonged here… was meant to be here as head of the house.

He was not the rightful heir to the throne.

Dorian was merely a lord that the Poppycock family had taken an extreme liking to.

Without a word the servant nodding and hurried out to obey Dorian’s orders.

Shaking his head he follows Poppy up to his room, he’d not intended to but he wanted to make sure the other man did indeed get into bed and was comfortable enough.

“I t o l d you Amanda, I can get changed on my ow--” A brief pause when eyes had fallen on Dorian, rather than his maid returning to pester him yet again. He’d held himself together quite nicely in front of his friend, so he’d believed, careful not to slur even if it had been obvious by the slowness of his words, but now-- Well. Grace begone.

A small huff as he pulled a night robe to himself, drawing it around his shoulders, tugging it closed at the waist, “You could at least knock, precious.” He corrected quickly, though he didn’t truly sound as though he was complaining. Of course he wasn’t.

This was Dorian, the one that could get away with anything.

“Did you change your mind darling? Or did you forget something perhaps?”

“If you’re not going to listen to me I am just going to go home and let you drink yourself into a stupor, I am sure your house staff can take care of you better than I ever could!” Maybe he was being too hard on Poppy, but he had not come to have drunken conversation with him.

They had not seen each other for 2 months and this is how he is greeted?

Poppy and his father often bickered about the prince’s appearance but not once had it escalated to anything that required strong alcohol to ease tension.

There must have been more, but Dorian was not going to wait around for his friend to sober up, however much it hurt to see him this way, it was very hard to cooperate with him in this state.

A small sigh of half-hearted frustration before he moved to the window, pouring his glass out onto the grass below before he moved toward his friend, “There-- Now please don’t look at me like that darling, I much prefer to see you smiling.” Poppy gave a slight sigh before he’d moved in to take a stumbled, but still gentle hug from the other, though it lasted for only a few moments before he was drawing back.

He supposed he’d probably have to do as he was told and head off to bed before he was able to actually have Dorian smiling again, or at least not look so angry with him.

“Shall I assume that any hugs further than this one are out of the question for the time being?” A touch more of a pout graced his lips here-- He doubted it would work, but he was rather hoping it might sway the other. He even added puppy eyes for good measure.

“You are…-” With a light growl he cut himself off before he said anything that may offend the drunk prince before him still holding a cocktail laced with copious amounts of vodka.

“Go to bed.”

“I did already give you my offer for an alternative to my drink, unless you’ve forgotten darling.” He replied with a small smirk added in to his pout, raising his glass to take just the smallest of sips-- Of course if it was Dorian telling him not to drink, he wouldn’t be able to deny him for much longer.

“I’ll go to bed if I can have those cuddles I requested.~”

“You really know how to make me feel ridiculous, as though I am a no good friend. You told me you were besotted with him last we spoke!”

“Oh my, did I?? Well, I suppose I may have meant with his appearance perhaps? Or I was drunk.”

“I assumed things were serious between the two of you, am I to assume that I am wrong about this?”

“Did I give such an impression? I’m afraid you’re mistaken darling-- He is very sweet, but there’s nothing serious between us.”

“Did you fight over something silly, I don’t want you to bottle any of this up, and I certainly do not wish you to be drinking so early in the day. Where is that boyfriend of yours anyway, shouldn’t he be here to comfort you?”

“It wasn’t silly. He decided to distract my questions of where he’d been with comments that my choice of appearance hasn’t changed while he was away- likely sleeping with some man or another again. And as for my boyfriend, I haven’t the faintest where he is-- I haven’t called.”

“Poppy, what’s happened, you don’t usually argue with him or am I missing something here?”

“Usually he isn’t even around. If you don’t want me drinking through darling, I’d be happy to replace vodka with cuddles.”

“What’s wrong, you’ve fallen out with him, have you?”

“Nothing a few drinks won’t help me to forget about, darling. That, or perhaps...”

“This is no time to be in a playing mood… you’re up all night and drinking at 9am. Is something going on?”

“Someone has to care about you, but if you’re taking this tone, perhaps I won’t bother in the future.”
