I saw a post about how people on tumblr are always asking for well written abuse victims and yet they label Snape as problematic and refuse to acknowledge that the abuse he suffered influenced who he became later in life and it made me realize that tumblr only wants one kind of abuse victim. They want ones that are only cruel to themselves, and turn inward towards self destruction when they are sad or angry. They want ones that are kind and help everyone except themselves because they believe that everyone deserves help except themselves. They want the ones that love openly but see themselves as unworthy of love. Show them an abuse victim that is cold and who lashes out in their pain instead, and they deem them problematic. While the first type of abuse victim does exist, they are not common because psychology says that most abuse victims become angry and resentful because of how they’ve been treated. Anyone who was abused as badly as Snape was is almost guaranteed to believe that they are unworthy of help or love, but instead of becoming kind and loving and Unproblematic he become angry and bitter and harsh because it’s all he ever received. And people have the gall to label him as problematic for not acting in a way that is contrary to how he is expected to act given his situation. It’s unrealistic to expect a person to behave directly opposite to how they’ve been treated their entire lives, and if tumblr cannot accept an abuse victim that does not fit their unrealistic definition, then it needs to stop pretending to be here to support all abuse victims
