Corporate Video Analysis
I will be discussing my corporate video experience and the skills I had to enroll within doing my filming and editing.
My job role was multi-tasked because I worked in a group of two and we decided that to share job roles would be more efficient. Myself I had the roles of cameraman, lighting and editor. I filmed within two of our shoots and did all lighting with support from team members. The editing was held by myself with my team member Samantha Langley. Katy Bullock was originally working with another group but supported us a lot in our corporate work such from filming to ideas. Taking cover shots and interviews were held by us three several times.
My client was my father Suat Belet, owning the Kismet Kebab House and frequent friend of Barnehurst Kebab we put together two kebab shops in to one video. The general workflow for doing a corporate video is the basics which are to enforce pre-production work such as treatments, location recces, risk assessments and proposals for my clients and my own benefit.
Once aside I must plan my shooting schedule and my scenes with each detail covered such as my lighting, positioning and frame. I must make sure that your main subject is covered whether it is an interviewee or an object of intrest be sure to emphasize it to allow my demographic to understand my purpose of the video.
The client was my father Suat Belet so a meeting of such was unnecessary but I did have to explain my reason why I had chose to film for kebab shops in general and what I wanted to achieve from it. There were ideas and plotting involved in what and who our client should of been before choosing kebab, the research taken for Kismet was minimal because myself I have known of the business for many years, from having seen what happens and the precautions kebab shop workers must do daily to have been working in a kebab shop myself the research ideally was already knowledge without actually participating in any kind of research.
By choosing Kismet Kebab House and Barnehurst Kebab for our second location is allowed me to explain the ethos behind the very kebab business in itself, the standard is to serve quality, fresh and outstanding food originating from Turkey to the people of the U.K. To provide great customer skills and to give every care taken for the preparation of the food from 2pm of opening hours till 2am of closing time (Kismet Kebab House hours)
Tasty and unique food served with your choice of fresh salad and multiple choices of meals such as grills and doners. For myself to concept this in video was to have establishing shots of hot food, close ups of the sizzling lamb shish and to also have a shot of the iconic doner kebab. That’s the visual concept and verbally is to have my questions catered around and about kebab and its fame, its differences and
What makes it special? By asking these questions it allows my client to answer the very questions that their customers, my audience would ask them. By combining this all I and my team create a slight persuasion and temptation to wonder how it would be like to have or eat that type certain of food and to experience it hence the promotional/corporate video.
My target audience was solely based demographically to the ages of 18 years of age to 50 male and female. The Kebab business is aimed at every age, race, gender and profession. The aim of my advert was to show the viewers that this food can be enjoyed by many people regardless of their background but the video produced was energetic in the beginning with its introduction then it mellowed down with the interviews slower paced cuts which brought my decision to say that my corporate video is aimed from 18 to 50.
The key elements to a good and professional corporate video is to have a good idea and enough knowledge about your client so that you know well enough how to film and portray your client’s to your chosen audience and then once you have detailed your client, choose your demographic wisely because whatever you pick you must cater your video to their needs. This is an essential in my opinion because if you make a video for a certain age range for e.g. but it appealed to 12 year old it will go down badly for your motivation to carry on with your task for the rest of your corporate video.
I had to arrange interviews with Suat Belet 3-4 times because I and my team did not have the right amount of information on our first shoot or if our sound was recorded badly or if the background was too noisy, we even lost footage from a 2nd interview shoot that had to be re filmed and the location of where you hold your interview is crucial because the slightest mistake that you record will become a problem later when editing.
If your clients have minimal words to mention about their business then suggest and advise them what to say and how to sit, make them feel comfortable because a tense worker on camera would look inappropriate and what I wanted was a good and smooth interview which did happen for us.
Your set up should be perfect or near enough because my mind must be set to professional so should my work so the lighting, camera angles and position of your subject should all be in one motion with the correct light coming through and the smallest details such as the farming of your subject and the very seat the he/she will sit on must be correct. All of this applies to your video and that’s what makes it up to a professional standard set by myself and my team and our college tutors expectations.
I think we hit our key elements eventually with workable footage and the amount of cover shots and retakes that made production more flexible, the main focus after that was to do well in our edit because to create that vibe we anticipated for in our video before it was made was to have an energetic, eye catching and an extremely persuading video that lured potential customers to visit both Kismet and Barnehurst’s kebab shop. The filming was structured well and plan strategically, meaning applying all rules that are required within filming which are the lighting, frame size, aperture, focus, depth of field and many more.
The proposal/treatment must be crated as if I am giving a 3 minute pitch to an audience; in my course it written but for training purposes so that I know in the future when the time comes I would be able to produce a treatment or proposal. I must write descriptively and enough information must be provided to win my clients over, to mention the duration format and title would be consider in the proposal but in a treatment you include the details of your idea and what you will do and how you will do it.
The shooting schedule was organised before any production work was taken so this is called pre-production, it is written in a time table format with times and locations of when and where I would film. I and my group had to film four times in total so after handing in our shooting schedule to our lecturers, we just had to re-film regardless of the schedule.
The camera that myself and my team used were two, Nikon D5100’s and three camera lenses which were the 50mm, macro lens and wide angle lens. The audio that we used was the radio microphones with the Zoom H4N during our first, 3rd and 4th shoot and the 2nd shoot we used a boom pole with a Zoom H4N for our 1st.
The reason why we used these certain equipment was because of the quality that we wanted and what we wanted to achieve as a group, the definition of the Nikons are 1080x1920, 1080p HD resolution with workable format for our editing suites that include the software’s final cut pro 6 and Avid composer. The lens that were used was the right choices because of the variety we could of used within our corporate video were unlimited but due losing our footage and the different interview shots we used.
The radio microphones in my opinion are the best to use during a filming session because of the quality they carry and the hassle free preparation time that they have which becomes helpful during a filming session in progress, they are battery powered and last for an hour or so but decrease any complication massively.
Our team used flo lights for all our shoots and a monfrotto tri-pod, these certain equipment were used because firstly the lighting produced from the flo lights were fluorescent and made our subject look natural during filming and not over exposed. The use of a tri-pod enhances your filming experience with straight and flat shots, left and right pans with up and down tilts that are all doable on a tri-pod.
Our location was simply found because of Suat Belet owning one of the business and the other being mutual friend with Suat Belet, we used two locations because the first idea applied for Kismet Kebab House but due to them changing their name recently, there staff had the old logo and name on their work shirts and there were still old leaflets and poster within the shop that carried the old name and its logo, but the outside of used to be “Milton Kebab” now transformed to Kismet Kebab House was on its banner. So Barnehurst was our 2nd choice of location to film because we still need more footage after our first shoot in Kismet Kebab House.
The preparation for our interview was simple because it was accomplished by choosing the correct location and position for our subject to the right moment of the interview to be taken when the client is comfortable and not tense that is when we will get an all-natural and honest interview and especially if it’s about food and to advertise the difference uniqueness to the audience.
The editing software that I used was Final Cut Pro 6 to cut, crop, synchronize and polish the final video, Magic Bullet within Adobe After Effects colour correction was used for colour and toning. Of the corporate video and our title was created on Adobe After Effects.
In my opinion I think myself, Samantha Langley and Katy Bullock performed well during our corporate video project. The locations and effort put in by us all was very professional and organised, after showing my final edit to my editing and production lecturer they both saw potential but had comments about the final video, they explained why and what they thought of it and what could have been better, but of course all was taken and appreciated and it is only to learn more and that this corporate video was completed and analysed by my lecturers that it has given me more confidence to act and film in a more stable and professional manor.

Death scene
Brainstorming for Music video
He evaporates from being suffocated with a pillow and feathers come out to hide the cut during editing purposes.
She crawls up in to a ball and hides her face away from the abusive father/boyfriend and from fear and anger she makes the room they both are in to shake like an earthquake and the father/boyfriend falls to the ground banging his head.
She is being suffocated by the father/boyfriend and she pulls her arm out to reach for any item near her and the object shifts from its location and hits the father/boyfriend.
She gets chased by people and the father/boyfriend then she is surrounded by them from every corner and she kneels down and shuts her eyes tightly and they all disappear.
The purpose of Music Videos
Purposes of Music Video
Music videos are used exclusively to express artist’s emptions through a hip-hop to a dance theme and style. Music has evolved from decades and generations of style and composure, from live shows and performances thousands of years ago to now digital enhanced technology that allow music to be seen from various perspectives.
Wikipedia claim that from sixty to thirty thousands years ago music was created from the form of art and again music was used to express emotional feelings including painting drawings and sounds to talk and explain about it through the method of noise.
Now in our generations all of these examples are still being shown in video format wherever it is paintings or drawings or loud sounds, what ever it could be can be shown through music video.
The process that artists and directors go to show the deeper meaning to their music is in many ways:
Narrative:
The story to the music, what’s the meaning and the purposes of what the song is about, why its being sung in a certain way and why the lyrics are sung in that style.
E.g. Sam Smith is the artist of the song “stay with me” the meaning of the song is the other persons of a former relationship that no longer exists anymore.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prehistoric_music#origin_of_music
Every music video has a purpose wherever it is to widen the audience’s mind and make them realise the inner truth in-between the song or if it is to just advertise the changing culture towards music in itself.
Music is a very powerful tool that can change the whole appearance of a person from its video or, music is seen to evolve and become the very motive and inspiration to many people and different people from many society’s and cultural aspects.
Music in itself has become so powerful that it is used in many branded adverts for big names such adidas, Nike, footlocker and many other big names. The music industry pull in profits of unexplained amounts and the category “Music” is just a small part of what it holds.
The e.g. here is of a Rapper who raps throughout the ad to promote a new selection of trainers in this store:
Footlocker
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4uS5PkKlBc
This video is very basic and isn’t meant to mean anything besides the promotion of the new trainers, a more innovative approach has been taken but all of this comes to many other links such as the rapper “Big Sean” being used for “Footlockers” ad now means millions of viewers who have viewed that particular advert will gain interest in the artist “Big Sean” meaning more views and more profit for both the company and artists. This is just one e.g. of the purposes behind music.
Music Videos and their directors 1000 word essay. (Raw Edition)
Directors and their music videos
Eif Rivera
Eif Rivera is a music video director who is from the U.S.A California, Los Angeles and has worked with the likes of 50 Cent, Fat Joe, Ashanti and many more. Eif’s work is seen to be dark and sexy, fast cut scenes and cover shots no more than two to three seconds at least in some videos yet Eif does understand the idea of cutting to the tempo and rhythm.
First music video we have “French Montana – Trap House” this video is a hip hop/rap genre with American influence and theme. The scenes are quick, interesting and all ways keep the audience locked in by having panning shots and zoomed in shots of the fast cars and gold jewellery, tracking shots in the introduction of the song and the general techniques established within the filming are mid close ups, long shots, close ups and jiving shots from different angles such as, from toe to head, panned shots from bottom to top and they keep the video moving constantly with flow of the artists for e.g. when one of the rappers throws a punch or kick the camera would go along with the movement or move side to side.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ob6cADwOezg
Eif and he’s profession is in camera work, editing and colour correction. He edits he’s client’s products and finalizes them with what is need of them. Eif according to his website “eifrivera.com” has other ambitions such as making his debut through the big screen or in other words the cinema, his love for movies has given him the talent to film and create what he does today in the music industry. His style is fast pasted and in time with the beat whilst having an edge to the storyline of the music video.
The second music video is 50 Cent ft Snoop Dogg & Jeezy – Major Distribution, in this video it starts from a simple scene of 50 Cent sitting on a couch yet to keep this interesting to the viewer’s Eif takes multiple shots of just that one scene and edits it to a way that keeps it in flow. With this video you can see that Eif makes a cut to the lyrics as well as trying to stay with the beat. When they mention an objective in the lyrics it will come up with a cut scene as relevance to the adjective in the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDM4Xdnb9w4
Colin Tilley
Colin Tilley is a music video director from the U.S.A. California, Los Angeles and has directed feature artists such as Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj, Usher and Chris Brown. Colin’s talent is wide from the U.S and U.K from working with Taio Cruz, Dappy and many other artists from the United Kingdom.
The first e.g. I will give is “Chris Brown – Don’t Judge Me” in this video Chris Brown is seen walking through a desert and the music that has been composed by himself Chris Brown is at a slow pace with a slight intro and alternative scene in the middle of the music video. In some of the shots Chris Brown is not even in synch with the lyrics and it drifts off into a movie like style. The shots used I here are long shots, close ups and extreme long shots. Wide depth of field is used to also keep the background and as well as keeping the artist in focus.
The second e.g. is “Justin Bieber – All That Matters” in this video it also starts with an introduction to the music. The song is slow pasted and relaxed R&B song, the shots taken for this video is very cinematic because of the slow tracking shots and emotions caught on the camera, intimate scene shot at angles such as close ups, mid close ups and for a few dance or moving scenes long shots but rarely.
The editing for “Justin Bieber – All That Matters” is slow and in time with the tempo of the music, slow moving cuts and intense close ups to give the audience the emotionally feeling towards the music video. The colour grading was with a shaded, vintage colour with a slight incandescent light in the most of the shots during the video.
Benny Boom
Benny Boom is a music video director from the U.S.A and has worked with likes of Sean Paul, LL Cool J and 50 Cent. Benny Boom has even produce propaganda videos against George W. Bush during his presidential years. Benny Boom’s style of work is highly affiliated around the rap and hip hop scene and he’s work has widen from music videos to even directing one film “Next Day Air” and has won two BET Awards in 2009 and 2011 for best music video director.
The first video is “Trey Songz - 2 Reasons” directed by Benny Boom and in this video there is a club party with two collaborated rappers and guests dancing. Fast cuts and scenes relating to the party, most of the shots directed are mid close ups and close ups of the drinks and body movement, to give that dance flick feel and in a way advertising the alcoholic drinks in the music video for promotional reasons. In this video there is a reasonable amount of editing between transitions in cut scenes.
I think the work produced by director Benny Boom is at a good standard of film economics and he’s work is anticipated by other young directors which chooses to inspire also through interviews and music videos directed by himself. I think Benny Boom style of directing is very slick and modern in that it will be followed or wanted by many other artists wishing to work with him in the future.
In one interview benny Boom mentions his ideology and what can inspire other directors.

Robo Cop Posters
Myself and Samantha Langley, started to edit a robocop picture in photoshop and we created a poster. The aim was to learn how to use the basic tools in photoshop and to create 2d animation within poster style.
Wednesday 5th November 2014 2D Animation
Todays lesson was based in how to present my tracking text and to learn the very basics.
I first opened up Adobe After Effects then I inserted a file to the software, whilst doing so I entered in some text and edited their effects to my liking. After i open the "window" option the I click "tracker" doing that I must wait moments before I can continue to edit and finish my preferred text. To create text I right click on any of the markers then i can continue.
I render and here are my results.
