Low Energy Devotional Activities and Ways to Connect with the Gods
Let's be honest, religion and consistent practice can be HARD, especially when you're chronically ill, disabled, mentally ill or neurodivergent. This is a list of lower energy practices you can do to connect with your Gods when you're having a rough day.
Pray. You don't have to say the prayer. You don't have to do the full cleansing and offering. Just think about the prayer. It could be as simple as "'Deity Name', thank you. I'm thinking of you and appreciate you."
Dedicate any self care you do to the Gods. You've got to take meds? awesome. it's now a devotional activity.
If you can, light a tea light candle. You can think about who you're dedicating it to as you're lighting it.
Tell them about your day. Have a simple conversation with them (again, this can be in your head if needed).
Offer some water! Water is a great offering if you don’t have the energy to cook, collect or buy something.
Incense is also a great offering because you can light it then forget about it and your house won’t burn down (if you follow regular safety measures).
Resting. Your deities want you to be okay. Dedicating your rest to your deities is especially great if you feel guilty for allowing yourself time to heal.
Turn on a video of someone reading mythos!
Put on a deity playlist. There are plenty of pre-made ones on Spotify.
Veil or bind your hair! Whenever I’m low energy I’ll throw my hair in a ponytail and bind it that way. It doesn’t have to be extravagant.
Make a Pinterest board for them!
Post on a digital altar! There are plenty of discord servers that have digital altars and temples. You could also make a devotional Tumblr blog.
Change your phone lock/home screen to something that reminds you of your Deity.
I hope this is helpful to anyone who needs it! Take care of yourself first and foremost. If you don't think you can manage something on this list then thats perfectly fine too! you're not a bad person for not being able to do something spiritual or religious. Ultimately, these things are not a necessity. Don't stress :)

☀️Deities☀️
I see so many people criticizing others over their relationships, or lack thereof, with their deities, so here are some reminders:
Not having deities is okay.
Having just a devotional relationship with your deities is okay.
Having a working relationship with your deities is okay.
Playing games with your deities is okay.
Harmless jokes with your deities are okay.
Doing fun things with your deities is okay.
Doing devotional offerings for your deities is okay.
Giving physical offerings to your deities is okay.
Not being able to do certain offerings for deities is okay.
Having an altar for your deities is okay, no matter the size.
Not having an altar for your deities is okay.
Laughing with your deities is okay.
Crying with your deities is okay.
Having genuine conversations with your deities is okay.
Being unable to hear/see deities is okay.
Being able to hear/see deities is okay.
Not being able to communicate through divination is okay.
Using divination as a key element in communication is okay.
Not calling on deities during spellwork is okay.
Asking deities to help during spellwork is okay.
Asking deities for help in general is okay.
This is your relationship with your deities in your practice. Don't let anyone tell you what you can and can't do. 🫶
It's 2am, please forgive me if there are any mistakes!
Pagans who collect rocks they find on the ground.
Pagans who buy crystals because it makes them happy.
Pagans who have to declutter a space every time they want to make an altar.
Pagans who lose track of time sitting in front of their carefully crafted altar.
Pagans who live in the northern hemisphere trying to sort through mainstream holidays to find what’s left of theirs.
Pagans who live in the southern hemisphere and struggle to celebrate seasonal holidays and feel out of synch with their community they do.
Pagans who talk to the moon about their day.
Pagans who look into the eyes of their loved ones and find traces of divinity.
Pagans who revel in the freedom of their practice.
Pagans who worry if they’re doing something wrong.
Pagans (I love y’all so much and I’m grateful for every one of you)
Have a wonderful equinox to those still celebrating it! Blessed Be
This blog will cover some intense topics such as gatekeeping, boundaries, and authoritarianism. It WILL NOT cover appropriation, however. As this topic is filled to the brim with drama on both sides and can have conflicting information from practitioners. The line on appreciation & appropriation can get blurry and confusing with so many voices adding in their own opinion. So this subject will do better in its own blog rather than a shared one.
Gatekeeping
This is one of the things I see happen the most in the pagan/witchcraft community. It’s not always done maliciously, as some practitioners seem to just want the best for other members within their community. However, gatekeeping can still harm even when it’s done through benevolence. The line between good and bad gatekeeping is extremely fine, and has much nuance around it.
Bad gatekeeping seems to be the most popular option amongst witches and magick users today, and can stifle and misinform those new to the craft. Because Witchcraft isn’t something within a box. There’s not one singular way to do anything, and gatekeepers like to create a space that focuses on a singular way and encourage/force others to utilize that way and that way only. It gives them a sense of power, and control that they desire above all things. But, people are all going to be different and utilize energies differently. We have varying perspectives, beliefs, and interpretations of the world around us. Logically, one singular way isn’t going to work for everybody. That’s why this sort of gatekeepering is bad and not good. It stifle the persons own beliefs and connection to their craft.
So then, what is as good gatekeeping? Good gatekeeping can be performed when keeping someone from getting hurt or causing harm. (This is excluding baneful spellcraft in retaliation or defense) If a practitioner is going to ingest something that could be poison for instance. There are many plants that aren’t good for ingestion that media spreads false information about. Like wolfsbane and for example. Shown in many movies about werewolves, this planet is actually highly toxic to humans and should never be handled with bare hands. Inexperienced practitioners don’t always realize this. So gatekeeping practices around such things can help save lives. The trick is knowing when to gatekeep and when not to.
Harmful Spellcraft
Probably one of the most heated topics amongst the community is baneful magick. Magick that harms another. While some practitioners don’t like any sort of baneful work it is important to recognize that there are many witches that see a place for it within their craft. Mainly within the confines of retaliation and/or protection. Those are most definitely fine, the problem comes in with those who cast harmful magick for no reason. In this context the magick becomes no different from any other weapon, and the caster no different from any other abuser. Magick should never be used to cause harm simply because you enjoy seeing people in pain. There must be a good reason behind it. As stated earlier, retaliation or protection are the best reasons for warranting baneful casting. Bullying, isn’t.
Conforming to a Label
It’s very easy to see oneself projected in the variety of labels that circulate amongst the community. However, while labels can be helpful with identifying oneself within their magick they can also form a box around you as well. A box that can stifle your creativity and spiritual growth because h I w your growing may not always fit with the restrictions that label presents you with. It’s imperative that you not let the label govern your craft. Do not limit yourself to such singular mindsets. Step out of that comfort zone and reach into the cosmos. Become who you want to be not what a label wants you to be.
Crossing Boundaries
Having boundaries is natural for anybody, especially with something as personable as magick. It’s very improbable to always allow yourself to feel safe around those you share a crafting space with. Many new witches fall victim to predators within the community because they are lead to believe that that their boundaries don’t matter. If anyone pushes you in anyway that’s not comfortable then you will ALWAYS have a right to say no. Let nobody tell you otherwise. You always have a choice.
Predators like to often disguise themselves as trust worthy figures and love to prey on younger and new witches because they can appear most vulnerable. Always be aware of yourself in any space and aware of exits just in case. Make sure everyone is well aware of the boundaries you’ve set for yourself. And leave if nobody is willing to honor them.
Authoritarianism
Unfortunately, not all teachers in the magickal community are trustworthy. As discussed in the previous section some are predators that prey on new and young witches. The best way to spot them is through their authoritarian views and actions. Anyone who places themselves on such a pedestal doesn’t have anything but their own interests at heart. To them, people are tools, steps, and dolls they can manipulate at their desecration. These are the sort of individuals that thrive off control and will often say or do anything to achieve that.
Warning signs for this sort of behavior include:
Consistently drawing attention to their position above you or your position beneath them.
Blatantly ignoring your established boundaries.
Peer pressure to step out of your boundries.
Creating rules and regulations that limit others within the group but will raise them up.
Creating an environment in which their voice holds more power over anyone else’s.
Trying to gatekeep how you practice.
Telling you how you have to believe and leaving no room for your own thoughts and feelings.
Being verbally or physically abusive.
Putting you down most of the time instead of building you up.
Telling you that you NEED them for your magick in order for it to work.
Claiming to be a direct voice for a spirit or deity that they insist only talks to them.
Makes inappropriate and/or unwarranted advances
Has little to no regard for the law
