Assorted ISWM Rants
So, is anybody going to address the absolutely absurd notion that the Head Engineer was smart enough in the technical department to build a star for funsies? However jank, it's still beyond impressive.
Yes, I know it was a joke about Mark going to engineering school.
But in-universe? Goddamn.
Also, the fact that Mark's locker is full of sticky notes he chickened out of sticking somewhere visible, especially when you accidentally find it very, very early into episode one (I think it was the first go-around in the noir universe, forgive me if this isn't correct I have persistent short term memory loss), implies that he had a crush on the Captain long before they were ever hired.
Again, yes I'm aware it was Mark doing a little fan service and foreshadowing the A Date With Markiplier callback during the universal collapse.
But IN-UNIVERSE. That is WILD.
Because what do you mean he probably built the ship bigger and more complex than even he could handle himself, not only because he was trying to get the Captain's attention and seem impressive, but also possibly make it good enough for the chance that they'd consider the invitation to be Captain?! What do you mean just like old times?!
They obviously had a history at one point, I believe on the Invincible I. I assume it blew up while nobody was on the ship, otherwise nobody would be alive to get stuck in the time loop.
The Engineer seems consistently overwhelmed by the job he assigned himself and that is what makes me suspicious he overdid it this time. Well, that, and the warp core situation LOL
Dude gives off loveable idiot hardcore but also like, low-key extremely intelligent when he gets to work. He loves his craft. Which is a very Mark thing to begin with!
Anyway, the reason I don't ship convineer but could absolutely have a blast writing them as hate-buddies is because of the Captain. The Engineer went through too much shit with the Captain to fathom anyone else, and I think Simon would seethe at having to witness that, considering what his captain did to him.
