lucid dreaming, delusion, and fantasy: why shifting isn't any of these, and why none of you know what you're talking about‧₊˚♪𝄞࿐₊˚⊹
there’s an unspoken authority that anti-shifters feel the need to bestow upon themselves. when they stumble upon any shifting related post, they seem to be an expert in so many fields that it’s a miracle they even have time to scroll online at all! they’re qualified psychologists, neuroscientists, oneirologists, theologists, quantum physicists… they even perform foolproof telepathic polygraph examinations on random shifters on social media! and because of this, inexperienced shifters’ doubt is, naturally, amplified.
with all the love in my heart, i think it’s important to tell you that anti-shifters are… kind of stupid? and not because they don’t believe in shifting. it’s not lost on me how the idea of shifting sounds. i get it. but rather because any attempt at a conversation with them turns into a game of diagnostic whack-a-mole. but if you ask them to define any of the terms they’re so generously bestowing upon you, they disappear !! why place more trust in someone with semantic vomit dripping down their chin than someone who has researched shifting, gained an understanding of it, and pursued the practice? shifters’ negative reputation is only a result of a gross misuse of terms nobody can even bother to google the meaning of !! my concern lies not in an anti’s missed opportunity or a longing to be believed, but rather in the effect their words have on shifters’ self concept. because yes, it is so obvious that nothing they’re saying is true, and that they know virtually nothing about what they’re talking about. but when they’re constantly harassing shifters and trying to force their shortsighted, ill-informed beliefs on them, eventually, it’s going to take a toll. so while this will undeniably be the most common sense, mind-numbingly obvious post i’ve ever made, and perhaps it'll seem a little hostile towards antis, let’s put this to bed once and for all.
1. what is shifting itself?
the transfer of awareness between realities. you shift every second. every shift of awareness… is a shift; a new reality. i won’t spend too much time on this because i’ve explained it already in other posts. but intentional shifting will involve detachment from one ego (mind/body/identity/reality), and attachment to (becoming aware of) another ego. this is often approached through the law of assumption (assume the role of someone who has your desire). it is important to note that you’re shifting awareness, not consciousness. awareness is infinite, it is not bound to a single reality. you yourself are not ego, you’re observing ego with awareness. if you were shifting consciousness, that would mean literally everybody in the entire multiverse is comatose until you shift there. you’re also not teleporting. shifting isn’t physical. the surroundings around your awareness change, but not the surroundings around your physical body.
2. what is lucid dreaming?
the state of being aware that you’re actively dreaming, while you’re dreaming. it is categorically impossible to lucid dream and mistake it for reality. for the sake of the argument, if shifting was somehow lucid dreaming, what does this mean for shifters who shift frequently (let’s say multiple times a week, because i have before!!)? first, less than 1% of the entire population has lucid dreams multiple times a week. already, we're not off to a good start, because literally anybody can shift. literally everybody does shift. but this has to additionally account for dreams that also have no “dream logic,” are equally as vivid as reality, feature all five senses, are controllable, and (usually) always happen to be exactly what the shifter intends it to be. multi-sensory dreams including all 5 senses only occur in about 1% of all dreams. from there, only about a quarter of lucid dreamers can manipulate their dreams. and reality checks? looking at a clock, counting your fingers, breathing tests? the dream logic will prevail. i’m gonna ask you to do the math from there. lucid dreams are also very unstable as they occur near the end of REM sleep, meaning too much brain activity will cause you to wake up. there will always be an end. shifting, however, is instant. it’s a one-and-done. your experience in a reality will only end when or if you choose it to. you cannot be “woken up from” your dr. you can be as excited as you want that you shifted without worrying that you’ll produce too much brain activity and be sent back to your cr. and think... how often do you have a dream and delude yourself into thinking it was real? it’s not unreasonable to say that you can tell that you’re awake right now, not dreaming, is it? your dr is just as real. reality = reality = reality. it really should not be this confusing. and finally... awake methods? anyone? the fact that a lack of consciousness is not required to shift?
3. schizophrenia, psychosis, hallucinations, and everything in between
it should go without saying that armchair diagnosis of anybody is incredibly harmful & dangerous to the people who actually deal with these disorders. everybody wants to say they’re woke until it’s time to be woke… and i have no respect for that. stand for something girl!!!!!! not only are you ableist, but you’re also a moron. you couldn’t do as much as name 5 symptoms of schizophrenia or psychosis, and honestly it’s a miracle that you can even spell the names of them with how knowledgeable you are about them… yet you’re feigning concern under a shifter’s post because you look down on them. the truth is, nothing relating to shifting will ever qualify a shifter for those diagnoses. it’s the reason why any spiritual belief or religion is not psychologically classified as delusion. shifting does not impose on or interfere with your daily life. your dr is playing out in an entirely different reality, not spilling over into this one. it is not rooted in any type of disorder. pushing the idea that shifting is hallucination, is again, actively doing harm to people who suffer from them. you cannot control the contents of your hallucinations, and pushing the idea that you can is incredibly reductive and ableist. if that was possible, don’t you think the people who actually have to deal with them would try that? do you think at all? are you able to gain a fraction of the self-awareness needed to realize how much of an idiot you are? one can hope…
4. what is maladaptive daydreaming?
maladaptive daydreaming is a coping mechanism in which somebody excessively daydreams in a way that greatly & negatively interferes with daily life. it can be, to a degree, sensorily-immersive. but again, just knowing what maladaptive daydreaming is immediately differentiates it from shifting in a way that confirms that the two are different. shifting does not interfere with daily life because there is no intersection between the two realities. your dr does not spill over into your cr and leave you immersed in it, stopping you from going about your daily life. all realities play out simultaneously regardless of whether you’re aware of them or not. you might choose to shift back to a reality where you did absolutely nothing in your cr for the exact amount of time spent in your dr. but even then, that reality was always going to be that way. “clones” are not a thing. it’s all just an infinite number of realities playing out with complete neutrality. one is not more important than any other in an objective sense. and again, maladaptive daydreamers know that they are daydreaming. there is no question as to whether it was reality or imagination; the line is drawn clearly. maladaptive daydreaming eventually comes to an end. you come back from your dr when or if you choose to. essentially, apply most of the points i've already made to this.
so when you argue with shifters about their own experiences, ask yourself these questions: do i actually know what i’m talking about? can i define the term i’m going to use? is it embarrassing that i’m presenting an argument with no factual basis with absolute certainty? am i contributing to the literacy crisis right now?
as for the shifters that read this. my sweet little angel gumdrop babies. i love you. i hope this cleared up any doubt you had. please please learn to rely on yourself in your shifting journey. please use discernment when engaging with conversations about shifting. even on advice posts !! it is great to do research, and it is of course very helpful to seek advice from shifters. but please do so in moderation. shifting is very personal, and you are ultimately the one who is providing yourself with tangible proof and actually doing the shifting !! shifting is inevitable. you are so powerful and so infinite !!
can i just disappear from society and forever live in a nice quiet little room with my headphones, computer, and cute clothes. i dont need a social life when i have the internet.
