A Tale of a Highlighter
Inspired by @seungkwaniskimbapkidding and her talk about make-up and highlighters. A Verkwan story.
Seungkwan’s new highlighter was an item that had sparked conversation not just amongst the members but amongst other staff members at PLEDIS, the trainees, sunbaes, make-up and coordi-noonas and literally anybody who managed to get a glint of his glowing cheekbones in the open air.
And that was mostly everybody within a mile’s radius, because Seungkwan’s highlighter was brighter than DK’s smile, even on a grey day.
Seungkwan was more than just a little proud of his new-found angelic glimmer. It had started with a light, feathery dusting on his cheeks, but by the end of the week it was on his cheekbones, browbone, forehead, down the middle of his nose, on his cupid’s bow and his chin, in the truest style of a make-up artist.
By the end of the month, Jeonghan had been seen sporting just a touch of it on his cheeks, then somebody used it instead of hair glitter, then it was found in pockets on tables, chairs and floors, and two weeks after that, the notice board was updated with a prohibition on the highest level: Seungkwan’s highlighter was only to be used on the face. The rumor was that their CEO had found a dusting of it atop his coffee and called it quits, but nobody actually had the balls to ask the man if that were true.
So with the new highlighter craze fairly diminished (with the exception of Seungkwan’s radiant expression), the sight of it was a new and surprising thing. This mostly due to the fact that Seungkwan rubbed off the brand’s writing on the package, mystifying the product’s origins, so that nobody could be as gorgeous as him.
“I cannot believe,” Joshua mumbled, “that you wear your highlighter to dance practice. What a waste.”
“I am perfect,” Seungkwan mumbled, collapsing on the ground. “I have been blessed by the Angel of Glowing, High Cheekbones.”
Hoshi and Vernon both joined the two on the ground. “Okay, I agree. It’s a hard choreo.” Hoshi glanced over. “Anybody want to go to the convenience store? I’m too lazy to go get some chocopies.”
Vernon looked at Seungkwan, and Seungkwan looked back.
“We will.”
It took a solid forty minutes for the boys to return, arms full of plastic bags laden with goodies. They dumped them in the middle of the floor unceremoniously, and Seungkwan followed to get his hands on his Cola Bottles before anybody else could claim them.
Vernon, however, stretched: with his long arms reaching far above his head, the hem line of his shirt crept up significantly, and Seungcheol actually screamed.
“Vernon!” Seungcheol shut his eyes, looking away. “Why the hell do you have Seungkwan’s highlighter around your belly button?”
There was a moment of silence as the twelve other boys in the room processed the sentence. Then all heads turned to Seungkwan, where the previously incandescent sheen on his forehead had become a little more muted - and where Vernon was holding up his shirt to examine it, just under his navel, sat the rest of Seungkwan’s highlighter.
“Shit,” Seungkwan mumbled.
“EW!”
