The 2026 Gender Census is now open!

The 13th annual international gender census, collecting information about the language we use to refer to ourselves and each other, is now open until 13th August 2026.

It’s short and easy, for most participants it takes 5 minutes or less.

After the survey is closed I’ll process the results and publish a spreadsheet of the data and a report summarising the main findings. Then anyone can use them for academic or business purposes, self-advocacy, tracking the popularity of language over time, and just feeling like we’re part of a huge and diverse community.

If you think you might have friends and followers who’d be interested, please do reblog this blog post, and share the survey URL by email or at AFK social groups or on other social networks. Every share is extremely helpful!

tips for driving in texas (from a north texan):

- if you are in an area that you know there’s often cops, go 5-10 mph over

- if you’re in an area where there’s typically no cops, go 10-15 mph over

- you can right turn on red and/or u-turn at any light unless there’s a sign prohibiting it

- do NOT speed in school zones. at ALL. kinda odd how much they seem to care about kids with school zones but not with school shootings, but oh well

- don’t honk at people unless you really need to (i.e. they are sitting at a green light and not going or they are about to hit you head on.)

- if someone passed you, you were going too slow. you were going 20 over? too slow

- the yellow speed “limit” signs at curves and stuff were made up by someone who hates fun. go 10 over.

- when you’re driving on the highway, go the same speed as everyone else. everyone else is going 80 in a 60? oh well. it’s dangerous for you to be going the speed limit at that point.

- if you get pulled over on the highway either the cop has something against you personally or you were going like 50 over the speed limit

- there is no speed limit on the express way. only slow down if there’s something in front of you. my dad has gone 110 on the express way before.

- do not speed in small towns
