Andrew was looking at the ground with Summer at his side. He didn’t want to hear any more of Elsus’ lecture. It’s not like he had intentionally sabotaged the concert - it just slipped his mind! Why the hell didn’t Gunnar have to be part of this musical “extravaganza”? This clearly singled him out! … Well, him and the seven sisters that they had. Man, their parents really had tons of time on their hands, didn’t they?
“Look I’m sorry Elsus! I forgot.. And it’s not like I’m hurt or anything so why can’t you just drop it??” Andrew flailed after Summer so carelessly revealed that they had gone up to the surface. As if a shark attack and meeting with Kaja would do anything but give Elsus a mini heart attack.
Shaking his head, Elsus frowned. “The concert was completed ruined and you made a mockery of Sebastian’s skills. His career, Andrew. You’ve totaled. How many times do I have to tell you that going up to the surface is dangerous? Do you think I want to see my little brother snared by some fish-eater’s hook? What if one of those barbarians saw you?”
Andrew balled up his fists in frustration, feeling the tears welling up. “If you would just listen to me- I’m not a kid anymore!” What was the use of rambling on? Elsus wouldn’t listen.
“Don’t take that tone with me Andrew. As long as you live under my ocean, you will live by my rules! I never want to hear of you going to the surface again!” Elsus spoke sternly, an decibel higher than his normal speaking tone.
“It wouldn’t be your ocean if mom and dad hadn’t died!” Andrew yelled, swimming away with tears running down his face. He knew that had been a cheap shot and would feel like complete shit about it later but right now, he didn’t care. Elsus may have control of the ocean but he knew that their parents’ death had forced him to grow up and watch over all of their siblings.
Summer merely cringed and smiled apologetically at Elsus before following after Andrew. That hadn’t been her fault, right? Going to the surface had just slipped - she hoped that Elsus wouldn’t take it to heart. Andrew didn’t mean it; they all missed the king and queen.
“Andrew, are you okay?”
He shrugged, fiddling with all of his artifacts in the hidden cove. “I’m fine.. I just hope he isn’t too mad at me. I wish he could just see how amazing the human world is… I don’t see how a place that makes such wonderful things could be bad.”
Andrew swam around with a more cheery disposition, picking up and admiring everything in his collection. He had gotten lost in his “human world” until he heard a clatter and bang. Sebastian! That sneaky crustacean had followed him and probably under Elsus’ order to follow him.
The two of them talked for a minute before Andrew became distracted by a ship passing above them. He had to check it out! Sebastian yelled in protest as both he and Summer followed the boy warily. Just as Andrew had suspected, a human ship! They didn’t seem to notice the trio floating near the ship. Kaja showed up, speaking incredibly loud. Andrew had to shush her as he watched the humans with awe.
One of the passengers.. really took the boy’s breath away. Those piercing dark eyes with hair to match. He felt his heart skip a beat. “W-w-wow.. He’s really handsome, isn’t he..? I’ve never seen a human this close before.” He gulped when the furry land creature came towards him. This.. this was a dog, wasn’t it? He had read about it in one of the books before the water completely ruined it.
Andrew felt a breath of relief when the handsome human called the dog back to his side. Suddenly, disaster struck as a hurricane barraged the ship and the thunder set the boat on fire. The man was drowning! Andrew had to save him!
After dragging the man to shore, he took a moment to catch his breath. He was heavy and the boy had not been used to such heavy lifting. Gulping, he turned to look at Kaja.
“Is.. Is he dead?”
Kaja blinked, making her way down to his foot and holding it to her ear. “Oh… Oh I can’t make out a heartbeat.”
Andrew felt his heart drop slightly and then noticed the man’s breathing. “No, no! Look, he’s breathing! Thank goodness! I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to get him to the surface in time.” Andrew wiped the corner of his eyes with a sniffle. Touching the man’s face cautiously, he trembled.
“You’re okay now, sir.” He heard multiple footsteps coming their way and decided it would be time to get himself back to the water before he was discovered. No doubt that Elsus would explode for sure if he got caught.
Sinclair groaned as he came to, the feeling of a hand pressed against his cheek almost comforting. The voice that spoke to him, letting him know he was okay, was decidedly male, but when he finally got his eyes open the sight that greeted him was that of his sister and Max.
“Goddammit Sinclair, were you trying to give me a heart attack?!” His twin scolded him, throwing herself into his arms as their dog trotted around them, whimpering and licking his face every now and then.
“I– I was saved by a boy, Ali. He pulled me from the water…..” Looking around, he held his head, wondering where the boy could have disappeared to.
“I think someone has swallowed a bit too much salt water,” Alison laughed through her tears, helping him to his feet. “Let’s get you home. Come on, Max!”
Andrew had been roaming around the ocean in a giggly mood, having the mysterious dark haired human on his mind the entire time. Sebastian had insisted on forgetting the whole thing and not telling the king at all. He wanted to stay in one place and who knows what Elsus would do if he found out that Andrew had resurfaced to the human world once again after deliberately being told not to do so.
How could Andrew stay away? The world was a beautiful place. Sure, the ocean had its great things too but up above had an entire world that he had yet gotten to explore. So many things for him to learn!
Lurking in the shadows, Hana the sea witch had seen everything. A human? Andrew in love with a human? Preposterous! But the boy would need legs to roam on the land. The cogs in her mind began to turn as he would soon come to her for assistance for sure.
Sebastian had paranoia running through his veins. Elsus had definitely noticed something strange about Andrew’s attitude as one of his sisters had noted him to be ‘in love’. However, the likeliness of him knowing it was with a human was closer to zero.
“I have to see him again, Summer. Kaja knows where he lives, right? Oh, we’ve gotta go back!”
Sebastian had tried to stop them but they managed to get out of his sight while he went on a lecture about how being in the ocean surpassed the land. Then, as luck would have it, Elsus called him in to question about the strange behavior Andrew had been exhibited.
When they found Andrew in his trove of human treasures, Elsus knew everything and lost his temper. He had destroyed practically everything and Andrew cried, sending his brother away. It wouldn’t be long for the henchmen of Hana to come in to convince him to go see her.
Andrew felt uneasy about going to see Hana.. However, he ended up traded his voice for legs to roam up above. He washed up ashore using a torn up sail to cover his body, being recognized by the dog that had been on the ship. It came running at him with loud barking.
With panic, he stumbled clumsily onto a rock formation. He had no idea how to use this legs! If only he had asked for a instruction manual or something.. darnit!
