After the end of the play Joe Pitt become goth. That's it.

Hear me out it fits he needs to change drastically and he can't ever come back to his job and we know he likes horror movies (the exorcist and rosemary's baby references in the play). Also he has a faith crisis of course so he might as well be listening to that Christian death or that sweet Lords of the new church. The absolute crushing sadness of the end of his storyline will be better if he goes to a goth night or a nice little cemetary listening to Boys don't cry. And with the constant motive of his storyline to be in a a new skin he would 100% do it.
