Aaron couldnât remember the last time heâd been to a fair. His parents had always been too busy to take them to any events that werenât work-related. The one time that a nanny had attempted to take the Champion children to something as commonplace as a fair, she had been reprimanded, but for those few hours when the children had been allowed to simply be children, had been some of the best of Ronnieâs childhood. Now, he tried his best to be as indulgent as possible, as long as it didnât get in the way of work, which was why he was currently shoving fried oreos into his mouth and fending off quizzical looks from those around him. âI know what youâre thinking,â he began, gesturing to the butterfly adorning his face like a mask. âFace paint isnât for adults, and usually Iâd agree, but when a six-year-old asks you to âget one tooâ saying no is an asshole move and Iâm many things, but an asshole to a child is not one of them.âÂ
Her gaze had came to fall on a slightly familiar face adorned with bright colors and a rather large amount of glitter as Priscilla sat and took in the sites. Sheâd stared a moment too long because before she looked away he had noticed and spoke up. âOh do you now,â Priscilla prompted when he mentioned knowing what she was thinking. She couldnât hold back a pleased smile as he explained and once he had she shook her head slightly. âActually I was going to ask where I could get one of my own,â she answered her face not betraying even the slightest flicker of emotion that could make him think she was joking. Her features conveyed an entirely serious conviction.
