let me brew her when she has too much on her plate, with exactly the too large amount of sugar she requires in each cup. let me sit beside her in quiet moments in her lab when she's categorizing her data. let me swallow down her latest concoction after i see how she's spent the last week toiling over it. let me be a shoulder for her to lean on. let me accompany her to doctor's appointments, tenderly bandage her leg. let me go along with her whims not because it is forced upon me. but because i care more than anything to do the things that would make her happy

i don't want the perfect angelic sanitized version of agnes tachyon. without all of the quirks, without all of the lovely personality traits that attracted me to her in the first place. if i interact with agnes tachyon then it comes from a place of accepting that intriguingly flawed woman and loving her in whole.

I think if you ever draw Manhattan Cafe with, say, black nail polish and don't make it clear that you are intentionally putting her in an alternate fashion style as an artistic concept or similar, you are likely gravely misinterpreting her character. It is true that appearances are not one-to-one with personality, but I feel that interpreting her as being one who would choose to express herself in such a way is practically a Hello Kitty using Xanax-level misapprehension.

Uncolored is the most canonical one. I think the main sticking point here is "a character's appearance interpreted as the way that they are," vs. "a character's appearance interpreted as the way that they want to project themselves to others." (There's also "how the designer/writer wants to convey the character," but I'll gloss over that for simplicity's sake for now.)

Black nail polish, I feel, is conflated as a statement. Something alt, something different. Goth, punk, emo, et cerera. You see society and you want to project your aesthetic as different from that norm. There is loudness in its existence.

I do not believe Manhattan Cafe is that. She is just... someone who resides in the cracks, keeping to shadowier corners, seeing life behind the lines in all its occult ways. This is simply her existence. It does not come off as if she feels the need to assert that any more than she already does by default. Her long, free hair and large ahoge extend a certain unkemptness to her body, as if a ghost or corpse. Would she shy away from getting her bangs cut, yet still do her own nails? I wouldn't think so.

I think a lot of people look to her black hair and black garb and ghostly appearance and jump to that preconception of goth as it emerged in 1980's Britain. Her attire is undoubtedly Western, yes, but not in that aspect. Instead, it is something that represents her name - Manhattan Cafe - in a way that, perhaps, contrasts from the way she presents her hair and face. Black and gold, from her jockey's silks, color her overcoat. A neatly done tie maintains a level of formality that feels traditionalist rather than countercultural. Black gloves holding a coffee mug conjure the image of a barista with a velvet touch. It feels as if she is a corpse from yesteryear dressed up for a funeral. Black nail polish does not fit into that aesthetic. If you truly want to slap a subcultural label on that aspect, it probably reads as more hipster than anything. That just so happens to be haunted.

Oh, right, tier list, like a YouTube clickbait video. Uncolored is S tier. Black nail polish is F tier.

I think if she were somehow convinced into trying on nail polish with someone else, she might pick that complementary yellow. A tier. Pink would be moe. B tier. Blue is something, uh, C tier, whatever. I don't know. What were we talking about again?

Updated demographics of experimental community involving systems containing Uma Musume-introjected alters (November 22nd, 2025)

It has been quite some time since the beginning of the experiment! Rather than say that it is going strong (a weak statement if there ever was one), I will say that the continued community appears to have reached a period of stability and steady growth after an initial rapid growth period in its infancy. Many systems have since joined the experiment (numbering nearly a hundred in total), and many new Umamusume-introjected alters have sprung forth from systems already established in the community.

This is an update on the initial post, almost 3 months old. A large thank you to my research assistant, Lumi, who aided me greatly in updating and formatting the new data.

Brief observations:

It seems that with time and, perhaps, ripeness of a community, introjection has spread to involve a much wider variety of Umamusume. Despite more Umamusume being now released on the global version of the game, more alters introjected from JP-exclusive Umamusume have emerged (relative to Global server Umamusume) than ever before.

It remains a JAMD server. Sampling bias perhaps at play.

This chart still does not account for systems with multiple introjects of the same source. In particular, a phenomenon has been observed wherein numerous systems have spawned forth duplicates of JAMD, wherein each source-sharing alter have, perhaps, opposite temperaments.

Of all Umamusume-introjected systems in the server, 55.29% contain at least one Agnes Tachyon introject. Interesting.

The 2nd Umamusume fictive VRChat meetup occurred today, with our biggest turnout yet: over 25 individuals were present to chat, play, and race. Here is a photo from the beginning of the meet, not including those who joined late. Though I was not present, my headmates Nakayama Festa (pictured) and Oguri Cap were there in my stead.

It seems many VRChat worlds are not built for 25 people.... Haha!
