I just spent this weekend with my family from Cuba, and when I began telling them about Purr Tapes and how Hunter and I tend to stick to electronic music, my uncle asked me if I had ever heard of Nacional Electrónica before.

And, well, I hadn't. But I'm glad I now have. These guys pull their inspiration from the experiences they're emerged in, and while they're heavily influenced by the realities of a land that time forgot, they've really pushed themselves forward in leading an era of counter-cultural electronic music in Cuba.

Secret Mountains - High Horse

This isn't "new," but Secret Mountains is dropping their newest album, Rainier, today! So, of course, I had to reminisce on this hauntingly beautiful track that made me fall in love. As a female who sings (or attempts to, rather), I can catch a lot of female vocalists just really trying to hard to sound cute rather than let their passion flow through. This is the entire opposite of that. It's so sincere, so gentle. And I can't express my appreciation for it enough.
