“Yeah, born and raised,” Ella smiled, thinking fondly of her childhood. Oh, how much easier things had been then. It all just seemed like some idyllic faraway dream now. 

She took the papers with a warm smile, “Thank you…Oh, no - I’m actually a teacher at the Elementary School. This is all just paperwork for a little field trip I’m planning to take my class on.” The blonde could sympathise with never being allowed to do things, “Well if you’re here now, why not do what you’ve always wanted to do?”

“That must have been fun,” Anna smiled as she suddenly pictured a life in which she and Elsa grew up free of royal duties and expectations. Maybe then Elsa would be less stressed, no longer being the heir to the throne, and their bond even closer. But she could only imagine. 

At the mention of a field trip, Anna gasped loudly. “A field trip? Are you kidding? Oh gosh, I’d always wanted to go on one of those! Are you going to a museum? Or, ooh, an aquarium?” More thoughtfully, Anna considered the blonde’s suggestion that she try what she had always wanted to do. “I guess I could always take a few classes at the local college. Maybe then I could go on my first field trip!”

“Maybe we should hit up Flo’s then? Just because that place has food that you would swear was made by a grandmother who’s secret ingredient was love,” Rapunzel giggled. She personally missed out on knowing her grandmother, thanks to Mother Gothel, but she heard someone say that about the cafe and had to agree that it sounded correct. “Unless you like Italian more.” 

Rapunzel was starting to really like this girl. Her smile was infectious and to be perfectly honest, she reminded her a bit of herself. Although she had only been talking to her for a bit, and the blonde had already gotten in trouble for trusting people too quickly, she couldn’t deny the way Anna already felt a friend. “Well, I’m glad you’re making your way back to that! I think the relationship siblings have is just…” she sighed, imaging the best of it. “Unbreakable, you know? Well, I’m sure you know better than me,” she giggled. Talking about family was always a slippery slope with Rapunzel. People in Cadense probably already knew the tale of the lost daughter, stolen from her family and mistreated by a stranger, thanks to all the news articles. But this girl was new and probably uninformed about Rapunzel’s past, giving her an opportunity to stay away from that topic. “I don’t have an brothers or sisters, unfortunately. It was really….lonely growing up. I think it would have been really awesome to have another kid around.” This loneliness was only multiplied by the fact that she wasn’t allowed to have friends and only allowed outside of the house very rarely. 

“No, Flo’s sounds amazing! Besides, you know more about the food around here than I do. “ Anna began to scan the area for any sign reading “Flo’s.” “So is it around here?”

“You’re right!” Anna nodded, feeling this girl had given just the perfect word to describe her and Elsa’s relationship. “Elsa and I really are unbreakable. Especially since we’ve been through so much together...but that’s all in the past now.” Or at least she hoped. Elsa might turn her away again at any time, but as usual, Anna chose to look on the bright side. “I’m sorry you were so lonely. But you aren’t now, right? Unless you are, in which case, consider me your honorary sister!”

“To be honest, it’s been forever since I’ve seen her, but if she ever moves to Cadense I’ll be sure to introduce you two.” He grinned, growing very fond of Anna very quickly. He looked t the window and realized where they were. “We’re so close Anna! It won’t be long until you get to have your very first Noodle Burger!”

“I hope she does move back, then. I could always use new friends! It gets a little lonely when you’re new in town and don’t know anybody.” Anna glanced out the window along with Fred. “Oh gosh, I’m so excited! But are there different kinds of Noodle Burgers? Which one should I get?”

“It’s great to meet you too Anna! I promise, you’re gonna love Noodle Burger, it’s the best kind of burger there is!” The Noodle Burger restaurant was located just outside the city’s borders, which is why not a lot of people from Cadense went there, but Fred didn’t mind the journey when he had Healthcliff to drive him and this new friend to accompany him. “You know Anna, you remind me a lot of one of my old friends. Don’t worry, that’s a good thing, she’s amazing and really sweet, like you.”

“It sure sounds good! I mean, noodles and burgers? How come I never thought of that?” As Fred complimented her, Anna couldn’t help but blush. “Aw, Fred, that’s so sweet! Thank you! But now that you mentioned her, you have to tell me who is this elusive friend of yours. If she lives around here, I’d love to get to meet her!”

Ella couldn’t help the beaming smile that spread across her face when the girl was so gracious. “Honestly, I’m not normally the kind to trip over my feet…But Mondays are Mondays,” she let out a little laugh as they picked up the supplies. “Thank you,” there weren’t a great deal of people who would actually help her pick the stuff up. The blonde looked at the other with a slight tilt of her head, “You look really familiar. Have we met before?”

She’d always been a lover of books, and had read countless on other countries and their rulers - but she had no idea she was staring at one of the elusive sisters from Arendelle. “Sorry,” she waved a hand dismissively at herself, “I say that to way too many people.”

“Probably not,” Anna laughed as she shook her head. “I’m not really from here. Just visiting with my sister. But I like Cadense a lot, from what I’ve seen! Do you live around here?”

Anna gathered all the supplies she could and held them towards the woman in outstretched arms. “Here you go! Gosh, you sure do have a lot. Are you in college? Ugh, I’ve always wanted to go to college, but Mama and Papa would’ve  never let me.” She sighed. Such is the life of a princess. “Oh, well.”

Mondays were always a bit of a struggle in the teaching world. Today hadn’t been going too badly until little Tommy accidentally trapped his thumb in the desk and screamed down the entire classroom. Of course Ella had gone completely out of her way to make sure he was all fixed up and feeling better before recess. 

She’d been in a world of her own, worrying about too many things out of her own control as she walked back home from school. That was until she stepped around the corner and walked straight into an oncoming pedestrian, dropping all her folders. 

“Oh my goodness,” she bit her lip, scrambling to pick everything up, “I am so sorry…are you okay?”

“OOF!” Anna exclaimed as a thick binder smacked her in the face. It took her a moment to adjust from where she had been- sending a text to a new friend while walking down the sidewalk, which admittedly is never a good idea- to where she was now, which was being attacked by school supplies out of nowhere. But the young, blonde woman who owned the school supplies apologized gracefully, and that was enough for Anna. 

“Don’t worry about it! Here, let me help you,” she said as she bent down to help the woman pick up her things. “Honestly, I’m surprised that it wasn’t me who was running into you. Believe me, I am the clumsiest person I know!”

“Yay!” He jumped up and down before realizing he was acting childish. “I mean…..cool cool.” Without thinking it through, he took her hand and led her to the end of the street where a black limo pulled up for him when he signaled it. “Heathcliff! One ride to noodle burger for me and….” He looked over to her. “What did you say your name was again? Mine’s Fred.”

Anna giggled, then jumped in unison with her new friend. “Yay, food!” She exclaimed as she followed her newfound friend to his limo (which would have surprised her if she hadn’t grown up a member of a royal family and was used to luxury). “Oh, right! I’m Anna. Nice to meet you, Fred!” she introduced herself, shaking his hand.

“You’re looking for food, huh? Well, lucky for you, you came to the right guy! I’m kind of dining expert in these here parts.” He said, imitating a silly sounding voice. “But if the lady’s looking for the best, I’d be happy to introduce you to Noodle Burger. It’s a little far but no too bad, and it’s definitely worth it.”

“Lucky me, then!” Anna laughed as the boy explained his culinary prowess, and laughed even more when he put on a silly voice. “Well, good sir,” she mimicked him, “if you say it is worth it, I don’t doubt your judgement one moment.”

“The Lucky Cat Cafe has a lot of good snacks and drinks! But if you’re looking for a full meal, Flo’s V8 Cafe has the best food, honestly!” It was nice to be able to show someone else around because Rapunzel was starting to feel less like the new girl after four years of living ‘normal’ life. Maybe she wasn’t completely new, but she definitely wouldn’t consider herself a local even if she lived in the town her whole life. Considering how much Mother Gothel hid her away, she barely knew anything about the place she lived. “Tony’s is good, too! They have the best pasta. I could take you to whichever one you want to go to. You know, just because i’m not the best at giving directions,” she said with a giggle. Maybe she was being a little too helpful, but that was just her nature. 

“I just met her one day!” That was usually how she knew most people. Due to her talkative qualities, she managed to strike up a conversation with most people. She didn’t add that something about Elsa made her feel as if they shared similar struggles. “I guess I kind of….insisted she should. I love hearing about siblings! I used to wish for a sister so badly when I was young.” She still wished she had a sibling. But that was before she found out Mother Gothel wasn’t even her mother; she wouldn’t wish what she went through on anyone else. “Is having a sister the best thing ever?” Rapunzel could only imagine it was.

Immediately, Anna became overwhelmed and excited by all the food possibilities in Cadense, which were well near her favorite kinds of possibilities- almost as much as the possibility of a new friend, and this sweet, cheerful girl definitely showed potential. “Oh, wow, they both sound amazing! There’s no way I can decide. Maybe you should pick for me? Call me crazy, but I already trust your judgement.” Anna laughed, even though she meant it. 

“Having a sister is...” Anna wished she could answer “the best,” but that wasn’t always true. “It’s usually good. Elsa and I were super duper close as kids, and then we weren’t...but we’re making our way back! And no matter what, I love her to death. So, do you have any siblings? Brothers, maybe?”

Florian looked up from his phone in surprise, not expecting to be dragged out of the text he was typing out. It took a moment for him to make the transition from his phone to the world around him, but when he did he smiled at the girl in front of him, nodding as he listened. “Oh,” he glanced around them, listing his favorite spots in his head and trying to sort and order them. “I mean, do you like seafood?” he asked, “because Les Poissons is sort of like essential around here. I mean, are you looking for a nice place for dinner or coffee and bagels?” There were plenty of options, but he wanted to give her some helpful suggestions if he could.

“Mmmmm,” Anna moaned, “now that you mention it, seafood sounds so good right now! I used to eat it all the time back home, but it was mostly, like, herring and whatnot. American seafood is probably way better!” Pausing for a moment, Anna realized that she was giving this perfect stranger details of her life that he, most likely, gave zero shits about, not to mention no clue as to where her home was. “Anyway, yeah, Les Poissons sounds awesome! How far is it from here?”

“Sore spot, red?” She coos with evident lack of outward concern, though who’s to say what might be tugging beneath. A tinge of jealousy, maybe, for having parents worth caring for. Still, she shrugs after, some semblance of disinterest coloring her features. “Whatever.” Coming from someone who practically threatened her not too long ago, it isn’t offense she finds in the claim. “You aren’t going to last long around here if you don’t get a thicker skin, sweetie. There are worse people than me lying around.” A word of advice she’s quite certain won’t be taken to heart coming from her. Tossing the earbuds aside after awhile, growing tired of trying to make them work again, she turns back a second time with a wave of her fingers following. The assumption lies with the ‘conversation’ being over for good this time.

Anna huffed and puffed enough to blow a house down, but she knew that all the huffy breath in the world wasn’t going to be enough to win this argument. As the rude girl walked away with a confidence Anna wished she could have at this,  moment, instead of plain frustration, the princess dug deep down into her vessel of comebacks in order to find something, anything, that would let her at least have the last word. “Well...well...” she shouted after the girl, “you won’t survive anywhere with such a horrible attitude! You’ll die of...loneliness!” There, that ought to do it.

“.. Do I look like a tour guide, red? Food is whatever, go figure it out.” She’s mumbling, mostly, hardly caring if her new shadow could catch on. She’s someone who could rarely afford anything beyond the necessities and tended to frequent the usual rundown spots out of comfort rather than quality – it never struck her as a very big deal. Her pace quickens just as soon as it occurs to her she’s being tailed, the other obviously having trouble grasping the concept of leaving her be. Misinterpreting it, evidently, as there’s suddenly a much angrier voice at her back that Vidia only manages to catch because she’s still fiddling with one of the earbuds. It may have been damaged in her clumsiness just before .. oh, well. That’s what she got for going cheap. 

“Get used to it, sweetie. The world won’t bow to you just because you think you de–” Initially, it’s a call towards her failure to comply, her lack of willingness to assist. Her apparent ‘rudeness’. And it’s louder for certain. She’s distracted enough that she’s willing to entertain some semblance of a conversation as she fails in her endeavors to fix what’s broken. It nearly slips by her as a consequence, that last bit about guards and what they might have done. It stalls her, heeled boots pausing in step, and she turns again. A hand meets her hip expectantly as her features shift; it’s hard to guess if she’s pissed at the almost threat or just interested – likely a bit of both. 

“You’d what, exactly? Make me plead forgiveness?” There was a laugh, and she teases all the same, “That almost sounds like an abuse of power, princess. Surely, mommy and daddy taught you better.”

Mommy and Daddy. The words are two separate stabs right in Anna’s heart, and immediately, she can feel herself bleed. She bleeds memories, that of days spent with her ear to Elsa’s door, hoping to catch a snippet of conversation between her sister and parents. Memories of playing dolls all alone in the ballroom because Mother had to look after Elsa and Father had to look after the kingdom, or vice versa. Memories that pained worse than any jab with a sword ever could, that could only be matched by the pain of words. 

“Don’t you dare speak about my parents like that! Or in any way ever!” Anna demands, her mouth taking control and her mind far behind. “You, obviously, were the one who wasn’t ever taught any manners!”

Rapunzel jumped a bit when she felt a tap on her shoulder, old habits of the horror stories Mother Gothel used to tell her. Sometimes, it was hard to let go of that jumpy nature. However, there wasn’t a scary monster or murderer when she turned around, but the sweet face of a young girl. Immediately, a grin came upon Rapunzel’s face. “Of course! I’ve only been here for a few years, though, but I think I can recommend some good places.” Technically, she had lived here her whole life, but it had only been four years since she was allowed to live freely. 

“You’re…Elsa’s younger sister, right?” The blonde couldn’t help but ask, feeling as if she recognized the other from somewhere. Elsa was someone she had recently been able to befriend; at least, she hoped they were friends. The princess was a bit closed off, but Rapunzel felt as if the two could relate. She was sure her sister was just as sweet as she was. “You look familiar from a photo she showed me.” 

“Thanks so much!” Anna gave her appreciation to the friendly girl. Not that Anna was one to jump feet first into anything- okay, she totally was- but this girl seemed the type that the princess would want to share a meal with. Hopefully this girl would think the same of her. 

Admittedly, she was taken aback when the girl mentioned Elsa’s name. “Yeah, that’s my sister. But how do you know her?” She relaxed when the girl mentioned how she had already met Elsa. “She showed you a photo of me? That’s sweet...not that Elsa isn’t always sweet, she just usually isn’t that sweet. Sweet with a touch of....salty, I guess? Anyway, I’m Anna!”

If anyone thought to ask, Vidia’s days usually weren’t very productive ones. Smoke. Grab a beer. Admire her reflection in her car window. These were all very typical activities and entirely normal by her standards. Her decision to go for a run? Less typical, but not so unheard of when she needed time away from the noise of the world and didn’t have much else to depend on. Her car was in the shop again, and she was in the mood for something a little less flashy anyway .. for once.

Easing her way into a steady stroll in time, taking a pause at a corner after what must have been close to half an hour or so with earbuds still blaring, Vidia’s startled enough by the tap against her that they seem to fumble to the ground. Her initial reaction hardly the most pleasant as she moves to grab them again, grey-blue hues thankfully latch on to the redhead, and her evident lack of a threat, some time after and she seems to settle – at least enough so that violence is no longer her go to instinct.

Still, the words that follow aren’t her favorite, their clear amiability even less welcoming, no matter how brief. In response, Vidia turns on her heel rather immediately, entirely comfortable with ignoring anything that chipper-seeming as she heads in the completely opposite direction, intending to mind her own business again.

“Oh, uh, alright,” Anna replied to the silent stranger, “I’ll follow you then!” But after a few moments of chasing after the girl, Anna realized just what was happening: she was being ignored, and she did not like being ignored. 

“Oh, I see,” she nodded, her temper slowly flaring up, “Haha, that’s really funny. Just completely ignoring the girl who asked for your help, pretending like you didn’t even see her in the first place. I mean- it’s not funny at all! No, actually, it’s very rude! And if I had my royal guard with me- I mean...” Shoot. Anna wasn’t exactly supposed to be discussing her royal status when out and about all alone. “Not that I have a royal guard- or royal anything.” Nice save, Your Royal Awkwardness, she thought.
