What I liked about Hamnet is what I guess everybody liked about Hamnet. That grief is not singular. When all those people reach out for Hamlet, they do so for a similar reason as Agnes, that they have lost people to the plague and grieved them and held their hand through pain and long to do it again. They see their loved ones in Hamlet and to be given even a second to vicariously ease their loved ones pain, to let them know that they are there for them, the longing to find a place to put all the care they still hold for people that are gone, it's worth something. And in doing so they also grieve Hamnet as they would one of their own, letting Agnes see that she is not singular in her grief both from her husband and the people around her who also suffer similarly. What a beautiful statement about the power of art. Especially in a world of people still processing grief from Covid.
