Bobby: It's just like in chess, sometimes you have to sacrifice your king to win.
Professor X: That's exactly how you lose in chess.

THEN.
The first thing Charles noticed when he awoke was silence. Not silence outside of him -- a machine hummed to his right and on his left a radiator protested in small staccato squeaks -- but a silence in his head. It must’ve been a dream. They never really came, he thought. But when he went to move his legs, they refused to cooperate. Not a dream, then. Think logically, Charles.
The room was unfamiliar and echoed something too sad to name. An attempt to move made him notice his hands were chained to a heavy desk. Taken, he remembered.
“Hello?” The voice that came out of him was raw from disuse. Just how long had he been here? He tried again. “Hello?”
Nothing.
It wasn’t long before he eyes fell to a card laid on the desk in front of him, shiny and new. The top of the card read: SUPERHUMAN REGISTRATION ACT. Of course.
CHARLES FRANCIS XAVIER [ code name: Professor X ]
The man couldn’t help but laugh at that, even when bound against his will. Other basic pieces of information were listed on the card, but the mutant’s gaze drifted to the broadest section.
ABILITIES:
- Vast telepathic abilities extending to mind reading - Memory manipulation - Mind control - Astral projection - Genius-level intellect, and offensive psychic attacks
“Almost right,” he said to the empty room, suddenly acutely aware of the fact he was being monitored, even without his abilities. “Though I think you got my weight wrong.”
[NOT PICTURED: a detailed sketch kyle had been working on of charles with the mansion in the background]
i wasn’t sure what to get you, but i hope you enjoy the gifts! I’ve always liked making something personal to give to someone which is how the drawing came about. happy holidays!
- kyle.
A warm smile spread across the telepath’s face as he pored over the gifts. The drawing was so detailed it made him wonder how he hadn’t noticed himself being watched, but the gesture was so thoughtful that he didn’t really mind. He tucked it away into his desk drawer, wound the scarf around his neck, and took one of the mugs down to the kitchen to make himself a cup of tea, thrilled by his gifts from the Green Lantern.

Barry knew he wasn’t the leader of the Justice league but he did know he was a founding member which had to count for something. “I wanted to talk about how we’re going to stop or eventually end this war? We have an arsenal of teams ready to fight for equality. I was thinking we create a name for this new team to build a bond.”
“Straight to the point, then,” the man sighed, moving behind his desk. “There’s a lot that needs to be done, yes, but the priority right now is keeping people safe and here is the safest place to be, at least for now.” He still felt iffy about the idea of team names and aliases. “What would you propose?”
scarletarachne:
“the good kind of asylum—” brows furrowed slightly at his rebuttal but shook it off completely. he was surprised the man didn’t pry but appreciated it. the man was smart, he had heard many things about him. she was sure aracely would have liked him although he was not too sure if the girl was a mutant or not. “it’s the past— it’s going to take a hell of a lot to feel well here. though—” he paused, only slightly hesitating. “nice thing you’re doing housing everyone here, mutant and not. sucks to be alone in the world.”
“Is there a good kind?” The question was half-rhetorical, but the telepath didn’t agree with the idea of asylums, at least not in their current state. “Your past is my present, I’m afraid. And for some, I suppose your present is their past.” A contemplative look followed by a shrug. “Any decent man with an estate as big as this all to himself would open his doors in this situation.”
@profcharlesxaviers liked for a starter !
gaze flickered among the wide range of books that filled many bookshelves around the room. reading had always been an interest to him, it almost kept the ex marine sane despite everything. it was almost like he could disappear into another reality, escape the troubles. he’d already finished the first book he picked up, now interested in starting another one. the presence of the other didn’t go unnoticed to frank as he continued his search. “got any recommendations?”
“That entirely depends on what you’re interested in, my friend,” Charles answered, a happy lilt to his voice. “I have a great selection of the classics over by the window.” Literature was one of his favourite subjects to talk about and he was more than willing to take any distraction offered to him.
scarletarachne:
he took in the tone of voice, “fine, asylum for recluse of society.” he muttered, obviously attempting to conceal the slight pity in his voice. mutants were always discriminated against and in the future it’d be clones as well as if either had any choice in being born—- or made. “just got here a week ago, freaky shit. no, i’m a failed science experiment.” he stated, half joking but hoped he wouldn’t catch the truth.
Charles raised an eyebrow at the word ‘asylum’, but didn’t bother to argue with the boy. “Right. Well.” Truth be told, it didn’t seem wise to press the ‘science experiment’ issue. The telepath met far too many people, both mutant and otherwise, who had suffered incredible trauma at the hands of people who called themselves scientists, and the topic wasn’t exactly first conversation material. “Do you feel you’ve been settling in well?”
cfharryosborns:
“I ruined your house, you’re allowed to snap at me.” He smiled weakly, pushing himself up against a bit of a wall. “Are you sure? I can try and clean up instead?”
The Professor shook his head, waving a hand dismissively. “Don’t be silly. That can all be sorted later.” An attempted smile. “And you’re only going to make more mess by staying here bleeding on my rug.”
boosterxgold2442:
“Yes, she is fantastic, I admire her and every other hero. I would, thank you. Do you know the owner of this place? I wouldn’t want to impede.”
“Oh. That would be me,” the mutant answered, slightly surprised. He had assumed the man would already know from his name. “It’s no impediment, I assure you.”
Barry had been living in 73 for a while now and only had met the owner of the mansion only a handful of times but never held a conversation with the man. He knew the guy was the leader of the X-men kinda like Diana was the leader of the league. Barry saw the professor down the hall and flagged him down. ”Charles, do you have a minute?”
@profcharlesxaviers
Charles wasn’t doing anything particularly important. Right now everyone was stuck playing the waiting game. “Of course.” He gestured for the other to follow him into his office. “How may I help you?”
