I wrote a thing.
I got bored and wrote a thing. One sitting. Only minor correctios (typos and such.) Tell me what you think.
A diver plunges into the cold seawater. Hearing only the bubbles and draws of breathe on their respirator after the initial splash. As their submerged vision comes into focus, they look down and take in the inky blackness that awaits them below. They allow themselves to rotate slowly in a circle, staring all sides into deep blue eternity. Above them the only thing besides them and water is the boat they jumped off of. Looking up, the rainfalls impact on the surface of the water creates a unique perspective from where they float. Suspended in the cold weightless grasp of the endless sea.
The diver begins to drift forward slowly, looking around casually, as if hoping to maybe see something else besides infinite blue silence.
As they move forward, they catch sight of something in the distance. Drifting lazily in the ocean current, the creature barely moves. Long and slender, the divers first thought is ‘shark’ but it quickly identifies it as an impossibility, so the diver swims closer. Each second bringing more of the creature into view. The creature floats sideways, its long tail, covered in grey scales that shimmer in what little light is available moving so slowly and lazily it seems to be the current doing the work.
Attached to the tail is a pale, slender human torso. Long toned arms end in webbed fingers that have lengthy fingernails. Long, white hair, bleached from salt that is long yet whispy. Like the tendrils of jellyfish floating freely from the scalp. The diver, nerves aflame with enough heat to boil the water around them, their pounding heart louder than their breathing, moves closer.
As the diver slowly circles around, they see barnacles, bite marks, and necrotic flesh. Wrinkled from being submerged for so long. Mold that has grown and started to eat the decaying being, a thin film starting to develop on the scaled tail. They circle around to see the face. Eyes and mouth closed, with a look of pure serenity on its motionless face. The diver, now holding their breath from nerves, reaches out to touch the being. Motionless and serene. Their gloved fingers traces along the pale lips of the creature, gently, as if it is a wet piece of paper that will crumble if handled too roughly.
They stare closely at its face, and as they do, a single, small bubble escapes its lips and flees toward the surface, rapidly putting as much distance between it and the mouth it escaped as possible.
A feeling of dread washes over the diver, and their blood runs colder than the water they swim in. Unable to move, they stare at the face of the creature. Waiting.
Suddenly, the lids of the eyes flash open. Blacker than the void below. Empty, and silent. The mouth opens suddenly, two rows comprised of hundreds of needle-like teeth line its mouth. The eyes lock with the divers, and a shriek emits from the mouth of the creature, shattering the silence of the ocean like a glass pane dropped on cement.
Then everything is silent once more.
