Heâd left Bryce with only a pat on the back: a silent promise theyâll meet up afterward in one piece. Bryce was about the only person here he implicitly trusted. Two members of Bryceâs group splinter off, saying fuck it to whatever plan was in place. It irritates him but itâs to be expected: no real point in laying his trust in so many of the others.
Kane stands back, assessing before heâs running into the scrum, the final once-over of his gun. All gunâs sat comfortably in his grip even if this particular one took more convincing on his part. Something of an âexperimentâ on Evaâs part. The weapon was enchanted. Supposedly it would provide an âendlessâ supply of bullets.  A machete hangs on his hip, another normal gun on his back too because this weapon sounds too good to be true.Â
He has his job and itâs tall, ugly and guarding the fucking gates.Â
Eva talks to herself. A noise he near zones out because she was so constantly muttering to herself. He watches as she pulls something out of her bag, yells, then an explosion that opens the entrance for the others to slip through. It takes longer than the others for his ears to adjust to the bang. A faint ringing easy enough to zone out.
The guards topple over â the one furthest from him quickly gaining the fire of two others â whilst Eva just fucking goes for it. She runs in, yelling like her insults will really go through to that thick lug. Kane canât help the sigh, maybe a slight eye-roll, at her taunting. He jogs forwards. Aiming for its head. Eva keeps it fairly occupied. Bullets ricocheting off it.Â
Kane speeds up at the swing: Eva managing to duck. He leaves her in his peripheral. Stopping and loudly whistling for the guardâs attention: aiming cleaning for the side of its head. He shoots rapid-fire. A loud succession of tings and bangs as they bounce off the helmet.Â
Kane has its attention. He keeps his finger on the trigger, trusting Evaâs enchantment too much. It jams. It fucking jams. âFuck!â he checks the weapon, hitting it with the butt of his hand, backing up as the guardâs turned itâs attention to him. Kane throws it aside, pulls the rifle from his back instead.Â
âEva! Your shit doesnât work!â he shouts, nearly running backward as he aims instead for the arm of the beast, wanting to injure it not just distract it.
A two person attack keeps the guard nicely occupied, like a pair of bear hunting dogs corralling it this way and that. And despite what the âbearâ in this case is - its horrific undead form, gargantuan height, clearly bullet-tough armor - the pair hunting it donât seem intimidated in the slightest.
Eva lands upright from her roll, it appears that the guard is able to swing that huge sword much faster than she had anticipated. While the other guard seems built for thundering strength, this oneâs talent is speed and better dexterity.
Sheâs closer to it than Kane is, she rolled in, purposefully, to get a better look. it turns to Kane and she gets a good view of its back. Nothing. The markings on the armor are not magically binding. She shoots at its knee, that pisses it off but the knee doesnât seem phased, it actually heals. In much the same way its arm does when Kane shoots it. This might disappoint anyone else who faced these creatures, but to Eva itâs a dead giveaway. Sheâs prepared for the quick spin around and angry swing on the sword. Eva does something even she thinks is fucking crazy, she dives and rolls between the guardâs legs, propping up enough to shoot at the knees again. Even though the creature can heal the close range damage is enough so that she can use her natural born telekinetic abilities to shove it backwards. She doesnât need to push all of the way, just enough so that gravity does its job to the hulking mass. She didnât find what she was looking for at his legs or up his skirt. Necromancy required either a steady stream of magic or something that acted like a battery; crystals were the most common batteries in the magical world - And in something like sentinels, were a damn smart choice. They lasted, didnât drain you, and you didnât have to spare them any part of your mind or magic once set. As an added bonus, they could heal themselves, tapping into the magic stored in the crystal that gave them life. One way to take these creatures down was to exhaust the magic of course, chip away at its form until the battery ran out and it was nothing more than rubble. Given the amount of magic the lich (she could be wrong about there being a lich inside but I mean she was 97% sure it was a lich and those are really good odds) had and could afford to power these bad boys up with, thatâd be a stupid fucking way to go about this.
She heard Kane about the gun, and tucks that bit of information away for later, but for now what she needs to do is, âWeâre looking for a crystal! Its under his armor! Destroy it!â She shouts at Kane as she swipes her hands in the air, sheâs undoing straps and pulling at clasps, and it takes enough concentration that she doesnât quite get out of the way of the guardâs legs quick enough, sheâs hooked by his calf and sent flying behind him.
The wind is entirely knocked out of her as she slides in the ice and snow. She is unable to move and she has no idea where her rifle is, but now that isnât important. She aches and feels heavy and disoriented in a way that sheâs not at all used to. Eva might pack a punch but she canât really take one all that well. Sheâs rarely ever had to.
She has to get to Kane, make an opening for him, his hunter strength would take it down, especially now that he knew how. Eva doesnât know how long it takes her to finally get up but it feels like too long, urgency and pain cause her to go quiet. Stumbling upwards she concentrates on breathing and moving forward, sheâs able to sort of half jog now, good, now keep breathing. She maneuvers so that sheâs behind the guard at all times. Kane is keeping it occupied, but its clear now that the crystal is not on its now bare chest. Christ everything feels so heavy. She reaches up and pulls, the invisible force she commands wiggling the helmet, sheâs not close enough, she steps forward and pulls with everything she has, yanking the helmet off of the guardâs head. There, she sees it, the crystal on the back of his head, she reaches for her gun - she doesnât have it, oh no.
The creature whirls around, upset and roaring at his exposure, his sword jabbed forward and easily sinks into Evaâs flesh. She was standing much too close. The only thing she can think to do in her shocked state is hold the sword in place as much as she can with her magic, more for not wanting it to move and cause her more damage than for pausing the creature, regardless, it does pause the creature as it tries to yank it away.
