why are Egyptian actors never casted for Egyptian roles?

Not just Egyptian ngl whenever there is a character that's South West asian or North african they don't cast an actor that's from said country or culture.

Here tho I am particularly talking about Akasha from iwtv. It's not the first time this happens it happened before but I am wondering why it keeps happening? I didn't even know akasha was Egyptian because no one talked about it or talked about how they didn't actually cast an Egyptian person. I researched it myself and then I found out she is Egyptian.

The west always treat swana culture and history as "for everyone" to "honour" and "represent" when that's not the case.

No hate to the actress btw I actually loved her performance and she was one of my favourite things about this season. My issue is with the screenwriters here and how they do representation in general because I do have alot of criticisms on their representation.

Akasha WAS NOT Egyptian, she was from Sumer.

Genetically speaking ancient Egyptian ARE NOT LIKE modern Egyptian, the only "true" Egyptian, genetically speaking, are the copts.

It's nearly impossible today cast a modern Egyptian to play an ancient Egyptian, except for Rami Malek.

Alright my bad. She wasn't an Egyptian even tho she became an Egyptian queen later on. However she is iraqi yet the actress isn't iraqi so I think my point stands. Genetically most Egyptians are coptics but the word coptics later on began being called particularly to Christian Egyptians to seprate and differenciate them from Muslim Egyptians. It's literally just for differentiation but modern day Egyptians are the closest people to ancient Egyptians whether Christians or Muslims.

Not really impossible it is very much possible as Egypt is one of the least diverse countries and Egyptians managed to keep their blood without getting mixed with the people who cane to their lands. It's kinda weird that you saying it's impossible for modern Egyptians to play ancient Egyptians except for that one actor like why??what is your logic here?? My question here for you is if you think modern Egyptians shouldn't play ancient Egyptians then who should?anyone and everyone? Most Egyptians aren't arabs or any of the people that came to their lands and we have only been an arab Republic country since 1971 for political reasons. Modern Egyptians are objectively the closest to ancient Egyptians. And if you think modern Egyptians shouldn't be cast for ancient Egyptians then who should?Everyone? Since you seem fine with anyone and everyone playing an ancient Egyptian character? Do you realise how illogical your point is? Alot of countries have been multiple racial groups but yall only use this talking point for Egyptians.

Imma repeat it again. Modern day Egyptians are the descendents of ancient Egyptians and are the closest to ancient Egyptians. Whatever rhetoric you are spreading is really harmful for us actual Egyptians. You are basically saying everyone but actual Egyptians have the right to play an ancient Egyptian character which is bs. Edit:I was wrong that Akasha is Egyptian she is actually iraqi so my point still stands. She is however an Egyptian queen so if they cast an iraqi or an Egyptian actress it would have been fine(although I still wouldn't like that because it would mean Egyptians and Iraqis are interchangeable which is racist and problematic)

IWTV rant incoming, spoilers for both seasons, be forewarned!

I've been seeing far too much Louis hate online recently, and while I'm of the opinion that none of these vamps are completely innocent by nature, I can't help but notice the disproportionate hate on my boy.

Honestly, it feels a little like fandom racism. And I think AMC IWTV fans have convinced themselves that they're beyond such things because of Jacob and Assad, but idk, everyone turning on the Black one at once seems... yucky?

First, I've seen a lot of "Louis is an abuser". Which... is a wild take on a show where most of the main characters hurt everyone around them?

I think some of it is coming from those who saw the episode in season 2 in which it is revealed that the big fight that Louis and Lestat had in S1 was more even than just Lestat beating up Louis, but y'all... we're not supposed to take S1 as a complete fabrication. A lot of y'all keep saying "oh, we haven't met the real Lestat." Sure, not in person and not from his POV until that ending, but we're not supposed to take it as Louis just lying outright. In the series, different from the books, OUR Louis calls Daniel back in 2022 to give him a more accurate version of the story. In the 1970s, he was just trash-talking Lestat. In 2022, he is remembering Lestat fondly while also remembering all the pain Lestat caused him. He only learns at the end of the season that Armand manipulated some of his memories. And only SOME. We're not supposed to think Armand made Louis misremember everything he and Lestat ever did together. So, we can take S1 as a version of the truth, even if it has some holes or misremembered parts... and in S1, Lestat is a scary guy. When Louis fought him, he was fighting a scary monster. You can't talk about it like he was a human man fighting his human partner because he got a little angry. He was a vampire fighting an even stronger vampire who, as far as Louis knew, was capable of awful things. And Lestat stalked Louis when he was still a human, fed on him without consent, killed the priests Louis turned to in fear... none of that was healthy courtship of a lover. To then turn around and call LOUIS the abuser? That's nuts.

And then there's Armand.

Armand is capable of great physical violence without even lifting a finger. You cannot look at me in the face and tell me that Louis slamming him into a wall was *abuse* after finding out that Armand mindfucked him for 70 years. After y'all saw what Armand did to Daniel. After Armand plotted Louis' death while manipulating Louis into thinking he was loved.

"Louis is an abuser" is a wild take after watching both of those seasons. Louis isn't an innocent princess, either, but compared to the two older vampires, he is the main victim of the story. Both Lestat and Armand emotionally abused him, manipulated him, and physically hurt him, and after all of it, he just ends up alone.

Now, believe me, I love Armand and Lestat. I think they're wonderfully awful people, and so much fun to watch, so fun to love, so fun to hate. But I think so many people left season 2 on their sides completely, just because Louis stood up for himself AND admitted that he was wrong about a lot of what he thought he remembered. And in all honesty, I think a lot of y'all like Sam and Assad because they're hot and... Jacob, while hot, is still Black. With Assad, you can give yourselves the benefit of the doubt because he's still a person of color, but he's a non-black person of color...

And Black people are not afforded softness or innocence, the way non-black people are. So, Louis doing something that's not good makes him not good, even if it's in the context of being a vampire. But Lestat and Armand get "brat prince" and "baby girl" even when they're cruel.

And also, it's not great to put the "abuser" label on someone standing up to their abuser. I dunno. Feels kinda yucky, in that sense, too.

Personally, I try to keep these people's vampire incarnations out of human morality, because being a vampire is inherently immoral because you need to kill to stay alive. So, like, when they physically fight, I can excuse it because they know they can't actually do much harm for the most part, because vampires heal fast and can't be easily hurt. But when... idk, you drop your fledgling from an extreme height, or cut someone's ankles and have them buried in rocks and locked away in a mausoleum... that's actually trying to hurt them (as Lestat admitted.)

And Louis' attempt to kill Lestat was because he and Claudia feared him. None of them disagree with that fact.

Anyway, have the same grace for the Black man that you do for your brat prince. Idk why y'all are trying to make Louis the bad guy. He never even asked to be a vampire. Lestat just wanted to keep him.

mediocre rebel luka comic . hi guys

I made the mistake of joining alien stage TikTok and among a bunch of other questionable takes, a common one is that Hyuna was only exists as an accessory to Luka, and therefore, isn’t well written.

But the reason so much of her character revolves around her love/hate for Luka is because so much of hers character revolves around her love for humanity.

When Hyuna tells Luka to rediscover his humanity in her final monologue, she mentions both “love” and the “pain, fragility, and the moments so unbearably shameful”. Across the series, the casts’ humanity is defined by both their sincere love for one another and the selfish decisions they’re often forced to make. Hyuna’s dying words are one thesis statement for Alien Stage as a whole (the other one being in Karma)—to be human is to suffer, but it’s also to love. That’s why she still loved Luka even after all the pain he caused her. In spite of his self-centeredness, his cruelty, and brutality, she saw good in him. And thus, she saw good in humans as a whole, as messy and cruel and fucked up as they could be.

Also not to get snarky but I rarely see Ivan and Sua being accused of having no character outside of Till and Mizi despite their stories also being heavily centered around their lovers…#interesting

Luka x Hyuna

sua and luka are very similar aesthetically and personality wise, but when you dive into it, there is a clear difference in the way that they crave affection and love in their world.

both luka and sua experience jealousy from different people. sua with her sisters, and luka with heperu and hyunwoo. however, both of these cases are sort of different, which is why they are able to differentiate more. luka craves affection through being more controlling, and sua craves affection but thinks she has to gain it by being passive. why?

luka, from a very young age, taught that if he couldn’t rise to the top, he wouldn’t be worth anything to anyone. if he couldn’t dominate others and have a strive to win, he should die. he should be “grateful” that he was lucky enough to rise above all of his clones. so, of course luka associates love with dominance, because of how heperu abuses him. he wants to feel control over hyuna and his situation, because to him, without it, he’d be worth nothing. ironically, hyuna felt interest towards him because she thought he was someone she could be able to protect.

meanwhile, sua thinks that she has to be passive and submissive to be loved, which is why she is so elusive and quiet around others. when she tries to interact with her sisters that are not hia, she gets pushed away, which to her, means that she cannot be confrontational or else she will be rejected. additionally, with hia projecting onto her, and with nigeh’s obsession with forcing her into femininity, sua thinks that she can only be loved if she’s weak, because that’s all she’s worth. this is what made her relationship with mizi a veil of innocence from everything else, and also why she cannot make friends with others easily.

ironically, this is where their parallels come full circle. because of how they were taught love and how they give love, it hurts those around them, and it fractures their ability to explore their identity more. luka can’t see what he did wrong, because in his eyes, he did exactly what was expected of him to be loved, which is why he shows not a lot of regret about hyunwoo until it slaps him in the face. sua, because of how she was treated, never had faith in herself to be stronger for others, so she chose to die for mizi, because she believed because of her fragility, she was doomed from the beginning.

i wish more people would talk about these parallels. while i do love ivan-mizi-luka parallels, these two are very similar and different in interesting ways.

I saw someone saying the "My daddy vampire groomed me into a little bitch" comment from Louis to Armand is justified because Armand killed Claudia louis' daughter but no the hell it isn't😭. By that point Louis didn't know armand killed claudia or that he was that involved in killing her.(but he did resent him for being involved at all understandably so)so putting that in mind the comment is more than just Louis lashing out that Armand killed claudia. And I am not usually someone who values intentions to judge characters' moralities but Louis' intentions in this context very much matters. Also that comment being said by Louis and Louis weaponising armand's SA in that moment shows alot of interesting stuff about him that I would love to see analysed. I think people should find a middle ground with discussing Louis as a flawed compelling character and not villanising him to the extent of making him Lestat and armand's abusers(basically reversing loustat and loumand's dynamics)

I just in general get uncomfortable whenever Louis,Lestat and even Daniel yes DANIEL'S remarks about armand's SA are justified for various of reasons.
