the delhi police lathi charged and tear gassed protestors on monday and has been doing so everyday since. monday was especially brutal, with videos of cops removing their name tags and hitting children as young as ten and tear gassing children as young as six.

there is also evidence that facial recognition cameras and meta glasses are being used alongside surveillance cameras being scanned with ai. some of these facial recognition cameras have been banned in europe due to privacy concerns and other issues yet the coward modi government tries to track down protestors using this.

protestors and the police have clashed multiple times since monday. video evidence of the police throwing stones and damaging vehicles has emerged, which makes accusations of the same levelled at protestors appear fabricated.

Today is a good day to remember the 1942 Zoot Suit Riots, in which WWII army members and the LA times accused Mexican American men as a unit of sexual assault and gang activity.

Earlier that year, a young Latino man was possibly murdered by an unknown assailant? (LAPD botched the case so bad no one is sure if it was actually murder) and 17 Latino boys were arrested without evidence. They were not given a fair trial, with accusers even going so far as to bring in a sheriff to claim Mexican people had a biological need for violence. Activists who helped get the case thrown out and the accused men released were investigated for communism.

US soldiers, cops, and white vigilantes used this as an excuse to violently attack Angelinos with Latino, Black, and Filipino heritage. These attacks especially targeted young men wearing the counter culture zoot suit, which they saw as a sign of gang membership and who soldiers believed flew in the face of fabric rationing. Media suppressed the truth. No soldiers were arrested but 500+ People of Color were. The MEXICAN EMBASSY had to intervene, finally leading to investigations. Some scholars call it a program against the Mexican American Community.

It was not to prevent the spread of drugs, it was to funnel Black people into prison and permanently curtail voting rights, to keep a provisional Jim Crow that could deflect criticism long enough to get the average white moderate to accept it, and to make the average white liberal’s dreams of “reform” still include the same framework.

Felons can’t vote because certain drug crimes were labeled felonies, because those drug crimes could be pinned on Black people and passed by or reduced to a misdemeanor on whites. Because you could cite the amount of (drug) felonies in an area (Black neighborhood) and assign more cops, militarized cops (why it was called a “war”), because you could claim random searches of suspicious individuals (Black people, including children) were necessary. The war on drugs worked. It was never about the fucking drugs.
