the silence stretches between them for the length of a heartbeat as she waits to see what the other will do . it BREAKS audibly with the curse falling from the blonde’s lips & & alice allows the tension between shoulder blades to loosen . ( like it or not , they need digger ) .
❝ i’ve got the badge & & the gun , remember ? ❞ she snaps , placing heavy hand on the butt of her weapon for EMPHASIS .

The girl was just trying to shift onward to a brighter side of things: the new settlement was well guarded, people were getting along — yet here was that DREAD that loomed over every shoulder for years still clinging like a leech. Aloy was…TIRED, tired of looking over her shoulder, tired of counting the many ways she could’ve died, tired of the fear.
But, Alice being the elder of her, might as well have been looking out for the orphaned teen: like always.
she manages brief smile , grateful for the optimistic outlook as it’s warranted , before reassuring the other , ❝ just keep a sharp eye . ❞
their surroundings aren’t silent as they should be , not with the sounds of the world reawakening around them . there’s more people wandering the streets , cautious and skeletal . they serve as a reminder of what’s left .
❝ c’mon . ❞ she motions for aloy to follow her . ❝ we still have a few kliks to go before we can rest . ❞ ( she does sort of sound like a drill sergeant , doesn’t she ? ) she doesn’t know HOW TO LIVE WITHOUT WAR .

Ada turns her head, examining their environment. It’s crowded. It’ll take time for the beast to wipe everything out of its way, longer than it’ll take for them to weave through any obstruction. She searches for flammable mediums. Things that could explode.
Before she has time to identify, the hulking beast charges towards them like a bull.
“Good luck,” Ada smirks, and she pops a few bullets at it, running, ribbons fluttering after her towards a large bus.
❝ exactly . ❞ her tone holds humor , but expression remains as VACANT AS ALWAYS — energy reserved for concentration among muscles used to fight .

When alien life entered our world, it was from deep beneath the Pacific Ocean.
August 11, 2013 at 0700, the first kaiju raged from the sea and devastated San Francisco. Code-named Trespasser, it took 3 nuclear bombs to put down . This was known as “K-Day”. Five months later, The Breach hurled out another kaiju – this time nearly destroying Manila before it too was nuked to cinders . The third hit Cabo. Then the fourth, and we learned: this was not going to stop. This was just the beginning.
We needed a new weapon. The inception of the Pan Pacific Defense Corps (PPDC) came out of the global desperation to save humanity. The Jaeger program, propositioned by Germany, Australia, and Japan, was a way to fight back without covering destroying earth itself. The world pooled its resources and created monsters of their own: giant humanoid mechas called JAEGERS designed for dual-pilot capabilities. These machines, equipped with the latest weapons and defensive technologies finally gave the humans a fighting chance against this unprecedented alien invasion.
Jaeger pilots , known as Rangers , became SAVIORS to the world . Brave men and women from every country , every background , every culture laid down their differences to give each other the best chance for survival . These people were among the millions of others who, despite the terror and carnage left by these alien beings, believed that the Corps’ thirty-story tall, mass weapons could give them the best hope to preserve the human species.
The fight is far from over and The Breach spits out Kaijus faster than humans can build Jaegers. The tide has turned and humanity looks to be standing on its last legs. With the destruction of the miracle mile off Anchorage, Alaska and staggering losses of Jaegers and Rangers alike, the PPDC realized they were grossly outmatched.
Phase 1: By 2025 , the PPDC are threatening to shut down the Jaeger program , shipping the remaining few Jaegers to the Hong Kong Shatterdome , the only base left standing. These Jaegers and their pilots are the last line of defense against global extinction.
Phase 2: By 2030, the Jaeger program has earned worldwide recognition once again for their valiant efforts and the PPDC start commissioning Jaegers to be built, along with new pilots to be trained, etc.
