Why we need to rethink capitalism after the coronavirus pandemic?

By reason of  to build a better world that works for EVERYONE, not just the privileged. I believe it is very important for countries recognize that there are some essential services that need to be provided in terms of healthcare, in terms of education, in terms of good governance, in terms of social safety that cannot be compromised on.

This is a virus that doesn’t respect borders. It crosses borders. And as long as it is in full strength in any part of the world it’s affecting everybody else. So this requires global cooperation to deal with it.

Countries will have to find ways of raising revenues and progressive taxation could be one form of it. Solidarity tax may be needed in some countries. Nature strikes in ways that we cannot imagine. And we’ve seen one and climate change could be even worse. So we have to prepare for that.

This society service information website has a big responsibility in that has well to be pushing the rest button and looking at how to create well being for people and for the Earth.

So the question is, how do we get to a more planet-friendly way of doing economic activity?

What’s needed is to ramp up production of alternative forms of energy. Second, to have infrastructure that’s much more climate-friendly. In both these measures, the public sector can play a very big role.

A podcast from Tony Robbin has changed all my perspective and catalyst. All the single decisions that have been made so far in my life.

"I wish, I wish, I wish".

Tony Robbin said. "What do you want to do in your life but you're scared?" 

Afraid of that, afraid of this. Afraid of all things. And he says, our brain is wired to protect us. Because the brain evolution is pretty much the same as it was thousands of years ago. Which is flight and protection mode.

Flight mode.

Let's say we saw a snake inside the house. And we were alone at that time. Most likely we will turn on flight mode. We will run away, and ask for help.

Protection mode.

But what if our family is also inside the house. Most probably we are not going to use flight mode. We are going to use mode protection. We will stay, and make sure the snake is within our sight. Then we call for help.

Why? Because we have family to protect. Family is bigger than us, alone. Same with our brains. The way we react to either flight or protect, depends on our upbringing has been raised by the family in which way. If we grew up in a state of complete equality, and suddenly we lose something, we get anxious.

Just like young people today,  many people already have lost their job because of the economic recession, but they are still afraid and fear of doing something new or making a change for the sake of their lives, because of what? Because you limit yourself in fear. One of it is by doing business to earn extra income.

Why are you afraid to do a business? Comfort zone.

True.

For years we are in our comfort zone and our brain is pretty much hardwired to maintain everything that we have. So when we have an idea that makes us uncomfortable, our brain will send flight and protect signals.

“Don’t trouble yourself”

“Is it doesn’t enough for you to have what we have today? Just be grateful”

“Why do you need to make yourself feel tired and exhausted? What we have now is more than enough  . "

And lastly, it makes we agree with all of this kind of mindset. For us to change someone by saying that you are too comfortable, you don’t want to take the risk, you do not want to be a successful person, each one of these things can not change anything. Unless there is an external stimulus. Cognitive dissonance.

For example sudden loss of income, death, bankruptcy etc. Then our brain will try to break the belief that we say ‘we are in a comfortable situation.’ This is why I don't like the idea of ​​"Big why." Unless you see it, you feel it, you can touch it, your belief won't change

Then when we were 40, 50, 60. Of course you don't want to look back and say...

"I wish I did this ..."

“I wish I started my business 20 years ago ..”

"I wish .."

So don’t be afraid to step a bit out of your comfort zone. Yeah, of course it is nice to be comfortable and to know what is going to happen. At the same time, it’s not all that it’s cracked up to be and if you’re one of those people who always takes comfort over anything else that comes your way, then you’re probably missing out on some great opportunities and chances to live.

Malaysia have received around 700,000 or more Rohingya people that fled for safety from their origin country, Myanmar. They received threats and were ushered out by the Myanmar’s army itself.

As such events occur, Florida in US have been continuing to record WWE shows despite the danger of covid-19 while UFC, another american martial arts has announced to open “Fight Island” where they would host fight championship.

Medicines

Doctors play a crucial role during these times; with COVID-19 at rise, causing World Health Organization to alarm the global citizens with pandemic alert. Hence, many laymen are seeking help from doctor’s consultation alone to prevent any harm.

Prescription drugs.

Drugs that could only be achieved by doctor’s prescription and affected countries are witnessing a boost in vitamin pills, supplements that claimed to boost the immune system. Allegedly, it could increase effort in preventing COVID-19 infection.

But recently, it has been uncovered that doctors’ prescription are not actually accurate. Although doctors should be prescribing medicines that truly solve the symptoms, they have been admittedly receiving money (or rewards) in recommending these pills - which defeats the purpose.

In 2011, 70% of US population takes at least 1 prescription pill while around 50% of them takes 2 prescription pills which in total accumulates to 4.02 billion prescriptions has been given out.

In 2013 only, US saw rise to prescription drug’s market, giving them huge profit.

This is a clever marketing strategy for US market. They bombarded citizens’ media with pharmaceutical advertisements and state their products with exaggerated claims. For example, tested by dermatologist is completely different to recommended by dermatologist.

Furthermore, this technique has spread to our local market.

This does not mean that supplements are entirely bad to fight against covid virus, but take it with a grain of salt. Increasing our immunity system does not entirely make us invincible to covid virus.

The only way we can totally become invincible is when we have discovered a vaccine.

It has been stated at bloomberg that the country's statistics department expects us to face recession within 6 months from now. When this news comes out, it means we need to be prepared from now on and what we need to do based on what's gonna happen to the country’s economy. 

Before we elaborate in more detail, everyone needs to know what recession is, so basically recession is a term used to tell the economic slowdown. Economic downturn can occur at the national, group, or global level. In the present case, recession takes place globally. 

Metrics GDP decline growth, for example we have achieved Q1 is 3.5% but in Q2 we are only 2.7% and worse if it drops until negative. 

So where does each country play a role in slowing the recession?

There are 2 ways:

- Stimulus packages like BPN that provide cash for the people to keep spending and cash flow within the country

- Interest rates are reduced, to encourage many to make loans

Nevertheless, it is necessary to know that these low stimulus packages and interest rates are just a relief if we cannot control our spending when cash is in our hand. In fact, we need to know that when people predict the recession of this factor as a metric.

○   Unemployment Rate

That is why our country frees 605,000 of our unemployed people and has to be fired. This does not include unpaid leave and deductions.

When this happens, they create the possibility of becoming one of the other tax deductions. 

Logically, when tax collection is low, then the country is deprived of income and out comes the report that the country is losing income.

This effect also comes with many businesses will survive and those who do not have strong finances will fall into bankruptcy.

So as individuals, what are the things we need to be prepared?

So as individuals, what are the things we need to be prepared?

1. Upgrade your skills

This time is the perfect time for you to upgrade your skills, join any class that can improve your knowledge and skills. 

Take an air conditioning (HVAC) professional class, learn graphic design, apply for a GDL license, get an insurance agent license. This is all for a backup plan incase if anything happens as we all are experiencing now, our country’s economy is down, many people got fired without any provision skills.

2. Focus on skills

Point above is about focusing on skill upgrades or skills. But at this point, we need to identify our skills. Find your area of expertise that can be used when in this situation.

What I mean is, if you are experts in car repair and automotive, then master those skills so that you are able to make them one of your sources of income. Your target and focus is on the people who are closest to you. So indirectly, that would be another source of income for you.

Well, who knows someday you will finally be able to open your own business store that you already have mastered in that skill.

 There are several ways I can suggest for additional resources;

● If your writing is good, be a part-time copywriter from home. For merchants ad writing fees (high demand) 

● If you have the skills to do fb ads, ig ads, content, editing. Try making it a module to create a teaching class. The demand for this technical skill is quite high.

● If you have the equipment for cleaning, cutting or you can provide washing and folding services. During the MCO you can offer this service, because not many people are willing to do it.

● Become an affiliate agent for other people's businesses, and earn commissions by selling people's products. No capital, just use the referral link. Find the right business and you will have the basic knowledge to facilitate marketing.

3. Mental Preparation

This one is not from a seminar class. But i think it is important for everyone. Many people are too comfortable with the position. But when the memo suddenly comes out with 24-hour notice, at that moment you will be very anxious. In today's situation, you need to be mentally prepared, so just prepare your mind in every situation. In order to avoid the case of bridge plunge such as happened in Pulau Pinang, because of the financial problems. 

So if you are ready for the worst case scenario and you have a back up plan, Inshallah you will be at ease. 

4. Set up an online business 

Starting a business can be very exciting. But it’s important to do your homework, and take measured, meticulous steps. Start small and take incremental steps one day at a time. 

Here are few things you should consider before starting a business; 

ⅰ. If you are working from 8-5 am, do not make a decision to leave your current job and continue by doing a full-time business. You need to start with part time to find out more about the business environment you haven't been used to yet.

ⅱ. Start with minimal capital. If not impossible, you don’t have to spend any direct capital at all. Just need to use your time and energy. Examples of being dropship to people's products. If you are fortunate, probably you will get some free knowledge from the product's founders. 

ⅲ. You must be prepared to not get much profit for at least 6 months to 1 year. Don't expect millions when you are just starting a business.

ⅳ. Be teachable. Even if you are a graduate in phd marketing and so on, don't be too confident thinks that you can survive in the business world. Studying in a book is not like a real situation. If you have more capital, do not miss the opportunity to learn with a teacher that has a proven result. Not a coach scammer.

Therefore, your side income can be your personal safety net against unemployment. Job security is really a thing of the past, and you should be prepared to lose that income at any time. If you do have an emergency fund, your side income will also make that fund last a lot longer.

Following the Covid-19 outbreak, unemployment in the country has increased. The survey found that nearly 100,000 Malaysians lost their jobs due to the fact that the company was unable to pay and cope due to the covid outbreak 19 and the Movement Control (MCO) were enforced which has affected our country’s economy both financially and investment. 

Undoubtedly, when there is an economic crisis, the first to be impacted will be jobs. This crisis is health-related and because the country is under MCO, things cannot move, so more people will be unemployed.

However, when this happens many people are desperate for new jobs. Therefore, we should know how and what preparation we need to focus on to be accepted by the job. This is due to many people not knowing how to distinguish themselves from other candidates. 

The first important thing is, use social media wisely. Because yes, you can actually find the career of your dreams by using your phone. There are some of the best social networking sites you can use to enhance your career and boost your job search.

Here are the tips that I will be sharing about using social media to get hired.

LinkedIn is a social network that focuses on professional networking and career development. You can use LinkedIn to display your resume, search for jobs, and enhance your professional reputation by posting updates and interacting with other people. Unlike other social networks in which you might become “friends” with anyone and everyone, LinkedIn is about building strategic relationships.

Over 65 million professionals from different countries use LinkedIn to cultivate their careers and businesses. The question is, how to market yourself on LinkedIn?

Take a look at the statistics of Linkedin users in Malaysia.

As of March 2020, there are approximately 5.41 million Linkedin users in the country.

Of those, 88.5% of users are under 34. While 10.5% are between 35 and 54 years old. Users over 55 are less than 1%.

What can we “read” from the data above?

The majority of consumers (eight out of 10) are those who are looking for a job (after graduating or switching to a new job at the beginning of their career). Therefore, it is not surprising that most posts on Linkedin Malaysian consumers revolve around the job search experience. Many also write about their first job or move on. Meanwhile, some even load full resumes.

Is this way wrong? No. Is this the best way for someone to do “personal branding” and market themselves to potential employers? I think, no.

What is the best way to “market” yourself on LinkedIn. I'll give you five tips ✎

1. First, get the right audience

For example, if you want to develop a career in food technology, build an audience network within the industry. Get connections from industry practitioners, recruitment managers, academics, professional organizations, trade associations, journalists, and graduates of the same industry.

Is there no connection between them outside the industry? Sure, you just don't have to be too crowded. Do not limit them to Malaysia only but also abroad (overseas). The right audience is important. This way you will be more visible to them.

2. Secondly, put a headline that has a value offer

Headlines like “Fresh graduate seeking/looking for jobs” sound desperate. 

Instead, write a headline that contains value propositions.Take a look at these headlines. “Recent graduate with in-depth knowledge of HACCP, GMP, Halal, MESTI, and other food safety / quality systems.”

Which headlines are most appealing to an audience looking for additional staff?

3. Third, share knowledge in your field

Post in your field. You can create an original post or share another article with a few comments. If you don't know what to write, take a look at articles in your industry that are trending on Linkedin.

If no one clicks "like" or "share" your posts are fine. That was the beginning. What is important is that you present yourself to the audience as someone trained in the field. This is what “personal branding” means. Make posts once or twice a week.

4. Fourth, the comments of the audiobooks are mainly industry practitioners

Again, the purpose of your comment is to make it visible to them. After a few times you comment, they'll see your profile. They will try to get to know you. 

However, avoid comments like words like “Agree.” Or just, “Congratulations.” 

If you agree, state what you agree to. Please provide a plus value. If you want to say congratulations, state why you say congratulations. For example, “Congratulations on your appointment as the CEO of ABC Sdn Bhd.” If you can add another sentence or two later, that's good.

And also, please use full spelling and correct grammar.

If you comment on the Malaysian wall, feel free to comment with Mr, Mrs, Mrs, Dato, Prof, Dr, Mr, Ms or Ms. If you comment on an overseas wall (example: United States), you can call them by first name, without Prof or Dr.

5. Fifth, Linkedin updates all the time

Make sure you log on to Linkedin at least two or three times a week. Not only when you are looking for a job but also when you are working. Linkedin is a platform for you to interact and collaborate with those in the industry. 

─ Keep your information up to date. Put the right email for easy contact.  ─ Always use the soft selling strategy on Linkedin. ─ Do the right branding and brand positioning. ─ Reach the right audience.
