NEXT PROJECT
We're excited to announce a brand new project happening in collaboration with two of our good friends, Finn Barrett and Will Commerford. Together, they have written an engaging performance piece that will cause you to question both art and life.
The show is called It's Recess Time. It has been described (by us) as such:
Two young boys full of pure chaos and self destruction are spawned into a universe that operates on the theory of circular time. They have no parents, no social constructs, and no direction or clear sense of what is right and wrong. The boys never age and are doomed to encounter the same obstacles and repeat their mistakes every day, never growing beyond their conspicuous flaws. The boys can only escape this arduous universe by cultivating the motivation to better themselves and to exercise their waning humility. The ideas and themes expressed are based on what co-writer Finn Barrett views as negative and undesirable aspects of his own character and worldview. Itâs Recess Time heightens and exaggerates these ideas to the absolute extreme; forcing audience members to question whether they are innocent bystanders or willing participants in the perpetuation of this chaotic realm.
Part theatre performance, part sound installation, part interactive sculpture extravaganza, this show will make you question your ideas about performance art and possibly even life itself.
There will be three performances. Friday August 26th at 7:00 pm, Saturday August 27th at 7:00 pm, and Sunday August 28th at 7:00 pm.
Tickets are $10.00 and available online at http://www.itsrecesstime.bigcartel.com
The show contains strong language, violence, and crude visuals. Viewer discretion is advised.

The two will discuss such topics as Joshuaâs musical inspirations, what itâs like to be a full-time touring musician, grass-roots marketing, how growing up in Vero Beach helped to shape his artistic tastes, the pros and cons of isolation, the kindness of strangers, socio-political norms and the benefits of challenging them, Christianity, literature, drone warfare, pacifism, and more. Audience questions will be fielded as well.
***OPEN CALL FOR VISUAL ARTISTS***

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Vero Beach, Florida - August 12th, 2015
Local Alternative Art Space Curates Series of Short Films Co-founder and artist of Project Space 1785, Jared Thomas, curates an evening of screenings from filmmakers across the United States.
On September 4th, 2015 at 7:00 PM, Project Space 1785, a contemporary art venue located on Old Dixie Highway in Vero Beach will be hosting a film screening. The event will consist of five short films made by filmmakers from across the country. These films, curated by the spaceâs co-founder Jared Thomas, represent a variety of genres and approaches to filmmaking.
The evening will begin at 7:00 PM with a short introduction during which concessions will be available for purchase. The first film will be shown promptly at 8:00 PM. Each film is approximately fifteen minutes in length and there will be a ten minute intermission between films where the audience will have the opportunity to discuss their thoughts about the work. Audience members are encouraged to attend the event from beginning to end, but latecomers will be admitted to the space between films if there are empty seats available. The event is free, however PS1785 will graciously accept donations at the door.
Tainted in Red, directed by Jess Weiss is a classic example of Film Noir. Shot in black and white and utilizing dramatic lighting techniques, the film portrays a handsome detective who is hired by Rebecca Normond to investigate her husbandâs suspicious activities. Jess currently lives and works in New York City in various positions within the film and television industry.
Eidos, directed by LJ DâArpa is a simple yet haunting portrayal of a blind artist who is desperately attempting to sculpt the face of his dying mother. The film is mostly silent, containing just one single line of dialogue. LJ currently lives and works in New York City as a member of the art department for film and television. In September, he will move to Bosnia to attend Bella Tarrs Film School.
Donald and Jess, directed by Paul Briganti is a comedic character study. The film focuses on a lonely plumber named Donald and his unexpected attraction to Jess whose faucet he has come to fix. Things get interesting when Jessâ boyfriend arrives back at home after a three day business trip. Donald and Jess was an official selection at SXSW 2015. Paul Briganti has directed films and videos for MTV, College Humor, TruTV, Comedy Central, and more. He lives and works in Los Angeles, CA.
This Is She, directed by Tarik Karam is a film about a young woman moving into a new apartment. In the process of unpacking, she notices a mysterious growth on her wall that seems to move without warning. She tries unsuccessfully to hide it with various wall hangings before eventually finding a way to confine and interact with it before it disappears altogether as quickly as it came. Tarik is a filmmaker based in New York and Los Angeles. From 2006 to 2011, he worked side by side with director Stephen Daldry, co-producing and Second Unit directing the Oscar nominated films The Reader and Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.
A Long Walk, directed by Chinonye Chukwu is a gripping narrative drama that begins innocently enough with a group of young boys playing basketball. Their game is interrupted by an unusual sight that eventually leads to an unfortunate tragedy. Based on true events, this film is a brilliant exploration of friendship, identity, and regret. Chinonye is the Assistant Professor of Motion Pictures at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, where she teaches courses in screenwriting and directing in the Department of Theatre, Dance and Motion Pictures. She is a recipient of the prestigious Princess Grace Award and Princeton Hodder Fellowship.
Project Space 1785 (PS1785) is a multi-disciplinary arts venue located in Vero Beach, FL. The space was founded in January of 2015 by a small collective of artists in collaboration with the space's building owner, Neli Santamarina. Together, their goal is to provide an accessible space for the community to view and participate in various forms of creative and artistic expression. PS1785 is primarily interested in facilitating projects rooted in experimentation which aim to challenge the conventions of contemporary art and culture in order to push the boundaries of what we feel capable to create, both as individuals as well as members of a larger global network.

Local Artist Collecting Strangers Through Photography
Vero Beach female skateboarder turned photographer collaborates with new alternative art space, Project Space 1785 for a two-part solo exhibition On Wednesday, April 8th from 7 to 10 PM, local artist Taylor Beatty will be hosting a portrait photoshoot titled A Collection of Strangers at Project Space 1785 (1785 Old Dixie Hwy, Vero Beach, Florida, 32960). Taylor is encouraging members of the community to attend and have their photo taken. The resulting 35mm film photos will then be developed, processed, and shown in her solo exhibition by the same name at Project Space 1785 (PS1785) on Saturday, May 2nd at 7 PM. Taylor Beatty, a 24 year old artist from Vero Beach, recently returned to her hometown after living in Long Beach, California for two years where she moved to pursue her skateboarding and art career. While there, she was welcomed into a thriving skateboarding community, making numerous skateboarding video appearances and competing in several invitationals around the United States. Now back in Florida, she has directed her focus to photography. Gravitating toward human subjects, she aims to capture moments in time and document her life experiences through still images. Her primary medium is 35mm film. She enjoys the thrill of shooting photos without the ability to immediately review them. She explains, "When I get a roll of film developed, it's exciting to see the results and how they may or may not represent my original intention. That process can be either exhilarating or devastating." Her work can be found online at www.taylorleighbeatty.wordpress.com Project Space 1785 is a multidisciplinary art venue located in Vero Beach, Florida whose mission is to facilitate artist-centered experimentation and collaboration to initiate conversation on the topic of contemporary art and culture. Their inaugural group exhibition, titled Immediate Delay was well received and featured photography, video, and installation artwork by four Vero Beach based artists who, along with local business owner Neli Santamarina, created the space in January 2015. For more information about this two-part exhibition please contact co-founder and curator James Ruby Barsalou (951.640.6758 /[email protected]).
