Mahfirüze Hatice, sometimes called Mahfirüz or Mah-ı Feyrüz, was the first consort of Ahmed I and the mother of his firstborn, the future Osman II. In some sources she is given as the mother of Gevherhan Sultan, Şehzade Bayezid and Şehzade Hüseyin as well.
Nothing else is known about her; there are several theories about her life after the birth of Osman but historians can’t seem to agree on one. According to Peirce, she fell into disfavour and was banished from the palace at some point. She was alive when her son became sultan but did not become Valide Sultan; she died in 1620. Uluçay is of the opinion that she did in fact act as Valide Sultan and died in 1620 but the document he cites as source does not talk about this. Tezcan, who writes way later, theorises that Mahfirüze actually died by 1610 at the latest, maybe after the difficult birth of a girl (possibly Gevherhan Sultan).
Mahfirüze Hatice was buried in the sanctuary of Eyüp at the behest of her son Osman II.
