"You know what?" she asked, dramatically adding a moment of silence before continuing. "So can I."
James chuckled. "You're a little tease.", he muttered, tightening his embrace. "I've been waiting for this for quite a while.", the boy finished with a content sigh.

She grinned at him triumphantly, running a hand through her hair, much like she’d seen him do all the time.
"Much better, love."
It was lovely to watch Lily run her hand through her hair almost as if she was imitating him. "I think I can get used to this..", James whispered, referring not only to the new nickname, but also to the new stage in their relationship.
"Yeah, like I believe that one," she rolled her eyes, giving him a playful peck on the cheek. "James Potter, not lie? How ever did half your pranks ever get done?"
"Okay, okay. I can't lie to you. Better?"
"It is true, however. I cannot tell a lie."
"Neither can I, Evans.", he shrugged, still smirking a bit.
"It’s not cocky if it’s true, Potter."
"And what if it isn't?"
"Yes and those moments are whenever you agree with me. See how it works?"
"Ha! Someone's getting cocky here, huh?", James snorted.
"That’s because I’m always right." She grinned broadly, snuggling up against him, loving the way his hands felt in her hair.
"Oi, let's not go there, okay?", he poked her side, grinning like a dork. "I've got my moments too.", James raised an eyebrow, smiling mischievously.
Lily laughed at his pouting, at his words.
"Cute isn’t the word I’d use to describe you, Potter." She turned to look at him, so there chests were touching.
"Arrogant, definitely a words I’d use. As well as egotistical. And attractive, yes, you’re attractive." She traced her fingers along his skin, walking them up and down. "Clever. And handsome. And fit. All words I’d use. Cute? Not so much."
His pout turned into a wide smirk as Lily spoke. "I guess I like your description much better.", James muttered, tugging a strand of Lily's red hair behind her ear.

"What’s it gonna be, Marls?"
"I suppose that’s true." She said to both statements, looking back to the road. After a few hours of driving, she pulled into a gas station in a small town. It was getting dark, and she was starving. "D’you understand muggle money?" she asked James, pulling out her wallet and holding it out to him.
James knew almost nothing about the muggle currency in England. Pounds, wasn't it? "We'll end up poor if you trust me with money.", he raised his hands, as if he was telling Marls he had no fault in this.

"What’s it gonna be, Marls?"
"Sorry," she chuckled, realizing how annoying she must have sounded. A broad grin spread across her lips. "How come you never told me before? That’s wicked." she said, glancing over at James briefly. "What kind of music do you usually listen to?" she asked.
"You never asked me.", he shrugged. "A little bit of everything, I guess.. I'm not that picky with songs. I'll just listen to whatever I like. Bands aren't that important.",James stated. Yes, he had some musical guilty pleasures. Marlene didn't need to know that though.
"You’re not that much taller than me!" she pouted. At her fullest height, she stood at 5’7"—James was a good five inches taller, give or take.
"Besides, you were cuter when you were eleven."
"Oi! I'm a hell of a lot cuter nowadays!", James pouted, acting like a ten-year-old boy with a hurt ego. How come he wasn't that cute anymore?! That was simply inacceptable.
Lily had tried to ignore all the looks but she had to look up when James mentioned it. “Both?” she smiled nervously. “I’m not that used to people looking at me. I hate attention.” she mumbled.
She chewed absentmindedly on her toast. “I guess you’re used to it though.”
"A little bit.", James shrugged. After so many years as a Marauder and as an actually talented Quidditch player had given him some kind of status in the school. People tended to stare and whisper and he would just not give a single fuck about them. However, it was important if it bothered Lily. "They'll stop staring. Eventually. We're just fresh news. Once they get tired of us, they'll stop gossiping.", Prongs smiled reassuringly.
