Making History

The kids nodded. Marie was fixing her blonde locks into an elegant updo, while Harry was looking for his belt and charming his shoes shiny. 

James smiled faintly to his wife. Her expression said it all to him; after so many years together, it was obvious to him that she was worried. He grabbed her by the elbow lightly, leading her to the door. “What’re you so worried about? Everyone already loves you. You just need to be yourself, that’s what got you elected.” His wife had won by a landslide, and it was obvious that the English witches and wizards were very happy with her as Minister. 

He glanced down at her, tilting his head. “C’mon, Lil, relax. You’re going to be fine. You look beautiful…”

James must’ve seen her expression because he quickly pulled her to the side to fix it. Of course, telling her she had nothing to worry about didn’t help when she knew just how significant this ball was. As minister, she wasn’t allowed screw ups. She just wasn’t. A bad party would be translated by that Skeeter lady as “the beginning of a downward spiral.” 

Still, she took a deep breath, if for James’s sake. “Every year, the party’s all fancy and over-the-top and…we haven’t had a party like that since our wedding. And our mums planned that.” Lily bit her lip, looking up at him. “What if I just hid in the kid’s room the entire time? Could I do that?” The would be less pressure. All you had to do to entertain children was tell silly stories. At him shaking his head, she just let out a sigh. 

“Will you help me be all proper and posh?”

James smirked, sliding his hand down to hers before squeezing. “And why would you think I know how to be anymore posh and proper than you do, hm?” he asked, glancing up at her. 

Taking a breath, he tucked a stray hair from her face. “You’re going to be fine. All you have to do is be announced- the kids and I will all be there with you- and then we’ll greet people. I won’t leave your side if you want.” He knew that would relax her, and sure enough, her expression was immediately better. 

“They’re all here for you, so just smile and greet them.”

Making History

Lily had only been minister for two months, but she was already being revered as one of the best ministers since the 1800′s. Her first week into office, she passed an education bill that made it mandatory for all students to have muggle studies their first three years of school. A month later, she got 3,000 signatures on her petition to review the Wizengamot for corruption. Of course, she had opposition, but Lily wouldn’t let it bother her. She had to make the world better for her children. 

Tonight was the Annual Ministry Christmas Ball. Traditionally held in the minister’s house. Not their personal home, that is, the house provided by the magical government for the minister and their family to live during their term. Lily, however, disliked the huge estate and when she could stayed in Godric’s Hollow. Unfortunately, the ball had to be held somewhere and Lily wasn’t about to open her house to the entire magical government.

Pinning her hair in place, she spun around to check on James, Harry, and Marie. “Are you all ready? Are your bags packed for staying over? Anyone need help tucking in shirts or curling hair?” 

She was so anxious. Despite her victories in the position, Lily wanted to impress the rest of the ministry. If she couldn’t host a proper ball, how could she run a country?

Well, I suck again. I thought I’d be on more this summer, but the two online classes have taken way more of my free time than I thought. 

I mean, I guess this little booger is also to blame...

I’m hoping puppy pictures will make a good apology post haha.

So. Some idiot (*cough, cough* Me) decided it would be good to take a Maymester class, and I am currently drowning in a daily four hour class with 50+ pages of reading every night. I'll be back in the end of May, though you may get the occasional response when I begin to go crazy from the amount of work. In June, the idiot decided to take two internet classes instead, so I will be on, probably spamming you with pictures of my new puppy. Love you guys!

James smiled faintly, hesitating slightly before grabbing her hand. “Down to the kitchens then,” he murmured, pulling out of the common room. He smiled back at her before returning to their comfortable conversation. 

“What’s on your mind, Lily Evans?”

Lily laughed at his question. What was on her mind? For the most part, it was still hung up on Benjy Fenwick, to tell the truth, but that wasn’t really a pleasant conversation right now. “Well, James Potter,” she started, racking her brain for anything to discuss. “I’m thinking we’ve become partners in crime. Sneaking out past curfew to get some food…”

James laughed, nodding. "Who would have thought Lily Evans would ever be my friend, let alone a partner in crime?" He grinned to her. "I suppose so though. Welcome to the dark side of Gryffindor."

James grinned. “We go in a classroom and write out drills and plays,” he replied, shrugging. “Sometimes we polish brooms. Mostly stuff that needs to get done but doesn't’ when the weather’s nice?”

Lily laughed, nodding at his explanation. “So you just..do housekeeping? That sounds an awful lot like most prefect meetings.” In them, they just organized all the write ups and house points then scheduled the next rounds, who was on duty overnight and stuff like that. When actually on duty, they had a lot more work.

James laughed softly, shaking his head. “Not very often. Our practices are much more interesting than your meetings, thank you,” he teased, nudging her. 

“Now,” he said, clearing his throat. “What do you say to a run to the kitchens? I missed dinner, and I’m starving. Come with me?”

She laughed at his little nudge. “They probably are,” she agreed. When he mentioned food, her stomach gurgled as if on cue. Okay, so she may or may not have been hoping to eat with Benjy tonight. When he didn’t respond, she was freaking out a little too much to notice her hunger. But now that she was calmer, she noticed. “Yes please!” Lily hopped up, holding out her hand for James.

Lily smiled into his shoulder. In his arms, it was like everything she was worried about melted away. He was there for her, he was always taking care of her. She loved him. Not in the same way as she loved Benjy, no, but as a friend. “Thank you for everything.” Lily smiled up at him. “So…how was practice?”He had his uniform on.

“What?’ he asked distractedly before glancing down at his uniform. “Oh, right. Yeah, it was okay. We just work on drills.” He sighed softly, gesturing to the rain outside. “We were supposed to have the pitch, but it was a little…wet outside.” Usually, he made them practice rain or shine, but he didn’t want anyone getting sick before their big game.

Lily smiled to him, propping her chin up on her hands. “So, what do you do when you don’t have practice outside?” She didn’t understand how a team could practice without really practicing.

James nodded faintly, glancing up at her. “Yeah,” he agreed. “Though I’m not sure that’s true. He-he could love you.” Merlin, he had to get over her. Yes, her boyfriend could love her, and there was nothing he could do about it!

She bit her lip, nodding slightly. “He could, but I don’t think he does.” Lily leaned into his side, breathing shakily. “James? Thank you for being here for me, thank you for being my best friend. I don’t know where I’d be without you.”

James nodded curtly, hugging her tighter to comfort her. “Of course, Lily,” he whispered, smiling faintly. “I’ll always be here for you.” He wasn’t sure if he was fool for running to help the girl he loved every time she needed him, and he knew it would only leave him hurt. He loved her though, and it was worth it to make her happy.
