People's Denial of Noah's Message

Story of Noah (PBUH), part 2

Chapter 7: Al-Araf (The Heights), Verse 59-64

We sent Noah to his people. He said: "O my people! worship Allah! you have no other god but Him. I fear for you the punishment of a dreadful day! -7:59

The leaders of his people said: "Ah! we see you evidently wandering (in mind)." -7:60

He said: "O my people! No wandering is there in my (mind): on the contrary I am a messenger from the Lord and Cherisher of the worlds! -7:61

"I but fulfill towards you the duties of my Lord's mission: Sincere is my advice to you, and I know from Allah something that you know not. -7:62

"Do you wonder that there has come to you a message from your Lord, through a man of your own people, to warn you,- so that you may fear Allah and haply receive His Mercy?" -7:63

But they rejected him, and We delivered him, and those with him, in the Ark: but We overwhelmed in the flood those who rejected Our signs. They were indeed a blind people! -7:64

According to the Qur'an, Prophet Noah (pbuh) was sent to his people, who were the first to corrupt the Right Way of life followed by Adam (Allah’s peace be upon him) and taught by him to his descendants.

This verse and others, in which the story of Noah (pbuh) has been related, show that his people did not either deny the existence of Allah nor were they ignorant of it, nor did they deny His worship.But the root cause of their deviation was that they were involved in shirk and had set up other partners with Allah in His Godhead and regarded them worthy of worship along with Him.This basic deviation led them to numerous other evils. For instance, this gave birth to a special class to represent the false gods they had set up. By and by, this class took possession of all the religious, political and economic powers of the community and created artificial barriers of high and low among people. Consequently, chaos, tyranny and immorality were rampant everywhere and humanity sank to the lowest depths of degradation, Prophet Noah was sent to reform this state of affairs. Accordingly, he exerted his utmost with great wisdom and fortitude for a very long time to bring about the desired reform, but that corrupt class had cunningly deluded the common people so much that all his efforts proved fruitless. When no more hope of their reform was left, Prophet Noah (pbuh) prayed to Allah and said, "My Lord, do not leave upon the earth even one of these disbelievers for, if Thou leave anyone of them alive, he will lead astray Thy servants and will give birth only to wicked and ungrateful descendants

The incident has been related here because what had happened between Noah (Allah's peace be upon him) and his people was exactly taking place at that time between Muhammad (Allah's peace be upon him) and his people. His Message was the same as that of Noah (pbuh) and the response of the chiefs to it was also the same. The chiefs of the Quraish were raising the same doubts against his Message that were raised by the chiefs of the people of Noah (pbuh) thousands of years before the Holy Prophet, and the same things were said in reply as were said by Noah (pbuh). Further on, it has been shown in the stories of the Messengers that the attitude of their people towards their Message was the same that was being shown by the chiefs of Makkah. Thus, the Qur'an impresses on its addressees the fact that in every age, the basic deviation of each people had always been the same, and that the invitation of the Messenger of Allah had also been the same in every age, and the ultimate end of all those who denied and rejected that invitation, has always been the same and will always be the same.

Chapter 23: Al-Mu’min (The Believers), Verse 23-30

(Further, We sent a long line of prophets for your instruction). We sent Noah to his people: He said, "O my people! worship Allah! You have no other god but Him. Will you not fear (Him)?" -23:23

The chiefs of the Unbelievers among his people said: "He is no more than a man like yourselves: his wish is to assert his superiority over you: if Allah had wished (to send messengers), He could have sent down angels; never did we hear such a thing (as he says), among our ancestors of old." -23:24

(And some said): "He is only a man possessed: wait (and have patience) with him for a time." -23:25

(Noah) said: "O my Lord! help me: for that they accuse me of falsehood!" -23:26

So We inspired him (with this message): "Construct the Ark within Our sight and under Our guidance: then when comes Our Command, and the fountains of the earth gush forth, take on board pairs of every species, male and female, and thy family- except those of them against whom the Word has already gone forth: And address Me not in favour of the wrong-doers; for they shall be drowned (in the Flood). -23:27

And when you have boarded the ship, you and those with you, then say, 'Praise to Allah who has saved us form the wrongdoing people.' -23:28

And say: "O my Lord! enable me to disembark with Your blessing: for You are the Best to enable (us) to disembark." -23:29

Verily in this there are Signs (for men to understand); (thus) do We try (men). -23:30

Chapter 54: Al Qamar (The Moon), Verse 9-15

Before them the People of Noah rejected (their messenger): they rejected Our servant, and said, "Here is one possessed!", and he was driven out. -54:9

That is, `They denied that the Hereafter has to take place when man will have to render an account of his deeds; they denied the Prophet hood of the Prophet who was making his people aware of this truth; and they denied the teaching of the Prophet, which taught them what to believe and what creed and conduct they should adopt in order to pass the reckoning of the Hereafter."

So he invoked his Lord, "Indeed, I am overpowered, so help me." -54:10

That is, "The people not only belied the Prophet but also branded him as a madman; they uttered threats against him, showered him with curses and abuses; and did whatever possibly they could to stop him from preaching the truth, and thus made life extremely difficult for him.

So We opened the gates of heaven, with water pouring forth. -54:11

That is, the earth so burst forth with springs at the Command of Allah that it was no longer earth but presented a scene of the springs all around.

And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs, so the waters met (and rose) to the extent decreed.-54:12

This signifies the Ark which the Prophet Noah (pbuh) had built under Allah's care and guidance even before the coming of the Flood.

But We bore him on an (Ark) made of broad planks and caulked with palm-fibre: -54:13

Literally: "This was a vengeance for the sake of him whose kufr had been committed." If kufr be taken in the sense of denial, it would mean: "Whose message had been denied and rejected; " and if it is taken in the meaning of ingratitude for a blessing, it would mean: 'Who was indeed a blessing for the people, but had been ungratefully rejected.'

She floats under our eyes (and care): a recompense to one who had been rejected (with scorn)! -54:14

It may also mean: `We left this dreadful punishment as a sign of warning," but in our opinion the preferable meaning is that the Ark was left as a sign of warning. It’s resting and existence on a high mountain continued to warn the later generations of the wrath of God for thousands of years and kept on reminding them how the people who had disobeyed God on this earth had met their down, and how the believers had been rescued from it.

Imam Bukhari, Ibn Abi Hatim, 'Abdur Razzaq and Ibn Jarirhave related traditions on the authority of Qatadah saying that at the time the Muslims conquered 'Iraqand al-Jazirah, this Ark still existed on Mount Judi (and according to a tradition, near the settlement of Baqirda), and the early Muslims had seen it. In the modern times also some people during their flights in the airplanes have sighted an Ark-like object on a peak in this region, which is suspected to be the Ark of Noah, and on the basis of the same expeditions have been sent from time to time to search it out.

And We have left this as a Sign (for all time): then is there any that will receive admonition? -54:15

Some people have misconstrued the words Yassarnal-Quran to mean that the Qur'an is an easy Book; no knowledge is required to understand it so much so that a person even without the knowledge of the Arabic language, can write a commentary on it, and can deduce any injunctions he likes from its verses independent of the Hadith and Islamic Law, whereas the context in which these words occur, indicates that they are meant to make the people realize this: "One means of the admonition are the dreadful torments that descended upon the rebellious nations, and the other means is this Qur'an, which guides you to the right path by argument and instruction. Obviously, this means of admonition is by far the easier one; then, why don't you take advantage of it and insist on meeting with the torment instead?

It is indeed Allah's bounty that He has sent this Book through His Prophet (pbuh) and is warning you that the ways you are following lead only to destruction and your well-being lies only in following this way. This method of admonition has been adopted so that you are rescued even before you fall into the pit of destruction. Now, who could be more foolish than the one who does not believe in the admonition and realizes his error only after he has fallen into the pit?"

Noah and His People

Chapter Noah, Verses 1 to 28

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Surely We sent Nuh to his people, saying: Warn your people before there come upon them a painful chastisement. -71:1

He said: O my people! Surely I am a plain warner to you: -71:2

That you should serve Allah and be careful of (your duty to) Him and obey me:-71:3

He will forgive you some of your faults and grant you a delay to an appointed term; surely the term of Allah when it comes is not postponed; did you but know! -71:4

Nuh's Invitation to His People

Allah says concerning Nuh that He sent him to his people commanding him to warn them of the punishment of Allah before it befell them. He was to tell them that if they would repent and turn to Allah, then the punishment would be lifted from them. Due to this Allah says,

"Warn your people before there comes to them a painful torment.'' He said: "O my people! Verily, I am a plain warner to you.'' meaning, clarity of the warning, making the matter apparent and clear.

That you should worship Allah, and have Taqwa of Him, meaning, `abandon those thingsthat He has forbidden and avoid that which He has declared to be sinful.'

(and obey me,) `In that which I command you to do and that which I forbid you from.'

(He will forgive you of your sins) meaning, `if you do what I command you to do and you believe in what I have been sent with to you, then Allah will forgive you for yoursins. '

(and respite you to an appointed term.) meaning, `He will extend your life span and protect you from the torment that He would have made befall you if you did not stayaway from His prohibitions.'

(Maintaining the family ties increases the life span.) Concerning Allah's statement,(Verily, the term of Allah when it comes, cannot be delayed, if you but know.) means, hasten to the obedience (of Allah) before the coming of His vengeance. For verily, if He commands that to happen, it cannot be repulsed or prevented. For He is the Great One Who compels everything,and He is the Almighty Whose might all of creation succumbs to.

He said: O my Lord! surely I have called my people by night and by day! -71:5

But my call has only made them flee the more: -71:6

And whenever I have called them that Thou mayest forgive them, they put their fingers in their ears, cover themselves with their garments, and persist and are puffed up with pride: -71:7

Then surely I called to them aloud: -71:8

Then surely I spoke to them in public and I spoke to them in secret: -71:9

Then I said, Ask forgiveness of your Lord, surely He is the most Forgiving: -71:10

He will send down upon you the cloud, pouring down abundance of rain: -71:11

And help you with wealth and sons, and make for you gardens, and make for you rivers. -71:12

What is the matter with you that you fear not the greatness of Allah? -71:13

And indeed He has created you through various grades: -71:14

Do you not see how Allah has created the seven heavens, one above another, -71:15

And made the moon therein a light, and made the sun a lamp? -71:16

And Allah has made you grow out of the earth as a growth: -71:17

Then He returns you to it, then will He bring you forth a (new) bringing forth: -71:18

And Allah has made for you the earth a wide expanse, -71:19

That you may go along therein in wide paths. -71:20

Nuh complains about his Encounter with His People

Allah tells about His servant and Messenger, Nuh, and that he complained to his Lord about the response he received from his people, and how he was patient with them for this long period of time -- which was nine hundred and fifty years. He complained due to his explaining and clarifying matters for them and his calling them to guidance and the straightest path. So he (Nuh)said,

(O my Lord! Verily, I have called to my people night and day,) meaning, `I did not abandon calling them night and day, carrying out Your command and in obediance toYou.'

(But all my calling added nothing but to (their) flight.) meaning, `the more I called them to come to the truth, the more they fled from it and avoided it.'

(And verily, every time I called unto them that You might forgive them, they thrust their fingers into their ears, covered themselves up with their garments,) meaning,`they closed up their ears so that they could not hear what I was calling them to.'

This is similar to what Allah said about the disbelievers of the Quraysh.

(And those who disbelieve say: "Listen not to this Qur'an, and make noise in the midst ofits (recitation) that you may overcome.'') (41:26)

(covered themselves up with their garments,) Ibn Jarir recorded from Ibn `Abbas that hesaid, "They concealed themselves under false pretences from him so that he would not recognize them.'' Sa`id bin Jubayr and As-Suddi both said, "They covered their heads so that they could nothear what he was saying.''

Nuh says:

(and persisted,) meaning, they continued in what they were upon of associating partners with Allah and great disbelief.

(and magnified themselves in pride.) meaning, they were turned away from following the truth and submitting to it.

(Then verily, I proclaimed to them in public,) meaning, with open speech and a raised voice.

(and I have appealed to them in private.) meaning, in discussions with them. So he tried various types of propagation to be more effective with them.

Nuh said: My Lord! surely they have disobeyed me and followed him whose wealth and children have added to him nothing but loss. -71:21

And they have planned a very great plan. -71:22

And they say: By no means leave your gods, nor leave Wadd, nor Suwa; nor Yaghus, and Yauq and Nasr. -71:23

And indeed they have led astray many, and do not increase the unjust in aught but error. -71:24

What Nuh said when He called His People to Allah

(I said: Ask forgiveness from your Lord, verily, He is Oft-Forgiving;) meaning, `return to Him and turn away from what you are involved in. Repent to Him soon, for verily, He is Most Accepting of the repentance of those who turn to Him in repentance. He will accept repentance no matter what the sin is, even if it is disbelief and polytheism.' Thus, he said,

(I said: Ask forgiveness from your Lord, verily, He is Oft-Forgiving; He will send rain to you Midrar,) meaning, continuous rain. Thus, it is recommended to recite this Surah in the prayerfor rain due to this Ayah. This has been reported from the Commander of the faithful, `Umar bin Al-Khattab. He ascended the Minbar to perform the prayer for rain, and he did not do more than seeking Allah's forgiveness and reciting the Ayat that mention seeking Allah's forgiveness. Among these Ayat:

(I said: Ask forgiveness from your Lord, verily, He is Oft-Forgiving; He will send rain to you Midrar,) Then he (`Umar) said, "Verily, I have sought rain with the keys of the sky which cause the rain to descend.'' Ibn `Abbas and others have said, "It (Midrar) means some of it (rain) following others.'' Concerning Allah's statement,

(And give you increase in wealth and children, and bestow on you gardens and bestow on you rivers.) meaning, `if you repent to Allah, seek His forgiveness and obey Him, He will increaseyour provisions for you and provide you with water from the blessings of the sky. He will cause the blessings of the earth and crops to grow for you. He will increase your live stock animals for you and give you more wealth and children. This means that He will give you more wealth, more children and gardens with various types of fruits. He will cause rivers to flow among these gardens.' This is the position of the invitation with encouragement. Then He made it balanced for them by using intimidation. He said,

(What is the matter with you, that you do not hope for any Waqar from Allah) meaning, great majesty. This has been said by Ibn `Abbas, Mujahid and Ad-Dahhak. Ibn `Abbas said, "That you all do not magnify Allah in the proper manner that He deserves to be magnified. Meaning, you do not fear His punishment and His vengeance.''

(While He has created you (in) Atwar (stages).) It has been said that this means from a drop of sperm, then from a hanging clot, then from a lump of flesh. Ibn `Abbas, `Ikrimah, Qatadah,Yahya bin Rafi`, As-Suddi and Ibn Zayd, all said this.

Concerning Allah's statement,

(And Allah has brought you forth from the (dust of) earth) This (Nabat) is a verbal noun (for emphasis) and its usage here is most excellent.

(Afterwards He will return you into it (the earth),) (71:18) meaning, when you die.

(And bring you forth.) meaning, on the Day of Judgement He will repeat your creation just as He first originated you.

(And Allah has made for you the earth a wide expanse.) meaning, He spread it out, leveled it,settled it, and stabilized it with firm and lofty mountains.

(That you may go about therein in broad roads.) meaning, He created it so that you may settle in it and travel in it wherever you wish, from its different sides, areas and regions. All of this is from what Nuh informed them of concerning Allah's power and His greatness in creating the heavens and the earth. It demonstrates the favor that He did for them by making both heavenly benefits and earthly benefits. For He is the Creator and the Sustainer Who made the heaven as a building and the earth as a bed, and He enlarged His provisions for His creatures. Therefore, He is the One Who it is obligatory to worship, and accept as One God. No one should be associated with Him as a partner, because He has no equal, peer, rival, coequal, mate, son, minister or adviser, rather He is the Most High, the Most Great.

Nuh complains to His Lord about His People's Response

Allah says that Nuh turned to Allah to inform Allah - the All Knowing from Whom nothing escapes - that he presented the clear call, as mentioned previously, and the comprehensive invitation in various ways. He called them sometimes by encouragement and sometimes by intimidating warnings. Yet, they disobeyed him, opposed him, denied him and followed the children of the world. They were those who were heedless of the command of Allah and they possessed delights of wealth and children. However, these things (worldly benefits) were also for gradual punishment and temporary respite, not for honor or blessing. Thus, Allah says,

(and followed one whose wealth and children give him no increase but loss.) The meaning ofAllah's statement,

(And they have plotted a mighty plot.) is that they plotted a deceptive plot for their follower stricking them into believing that they were following the truth and correct guidance. This is like what they will say to them on the Day of Judgement,

(Nay, but it was your plotting by night and day: when you orderd us to disbelieve in Allah andset up rivals to Him!) (34:33)

The Idols of the People of Nuh and what happened to Him

(And they have plotted a mighty plot. And they have said: `You shall not leave your gods, nor shall you leave Wadd, nor Suwa`, nor Yaghuth, and Ya`uq and Nasr.') These are the names oftheir idols which they used to worship besides Allah.

Al-Bukhari recorded from Ibn `Abbas that he said, "The idols that were among the people of Nuh wound up among the Arabs afterwards. In reference to Wadd, it became the idol of the people of Kalb in the area of Dawmat Al-Jandal. Suwa` became the idol of the people of Hudhayl. Yaghuth became the idol of the people of Murad, then the people of Bani Ghutayfat Al-Juruf in the area of Saba' worshipped it after them. Ya`uq became the idol of the people of Hamdan. Nasr became the idol of the people of Himyar for the family of Dhu Kala`. These idols were all named after righteous men from the people of Nuh. Then when these men died,

Shaytan inspired his (Nuh's) people to erect statues in honor of them at their gathering places where they used to come and sit, and to name these statues after these men (with their names).So they did this (as Shaytan suggested), but these statues were not worshipped until after those people (the ones who built them) had died and the knowledge was lost. Then, those statues were later worshipped.'' This has also been similarly reported from `Ikrimah, Ad-Dahhak, Qatadahand Ibn Ishaq. `Ali bin Abi Talhah reported from Ibn `Abbas that he said, "These are statues that were worshipped in the time of Nuh.'' Ibn Jarir recorded from Muhammad bin Qays that he said concerning Yaghuth, Ya`uq and Nasr, "They were righteous people between the time of Adam and Nuh, and they had followers who used to adhere to their guidance. Then, when they died,their companions who used to follow them said, `If we make images of them, it will increase our desire to perform worship when we remember them.' So they made images of them. Then, when those people died and other people came after them, Iblis approached them and said, `They (your predecessors) used to worship these statues and they were granted rain by their worship of them.'Thus, they (the latter people) worshipped them.''

The Supplication of Nuh against His People and for whoever believed in Him

Allah then says,

(And indeed they have led many astray.) meaning, by the idols that they took for worship, they mislead a large number of people. For verily, the worship of those idols continued throughout many generations until our times today, among the Arabs, the non-Arabs and all the groups ofthe Children of Adam. Al-Khalil (Prophet Ibrahim) said in his supplication,

(And keep me and my sons away from worshipping idols."O my Lord! They have indeed led astray many among mankind...'') (14:35,36) Allah then says,

(Grant no increase to the wrongdoers save error.) This is a supplication from him (Nuh) against his people due to their rebellion, disbelief and obstinacy. This is just as Musa supplicated against Fir`awn and his chiefs in his statement,

(Our Lord ! Destroy their wealth, and harden their hearts, so that they will not believe until they see the painful torment.) (10:88) Verily, Allah responded to the supplication of both of these Prophets concerning their people and He drowned their nations due to their rejection of what he (that Prophet) had come with.

Because of their wrongs they were drowned, then made to enter fire, so they did not find any helpers besides Allah. -71:25

And Nuh said: My Lord! leave not upon the land any dweller from among the unbelievers: -71:26

For surely if Thou leave them they will lead astray Thy servants, and will not beget any but immoral, ungrateful (children) -71:27

My Lord! forgive me and my parents and him who enters my house believing, and the believing men and the believing women; and do not increase the unjust in aught but destruction! -71:28

Allah says, (Because of their sins they were drowned,) meaning, for their numerous sins, rebellion, persistence in disbelief and opposition to their Messengers.

(they were drowned, then were made to enter the Fire.) meaning, they will be carried from the flood of the seas to the heat of the Fire.

(And they found none to help them instead of Allah.) meaning, they will have no helper, assistant, or savior who can rescue them from the punishment of Allah. This is similar to Allah'sstatement,

(This day there is no savior from the decree of Allah except him on whom He has mercy.)(11:43)

(And Nuh said: "My Lord! Leave not one of the disbelievers on the earth Dayyar!'') meaning,do not leave a single one of them on the face of the earth, not even a lone individual. This is a method of speaking that gives emphasis to the negation. Ad-Dahhak said, "Dayyar means one.''As-Suddi said, "Dayyar is the one who stays in the home.'' So Allah answered his supplication and He destroyed all of those on the face of the earth who were disbelievers. He (Allah) even destroyed Nuh's (biological) son from his own loins, who separated himself from his father (Nuh). He (Nuh's son) said,

(I will betake myself to some mountain, it will save me from the water. Nuh said: "This day there is no savior from the decree of Allah except him on whom He has mercy.'' And waves came in between them, so he (the son) was among the drowned.) (11:43) Allah saved the people of the ship who believed with Nuh, and they were those whom Allah commanded Nuh to carry withhim. Allah said,

(If You leave them, they will mislead Your servants,) meaning, `if You leave a single one ofthem they will lead your servants astray.' This refers to those whom He will create after them.

(and they will beget none but wicked disbelievers.) meaning, wicked in their deeds and disbelieving in their hearts. He (Nuh) said this due to what he knew about them since he remained among them for nine hundred and fifty years. Then he said,

(My Lord! Forgive me, and my parents, and him who enters my home as a believer,) Ad-Dahhak said, "This means, my Masjid.'' However, there is no harm in understanding the Ayah accordingto its apparent meaning, which would be that he (Nuh) supplicated for every person who entered his house who was a believer. Then he said,

(and all the believing men and women.) He supplicated for all of the believing men and women,and that includes those of them who were living and those of them who were dead. For this reason, it is recommended to supplicate like this, in following the example of Nuh, and that which has been reported in the narrations and well-known, legislated supplications. Then, he said,

(And to the wrongdoers, grant You no increase but destruction!) As-Suddi said, "But destruction.'' Mujahid said, "But loss.'' This means in both this life and in the Hereafter. This is the end of the Tafsir of Surat Nuh.

In the Name of your Lord Who has created all exists), has created man from a clot. Read! And your Lord is Most Generous, Who has taught (the writing) by the pen (the first person to write was Prophet Idris. (96.1-4) [[

Prophet Idris or Enoch (Peace be upon him) -First Prophet to be Taught to Write with Pen

Not much is known or mentioned about the Prophet Idris (Enoch) pbuh except in the following verses of the Quran:

Chapter 19 – Maryam

Also mention in the Book the case of Idris: He was a man of truth (and sincerity), (and) a prophet: -19:56

And We raised him to a lofty station. -19:57

Those were some of the prophets on whom Allah did bestow His Grace,- of the posterity of Adam, and of those who We carried (in the Ark) with Noah, and of the posterity of Abraham and Israel of those whom We guided and chose. Whenever the Signs of (Allah) Most Gracious were rehearsed to them, they would fall down in prostrate adoration and in tears. -19:58

Ch 21 – The Prophets

And (remember) Isma'il, Idris, and Zul-kifl, all (men) of constancy and patience; -21:85

We admitted them to Our mercy: for they were of the righteous ones. -21:86

These Prophets are the Chosen Ones

Allah, the Exalted, says that these Prophets (were favored), but this does not mean only these Prophets who were mentioned in this Surah. Rather, it is referring to all of those who were Prophets. Allah merely changes the implication of the discussion from specific individuals to the entire group of Prophets.

Surah Al-An`am,

(And that was our proof which We gave Ibrahim against his people. We raise whom We will in degrees. Certainly your Lord is All-Wise, All-Knowing. And We bestowed upon him Ishaq and Ya`qub, each of them We guided; and before him We guided Nuh, and among his progeny Dawud, Sulayman, Ayyub, Yusuf, Musa and Harun. Thus do We reward the doers of good. And Zakariyya, and Yahya, and `Isa and Ilyas, each one of them was of the righteous. And Isma`il and Al-Yasa` and Yunus and Lut and each one of them We preferred above the `Alamin. And also some of their fathers and their progeny and their brethern, We chose them, and We guided them to the straight path.)[6:83-87]

Until Allah's statement, (They are those whom Allah had guided. So follow their guidance.) [6: 90] Allah, the Exalted, says, (Of some of them We have related to you their story. And of some We have not related to you their story.) [40:78] In Sahih Al-Bukhari it is reported from Mujahid that he asked Ibn `Abbas, "Is there a prostration in Surah Sad'' Ibn `Abbas replied, "Yes.'' Then he recited, (They are those whom Allah had guided. So follow their guidance.) [6:90]

Ibn `Abbas then said, "So your Prophet is one of those who have been commanded to follow them. And he is of those who should be followed.'' -- referring to Dawud. Allah, the Exalted, said in this noble Ayah, (When the Ayah of the Most Gracious were recited unto them, they fell down prostrate and weeping.) This means that when they heard the Words of Allah, mentioning His proofs and evidences, they prostrated to their Lord in humility, humbleness, praise and thanks for the great favors they were blessed with. The word Bukiyan at the end of the Ayah means those who are crying, and it is the plural of Baki. Due to this the scholars agree that it is legislated to prostrate upon reading this Ayah, in following them and adhering to their manner of worship.

Ubayy bin Ka'b said, "Adam was a tall man, about the height of a palm tree, and he had thick hair on his head. When he committed the error that he committed, his private part appeared to him while before, he did not see it. So he started running in fright through Paradise, but a tree in Paradise took him by the head. He said to it, 'Release me,' but it said, 'No, I will not release you.' So his Lord called him, 'O Adam! Do you run away from Me' He said, 'O Lord! I felt ashamed before You.'''

Warning Against the Lures of Shaytan

Allah warns the Children of Adam against Iblis and his followers, by explaining about his ancient enmity for the father of mankind, Adam peace be upon him. Iblis plotted to have Adam (pbuh) expelled from Paradise, which is the dwelling of comfort, to the dwelling of hardship and fatigue (this life) and caused him to have his private part uncovered, after it had been hidden from him. This, indeed, is indicative of deep hatred (from Shaytan towards Adam (pbuh) and mankind). Allah said in a similar Ayah,

(Will you then take him (Iblis) and his offspring as protectors and helpers rather than Me, while they are enemies to you, What an evil is the exchange for the wrongdoers.) [18:50].

Allah Tests Adam

"O Adam! you and your wife dwell in the Garden, and enjoy (its goodthings) as you wish: but do not approach this tree, or you run into harm and transgression." -7:19

Imam Abu Ja'far bin Jarir said,"The correct opinion is that Allah forbade Adam and his wife from eating from a certain tree in Paradise, but they ate from it. We do not know which tree that was, because Allah has not mentioned anything in the Qur'an or the authentic Sunnah about the nature of this tree. This is knowledge that does not bring any benefit, just as being ignorant in its nature does no harm. Allah knows best.

We said: "O Adam! you and your wife dwell in the Garden; and eat of the bountiful things therein as (where andwhen) you will; but do not approach this tree, or you run into harm and transgression." 2:35

The Ayah (2:35) indicates that Hawwa' was created before Adam entered Paradise, Then Adam (pbuh) fell asleep, as the People of the Book (Jews and Christians) and other scholars such as Ibn'Abbas have stated, Allah took one of Adam's left ribs and made flesh grow in its place, while Adam (pbuh) was asleep and unaware. Allah then created Adam's (pbuh wife, Hawwa' (also known as Eve), from his rib and made her a woman, so that she could be a comfort for him. When Adam (pbuh) woke up and saw Hawwa' next to him, it was claimed, he said, 'My flesh and blood, my wife.' Hence, Adam (pbuh) reclined with Hawwa'. When Allah married Adam (pbuh) to Hawwa' and gave him comfort, Allah said to him directly, ("O Adam! Dwell you and your wife in the Paradise and eat both of you freely with pleasure and delight, of things therein wherever you will, but come not near this tree or you both will be of the wrongdoers.'').''

Then did Satan make them slip from the (garden), and get them out of the state (of felicity) in which they had been. We said:

"Get you down, all (you people), with enmity between yourselves. On earth will be your dwelling-place and your means of livelihoodfor a time." -2:36

Then began Satan to whisper suggestions to them, bringing openly before their minds all their shame that was hidden from them (before): he said:

"Your Lord only forbade you this tree, lest you should become angels or such beings as live forever." -7:20

And he swore to them both, that he was their sincere adviser. -7:21

Allah states that He allowed Adam(pbuh) and his wife to dwell in Paradise and to eat from all of its fruits,except one tree. Shaytan envied them, wished to rid them of the various favors and nice clothes that they were enjoying.

(Shaytan) said: "Your Lord did not forbid you this tree save you should become angels...'' meaning, so that you do not become angels or dwell here for eternity. Surely, if you eat from this tree, you will attain both, he said. In another Verse, (Shaytan whispered to him,saying: "O Adam! Shall I lead you to the Tree of Eternity and to a kingdom that will never waste away'') [20:120].

("Verily, I am one of the sincere well-wishers for you both.'') Qatadah commented on this Ayah,"Shaytan swore by Allah, saying, 'I was created before you, and I have better knowledge than you. Therefore, follow me and I will direct you.'''

So by deceit he brought about their fall: when they tasted of the tree, their shame became manifest to them, and they began to sew together the leaves of the garden over their bodies.

And their Lord called to them: "Did I not forbid you that tree, and tell you that Satan was an avowed enemy to you?" -7:22

They said: "Our Lord! We have wronged our own souls: If You do not forgive us and do not bestow upon us Your Mercy, we shall certainly be lost." 7:23

(Then the Shaytan made them slipt here from) either refers to Paradise, and in this case, it means that Shaytan led Adam (pbuh) and Hawwa' away from it.

So he misled them with deception.Then when they tasted of the tree, that which was hidden from them of their shame (private parts) became manifest to them and they began to cover themselves with the leaves of Paradise. And their Lord called out to them (saying): "Did I not forbid you that tree and tell you: Verily, Shaytan is an open enemy unto you''. They said: "Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If You forgive us not, and bestow not upon us Your mercy, we shall certainly be of the losers.''

Ibn 'Abbas commented on the Ayah,(And they began to cover themselves with the leaves of Paradise.) They began to cover themselves with the leaves of Paradise, "Making them as a dress (or garment).''Commenting on Allah's statement,

"Adam said, 'O Lord! What i fI repented and sought forgiveness' Allah said, 'Then, I will admit you into Paradise.' As for Shaytan, he did not ask for forgiveness, but for respite .Each one of them was given what he asked for.'' Ad-Dahhak bin Muzahim commented,

("Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If You forgive us not, and bestow not upon us Your mercy, we shall certainly be of the losers.'') "These are the words that Adam received from his Lord.''

(Allah)said: "Get you down, with enmity between yourselves. On earth will be your dwelling-place and your means of livelihood,- for a time." -7:24

He said: "Therein shall you live, and therein shall you die; but from it you shall be taken out (at last)." -7:25

(We said: "Get you down, all, with enmity between yourselves. On earth will be a dwelling place for you and an enjoyment for a time.'') meaning, dwelling, sustenance and limited life, until the commencement of the Day of Resurrection

It was said that, (Get down), was addressed to Adam, Hawwa', Iblis and the snake. Some scholars did not mentionthe snake, and Allah knows best.

("Get you down (from the Paradise to the earth), both of you, together...'') [20:123]. If the story about the snake is true, then it is a follower of Iblis.

Adam (pbuh) Remained in Paradise for an Hour

Al-Hakim recorded that Ibn 'Abbas said, "Adam was allowed to reside in Paradise during the time period between the 'Asr (Afternoon) prayer, until sunset.''

Friday is the best day on which the sun has risen. On Friday, Allah created Adam (pbuh), admitted him into Paradise, and expelled him from it.

Adam (pbuh) Repents and Supplicates to Allah (swt)

Then Adam learnt from his Lord words of inspiration, and his Lord turned towards him; for He is Oft-Returning, Most Merciful. 2:37

(37. They said: "Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If You forgive us not, and bestow not upon us Your mercy, we shall certainly be of the losers.'') (7:23)

Ibn 'Abbas commented:

(Then Adam received from his Lord Words) "Adam said, 'O Lord! Did You not created me with Your Own Hands' He said, 'Yes.' He said, 'And blow life into me' He said, 'Yes.' He said, 'And when I sneezed, You said, 'May Allah grant you His mercy.' Does not Your mercy precede Your anger' He was told, 'Yes.' Adam said, 'And You destined me to commit this evil act' He was told, 'Yes.' He said, 'If I repent, will You send me back to Paradise' Allah said, 'Yes.'''

Allah's statement,

Verily, He is the One Who forgives (accepts repentance), the Most Merciful (2:37) means that Allah forgives whoever regrets his error and returns to Him in repentance. The verses mentioned above, testify to the fact that Allah forgives the sins of whoever repents,demonstrating His kindness and mercy towards His creation and servants. There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, the Most Forgiving, the MostMerciful.

We said: "Get you down all from here; and if, as is sure, there comes to you guidance from Me, who so ever follows My guidance, on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve. -2:38

Allah stated that when He sent Adam (puh), Hawwa', and Shaytan to earth from Paradise, He warned them that He will reveal Books and send Prophets and Messengers to them, i.e., to their offspring. Abu Al-'Aliyah said, "Al-Huda, refers to the Prophets, Messengers, the clear signs and plain explanation.''

(And whoever follows My guidance) meaning, whoever accepts what is contained in My Books and what I send the Messengers with, (There shall be no fear on them) regarding the Hereafter, (nor shall they grieve) regarding the life of this world. Similarly, in Surat Ta Ha, Allah said, (He (Allah) said: "Get you down (from the Paradise to the earth), both of you, together, some of you are an enemy to some others. Then if there comes to you guidance from Me, then whoever follows My guidance, he shall neither go astray, nor shall he be distressed.") (20:123)

Ibn 'Abbas commented, "He will not be misguided in this life or miserable in the Hereafter.'' The Ayah, (But whosoever turns away from My Reminder (i.e. neither believes in this Qur'an nor acts on its teachings) verily, for him is a life of hardship, and We shall raise him up blind on the Day of Resurrection.) (20:124) is similar to what Allah stated here, (But those who disbelieve and belie Our Ayat ـ such are the dwellers of the Fire. They shall abide therein forever), meaning, they will remain in Hell for eternity and will not find away out of it.

(40. O Children of Israel! Remember My favor which I bestowed upon you, and fulfill (your obligations to) My covenant (with you) so that I fulfill (My obligations to) your covenant(with Me), and fear none but Me.) (41. And believe in what I have sent down (this Qur'an), confirming that which is with you (the Tawrah and the Injil),and be not the first to disbelieve therein, and buy not with My verses (the Tawrah and the Injil) a small price (i.e. getting a small gain by selling My verses),and fear Me and Me alone.)

Sending Them All Down to Earth

"But those who reject Faith and belie Our Signs, they shall be companions of the Fire; they shall abide therein." -2:39

(On earth will be a dwelling place for you and an enjoyment for a time.) means, on earth you will have dwellings and known,designated, appointed terms that have been recorded by the Pen, counted by Predestination and written in the First Record.

(He (Allah) said: "Therein you shall live, and therein you shall die, and from it you shall be brought out (resurrected).'')

This Ayah is similar to Allah's other statement, (Thereof (the earth) We createdyou, and into it We shall return you, and from it We shall bring you out once again.) [20:55]. Allah states that He has made the earth a dwelling place for the Children of Adam, for the remainder of this earthly life. On it, they will live, die and be buried in their graves; and from it, they will be resurrected for the Day of Resurrection. On that Day, Allah will gather the first and last of creatures and reward or punish each according to his or her deeds.

O children of Adam, We have bestowed upon you clothing to conceal yourprivate parts and as adornment. But the clothing of righteousness - thatis best. That is from the signs of Allah that perhaps they willremember. -7:26

Prophet Adam (pbuh)

Prostration to Adam (pbuh) and Satan’s Disobedience to God

Prostration to Adam and Satan’s disobedience to God is told in Chapter 7: Al-Araf (The Heights) Allah informs the Children of Adam (pbuh) about the honor of their father and the enmity of Shaytan, who still has envy for them and for their father Adam (pbuh). So they should beware of him and not follow in his footsteps. Allah said,

It is We Who created you and gave you shape; then We bade the angels bow down to Adam, and they bowed down; not so Iblis, he refused to be of those who bow down -7:11

And (remember) when your Lord said to the angels: "I am going to create a man from dried (sounding) clay of altered mud. So, when I have fashioned him completely and breathed into him the soul (which I created for him), then fall (you) down prostrating yourselves unto him.'') [15:28-29]. After Allah created Adam (pbuh) with His Hands from dried clay of altered mud and made him in the shape of a human being, He blew life into him and ordered the angels to prostrate before him, honoring Allah's glory and magnificence. The angels all heard, obeyed and prostrated, but Satan did not prostrate. We explained this subject in the beginning of Surat Al-Baqarah. And indeed We created man out of an extract of clay (water and earth)[23:12]. For this merely means that Adam (pbuh) was created from clay. His children were created from Nutfah (mixed male and female sexual discharge). This last Ayah is thus talking about the origin of mankind, not that they were all created from clay, and Allah knows best.

(Allah) said: “What prevented you from bowing down when I commanded you?” He said: “I am better than he: You created me from fire, and him from clay.” -7:12

Shaytan said that he did not obey Allah. Shaytan said that he is better than Adam (pbuh) because he was created from fire while, "You created him from clay, and fire is better.'' The cursed one looked at the origin of creation not at the honor bestowed, that is, Allah creating Adam (pbuh) with His Hand and blowing life into him. Shaytan made a false comparison when confronted by Allah's command. His claim that the fire is more honored than mud was also false, because mud has the qualities of wisdom, forbearance, patience and assurance, mud is where plants grow, flourish, increase, and provide good. To the contrary, fire has the qualities of burning, recklessness and hastiness. Therefore, the origin of creation directed Shaytan to failure, while the origin of Adam (pbuh) led him to return to Allah with repentance, humbleness, obedience and submission to His command, admitting his error and seeking Allah's forgiveness and pardon for it. Therefore, Shaytan alone contradicted the angels, because he refused to prostrate. He, thus, became `Ablasa' from the mercy, meaning, lost hope in acquiring Allah's mercy Ibn Jarir recorded that Al-Hasan commented on Shaytan's statement, ("You created me from fire, and him You created from clay.'') "Iblis uses an analogy and he was the first one to do so.''

(Allah) said” Get you down from this: it is not for you to be arrogant here: get out, for you are of the meanest (of creatures).” -7:13 He said: “Give me respite till the day they are raised up.” -7:14 (Allah) said: “Be you among those who have respite.” -7:15

(Get down from this) "because you defied My command and disobeyed Me. Get out, it is not for you to be arrogant here,'' in Paradise, according to the scholars of Tafsir. It could also refer to particular status which he held in the utmost highs. According to this, Allah granted leave to Satan to do whatever he liked to mislead Adam (pbuh) and his offspring from the Right Way. "Indeed you shall have no power over My servants." (7:65). This means "You will be allowed to make attempts to involve them in misunderstandings and allure them by false hopes, and by making evil look fair to them and to invite them to evil ways by the allurements of lusts and vain hopes. But you shall give neither any power to force them to your ways nor to prevent them from following the Right Way, if they intend to follow it." The same thing has also been stated in 14: 22: "When on (the Day of) Resurrection, Allah will pass His judgment on His followers, Satan will say to them, `I had no power to force you to follow me. The only thing I did was to invite you to my way; therefore do not blame me now, but blame yourselves . . . . ' . "

He said: “Because You have thrown me out of the Way, lo! I will lie in wait for them on Your Straight Way: -7:16 “Then I will assault them from before them and behind them, from their right and their left: nor will You find gratitude in most of them (for Your mercies).” -7:17

Until the Day they (humans) are raised up (resurrected), Satan was sure that he got what he wanted, he went on in defiance and rebellion. Imam Ahmad recorded that Saburah bin Abi Al-Fakih said that he heard the Messenger of Allah saying, about Satan, “Then I will come to them from before them, Raising doubts in them concerning their Hereafter, and from behind them, making them more eager for this life, from their right, causing them confusion in the religion, and from their left luring them to commit sins.'' This is meant to cover all paths of good and evil. Shaytan discourages the people from the path of good and lures them to the path of evil. He did not say that he will come from above them, because the mercy descends from above.

(Allah) said: “Get out from this, disgraced and expelled. If any of them follow you, I will fill Hell with you all. -7:18

Allah emphasized His cursing, expelling, banishing and turning Shaytan away from the uppermost heights. Allah said, "(Whoever of them (mankind) will follow you, then surely, I will fill Hell with you all.) '' But Shaytan promises them nothing but deceit. "Verily, My servants - you have no authority over them. And All-Sufficient is your Lord as a Guardian.'') Before we delve into the next part of the story of Adam (pbuh), it is important to familiarize oneself with some of God’s creation. Among his creation, there are angels, humans, and jinn. Jinns are made from a smokeless fire, humans from clay, and angels from light. They were made before Humans and inhabit both the heavens and the earth. In many aspects of their world, the Jinn are very similar to us. They eat and drink, they marry, have children and they die. The life span however, is far greater than ours. Jinns are different from Humans in that that cannot be seen by humans under normal circumstances, but are capable of occupying the same space as us. Jinns have been with us since our creation and have been known to the other prophets as well. Prophet Solomon (pbuh) was given a gift from God of having the ability to make all the jinns do as he commanded (38:37). It was with jinn’s strength that Al Aqsa was built. Al Aqsa is the site that includes the mosque (along with the Dome of the Rock) which also referred to as al-Haram ash-Sharif or "Sacred Noble Sanctuary", a site also known as the Temple Mount, the holiest site in Judaism, the place where the First and Second Temples are generally accepted to have stood. There are Muslim jinns:

Allah says, “And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.” (51:56)

Every human being has a partner jinn (Hadith, Muslim). This means that we all have a jinn that is constantly following from the day we are born until the day we die, whispering in our ears to commit sins in order to displease Allah (swt); these jinns are known as shaytaan or devils. The jinns will also be judged on the Day of Judgment just like the humans. Hell will be filled with jinns and humans (7:179). You might be wondering how some of these jinns, or devils came to have the ability of misleading humans? This begins with the story of the Father of jinns, Iblis (also known as Lucifer or Satan- the fallen angel) who believed in God and worshiped Him alone. It is important to note, that in the Islamic tradition, Iblis, is not a fallen angel, but a jinn. Angels are made to praise, worship and follow the commands of God and have no other choice, but jinns and humans can choose to do otherwise. Iblis was a jinn, who dwelled with the angels. He disobeyed Allah, and as a result was forced out of heaven and given respite until the day of judgment from further punishment. Narrated by Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "Allah created Adam in his complete shape and form (directly), sixty cubits (about 30 meters) in height. When He created him, He said (to him), "Go and greet that group of angels sitting there, and listen what they will say in reply to you, for that will be your greeting and the greeting of your offspring." Adam (went and) said, 'As-Salamu alaikum (Peace be upon you).' They replied, 'AsSalamu-'Alaika wa Rahmatullah (Peace and Allah's Mercy be on you) So they increased 'Wa Rahmatullah' The Prophet added 'So whoever will enter Paradise, will be of the shape and form of Adam. Since then the creation of Adam's (offspring) (i.e. stature of human beings is being diminished continuously) to the present time." Volume 8, Book 74, Number 246

Creation of Prophet Adam (pbuh)

Note: * In the Islamic tradition we say peace be upon him after mentioning the name of any prophet, out of respect. For this reason, we will write abbreviate it as (pbuh). Prophet Adam pbuh’s story of creation starts in Chapter 2: Al-Baqara (The Cow)

And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, "Indeed, I will make upon the earth a successive authority." They said, "Will You place upon it one who causes corruption therein and sheds blood, while we declare Your praise and sanctify You?" Allah said, "Indeed, I know that which you do not know." -2:30

The angels meant that this type of creature usually commits the atrocities they mentioned. The angels knew of this fact, according to their understanding of human nature, for Allah stated that He would create man from clay. Or, the angels understood this fact from the word Khalifah, which also means the person who judges disputes that occur between people, forbidding them from injustice and sin, as Al-Qurtubi said. The statement the angels uttered was not a form of disputing with Allah's, nor out of envy for the Children of Adam, as some mistakenly thought. Allah has described them as those who do not precede Him in speaking, meaning that they do not ask Allah anything without His permission. When Allah informed them that He was going to create a creation on the earth, and they had knowledge that this creation would commit mischief on it, as Qatadah mentioned, they said, This is only a question for the sake of learning about the wisdom of that, as if they said, Our Lord! What is the wisdom of creating such creatures since they will cause trouble in the earth and spill blood? "If the wisdom behind this action is that You be worshipped, we praise and glorify You (meaning we pray to You) we never indulge in mischief, so why create other creatures'' Allah said to the angels in answer to their inquiry, (I know that which you do not know.) Meaning, "I know that the benefit of creating this type of creature outweighs the harm that you mentioned, that which you have no knowledge of. I will create among them Prophets and send Messengers. I will also create among them truthful, martyrs, righteous believers, worshippers, the modest, the pious, the scholars who implement their knowledge, humble people and those who love Allah and follow His Messengers.''

And He taught Adam the names - all of them. Then He showed them to the angels and said, "Inform Me of the names of these, if you are truthful." -2:31 They said, "Exalted are You; we have no knowledge except what You have taught us. Indeed, it is You who is the Knowing, the Wise." -2:32 He said, "O Adam, inform them of their names." And when he had informed them of their names, He said, "Did I not tell you that I know the unseen [aspects] of the heavens and the earth? And I know what you reveal and what you have concealed." -2:33

Allah stated the virtue of Adam (pbuh) above the angels, because He taught Adam (pbuh), rather than them, the names of everything. This occurred after they prostrated to him (This will be discussed in our next post). This discussion precedes that event here, only to show the importance of his position, and the absence of the angels' knowledge about creating the Khalifah (leader) when they asked about it. So Allah informed the angels that He knows what they do not know, and then He mentioned this to show them Adam's superiority over them in knowledge. Allah said, (And He taught Adam all the names (of everything)) "Meaning, the names that people use, such as human, animal, sky, earth, land, sea, horse, donkey, and so forth, including the names of the other species.'' (Then He showed them to the angels) meaning, the objects or creations. `Abdur-Razzaq narrated that Ma`mar said that Qatadah said, "Allah paraded the objects before the angels, (And said, "Tell Me the names of these if you are truthful'').'' Allah's statement means, "Tell Me the names of what I paraded before you, O angels who said, (Will You place therein those who will make mischief therein and shed blood). You asked, `Are You appointing a Khalifah (leader) from us or from other creations We praise and glorify You. Therefore, Allah said, "If you say the truth, that if I appoint a non-angel Khalifah (leader) on the earth, he and his offspring will disobey Me, commit mischief and shed blood, but if I designate you the Khalifahs (leaders) you will obey Me, follow My command and honor and glorify Me. However, since you do not know the names of the objects I paraded before you, then you have even less knowledge of what will occur on the earth that does not exist yet.'' (They (angels) said: "Glory is to You, we have no knowledge except what you have taught us. Verily, it is You, the Knower, the Wise.''). Here the angels are praising Allah's holiness, and perfection above every kind of deficiency, affirming that no creature could ever acquire any part of Allah's knowledge, except by His permission, nor could anyone know anything except what Allah teaches them. This is why they said, ("Glory is to You, we have no knowledge except what you have taught us. Verily You are the Knower, the Wise) meaning, Allah is knowledgeable of everything, Most Wise about His creation, and He makes the wisest decisions, and He teaches and deprives whom He wills from knowledge. Verily, Allah's wisdom and justice in all matters is perfect. Chapter 15: Al Hijr (The Rocky Tract)

We created man from sounding clay, from mud moulded into shape; -15:26 And the Jinn race, We had created before, from the fire of a scorching wind. -15:27 Behold! your Lord said to the angels: "I am about to create man, from sounding clay from mud moulded into shape; -15:28 "When I have fashioned him (in due proportion) and breathed into him of My spirit, you fall down in obeisance to him." -15:29

It is said by Al-Jalalayn that, Allah took sand from different parts of the earth and mixed it with different waters. This why we have people of different colors: black, white, brown, yellow, and red. In these verses, the creation of Jinn is mentioned. Before humans were created, there were angels and jinns (who inhabited the heavens and the earth). Humans are made from clay, Jinns from fire. Both of these creations were given a free will, the ability to follow or disobey God. Jinns are a creation that lives amongst us, but we may or may not see them. After creating Man, he commands the angels to prostrate before man. We will go into these verses in more detail in our next posting. Chapter 3: Al-e-Imran (The Family of Imran)

The similitude of Jesus before Allah is as that of Adam; He created him from dust, then said to him: "Be". And he was. -3:59

Ibn kathir: He Who created Adam without a father or a mother is able to create `Isa (Jesus), as well, without a father. If the claim is made that `Isa is Allah's son because he was created without a father, then the same claim befits Adam even more. However, since such a claim regarding Adam is obviously false, then making the same claim about `Isa is even more false. Furthermore, by mentioning these facts, Allah emphasizes His ability, by creating Adam without a male or female, Hawa' (Eve) from a male without a female, and `Isa (Jesus) from a mother without a father, compared to His creating the rest of creation from male and female. This is why Allah said in Surah (chapter-19) Maryam. “And We made him a sign for mankind” [19: 21].Allah said in this Ayah, ((This is) the truth from your Lord, so be not of those who doubt.) meaning, this is the only true story about `Isa, and what is beyond truth save falsehood Allah next commands His Messenger to call those who defy the truth, regarding `Isa, to the Mubahalah (the curse).

About the Quran

To begin with, we would like to make clear how the Quran was revealed, how it is structured, and how it is read and interpreted. Muslims believe the Quran was sent to all of humanity, not just to the Muslims, but also to the unseen creation, otherwise known as jinns (we will elaborate further in our future postings). It is a book that is meant to be recited, understood, and applied in our daily lives. Muslims believe the Quran contains the words of God. Muhammad (peace be upon him) would receive wahy or revelations from the Angel Gabriel; it took 23 years to reveal the Quran this way. When the revelation would come down it would immediately be memorized and written down. Finally after Muhammad's (peace be upon him) death, it was compiled together into a book. Muslims believe in the Injeel (Gospel), Torah (Old Testament), and Zabur (Psalms). Every Prophet that came had the same message, which was to worship only One God. Unfortunately, overtime these books had been corrupted by man, changing the words to what they felt was correct. The Quran is not organized in the same manner as the Bible. The reason the Quran was revealed in Arabic was because it was sent to the people of Saudi Arabia, and that was their spoken language. The same can be said about other religious texts that were sent down in the language of the people it was originally revealed to. This made it easy for the people of that time to understand what was being revealed to them. The Quran has been preserved for over 1400 years, not a single sentence or word has been changed. This is because there are so many people who memorize the Quran that if there was a change, it would be caught right away. The Quran is the final message, redirecting mankind to God. If you look at any Quran around the world from any time period, the Arabic text is the same. The difference lies in the translation of the Quran.
