đđ. Hated this question.
By @kmccrae The beautiful thing about change is that there are several ways to achieve it. I know some of you are dying to watch just to see how it's going to be. Well guess what, you should watch...see the reason below from a member of APhiA: So you hate Sorority Sisters and want to do something effective? Good. But you have to know how it all operates. 1. These shows are in the can, so if you are simply telling VH1 that you're mad, they don't care. They'll keep playing them. 2. If you say that you won't watch, they won't care. Plenty of people will watch, and enough to be a success. 2a. Advertisers purchase time on VH1 without picking a particular show. Instead, they simply say, "Put me on a show at a certain time, that targets a certain demographic. So guess what, they're JUST as surprised as you that they're on âŞ#âSororitySistersâŹ... So how do you win? Glad you asked... 3. Every television advertiser is very cognizant of their social media presence, and as a result, their reputation in social media. They spend a LOT of money to get people thinking about their product on Twitter (in particular) in the way they've plotted it for months. What is their nightmare? When a bunch of people drive their social media message to the negative, and when I mean negative, I mean to where you make it trend negatively. Don't believe that all publicity is good publicity. That's a lie. It may bring awareness, but not good publicity. So what do you do to get VH1 to pull their programming. 4. Watch. Yes, watch. But as you watch, WATCH THE COMMERCIALS. Identify the advertisers QUICKLY, and then send negative tweets with the following: a. The advertisers official twitter address b. #SororitySisters hashtag so that it trends to people who don't know about what you're doing. c. âŞ#âboycottâŹ(insert advertiser name) Also, if you're VERY specific about what product you're NOT going to buy because of their support of #SororitySisters, then you win even more. So here's a typical effective tweet: "#SororitySisters is offensive to black women. @nissan, I'm not buying your XYZ car cause you support it. âŞ#âboycottnissanâŹ"

Members of University of Connecticut black sorority Alpha Kappa Alpha, are speaking out against how theyâre being treated by the historically white Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity (PIKE), especially after the frat went unpunished after alleged racist and sexist attacks, the schoolâs Daily Campus reports. âWe were called whores, and after establishing that I was a university professional I was verbally accosted, and intimidation tactics were used,â AKA Graduate Advisor Brittney Yancy said, speaking at a town hall meeting hosted by the African American Cultural Center On Monday. âThey called me a fat black bitch, not just a fat bitch but a fat black bitch.â âI have to deal with the fact that the student who has verbally accosted me received no punishment,â Yancy added of the late September incident. According to the Daily Campus, the fraternity was subject to sanctions including loss of rock-painting privileges after allegedly painting a spirit rock with racially charged words while verbally harassing soror members, however individuals were not punished. âPrivilege will ruin our reputation,â the sorority graduate advisor added. âAnd if it goes unchecked, this is how it impacts our community. It will determine who matters, who is protected, who gets access and who is worthy of justice on this campus." According to the report, Yancy only learned at the town hall meeting that they could file individual complaints against members of the fraternity, as well as a complaint against PIKE as a whole. âI think what is nauseating is the lack of transparency. It would have been great to know that someone needs to follow up on an individual complaint so we can take the appropriate actions,â she added. The Daily Campus noted the absence of any of the historically white sororities as well as any member of PIKE at the meeting. (Link to story in @greekshenanigans3 bio)

How to Make Your Para Stylish By: Elizabeth M.
Greetings everyone, this is the forth installment of the styling Greek series. This post is going to provide tips to everyone: prophytes, neophytes, men and women. We all know that standard para (nalia, peri, paraphernalia, etc.) can be pretty boring and sometimes unflattering. These are just some quick tips on how to make your para pop. Again, Thank you all for reading this post and as always please keep this conversation going. My blog is www.dopechixx.blogspot.com and IG:dope_chixx, please check it out. 1. Tuck your t-shirt into a more fitted bottom a. This is quick and easy. Whether itâs a skirt, pants or jeans, tucking your lettered t-shirt is super quick and creates a clean silhouette. It is important that your bottoms fit well, if they are too big or extremely tight tucking the t-shirt in will only add attention to those factors. b. Also, this takes away from the boxy effect. Para shirts are notoriously boxy in shape because they are stock, basic shirts. Tucking the shirt removes that boxy element and allows for a better fit. 2. Look for companies that sell para in a variety of shapes and fabrics a. There are companies that sell para in different shapes other than a box. When checking out certain websites, look at the sizing chart for options like âwomenâs styleâ or âwomenâs cutâ if you want a more curve hugging appeal. Also, look for places that sell customizable apparel. Finally, look for companies that sell items in different fabrics, as different fabrics tend to give a different fit. b. Here is a list of my favorite websites for this option: www.hautegreekscouture.com, www.tikimanstore.com, and www.goldtorchapparel.com. 3. Add a structured blazer/jacket in a non-conflicting color a. This is really simple. You have your base outfit of a bottom and a para shirt/hoodie/sweatshirt and you add structure to that by adding a jacket that pulls that look together. b. Some ideas for this would look like, for me, wearing my letter sweatshirt with royal blue ankle pants and a black blazer on top. Another idea is a letter hoodie with a dark hue, colored, corduroy pant and a denim jacket for a guy. You really can mix and match this how you want as it is really about being pulled together and creating shape even in your para clothing. 4. Pin It! When all else fails wear a pin, with either your organizational colors or a neutral outfit. a. Look for companies that make customizable pins, bracelets, or other accessories. This will add fun to your outfit instead of just a standard conference pin. b. Make sure your outfit fits, is fly and is appropriate, because there is no use in wearing a dope pin on a corny outfit. c. Some of my favorite retailers for Greek accessories are: www.refinedgreek.com and www.divine9pearls.com . 5. Finally, if you are creative, customize (really D.I.Y.) your own nalia. a. If you have a shirt thatâs too big, make it into a muscle tee by cutting the sides. Cut up the bottom for fringe effect or cut a scoop into the neckline. Itâs your para and as long as it is not distasteful, you can wear it how you want. My final suggestion is to make sure you donate all your unwanted paraphernalia to your organization, because no one needs to see spring 87 line jacket in Goodwill anymore!!

How to Dress Neos for Presentations by Elizabeth M.
This is the second installment in the styling Greek series. This post will focus on how to make neophytes look their best for any sort of first time presentation. The first time you present the new members of your organization, you want everything to be perfect or as close to perfect as you can achieve. The following are just some basic tips to help you to create an idea and/or dress your new members for the show. 1. Dress from the largest person on down. It is so much easier to add fabric to make adjustments to than to try and squeeze someone into an outfit. Most likely this is going to be the person that is the most difficult to dress, especially in relation to other people who have different bodies. ⢠Find a tailor shop that is able to accommodate the needs you have and if possible see if you can get custom made things. Places like www.eshakti.com allow you to add lengths ,shorten, add and take elements of articles of clothing. 2. Another Option is to use alternate outfits. Now, Iâm not suggesting completely different outfits. What I mean is keeping the base of your outfit the same, but alternating the statement/color piece. The latter can be a nice way to add visual interest to the show and it can be easier to find outfits. ⢠Jackets, cardigans and pants can be the easiest way to accomplish alternating outfits. ⢠Do not do miss match alternates all over, it becomes messy and tacky. 3. Ensure proper foundations on ALL neos. I cannot stress this enough. There is nothing worse than having a fly outfit and seeing lumps, bumps and panty lines. Making sure you have a clean foundation that will make for a nicer outfit and a better presentation. ⢠Foundation doesnât have to include hardcore spanx, it can be simple shapers, leotards, or even simple leggings. ⢠Everyone needs to have proper fitting undergarments and the same undergarments. If one person is wearing full coverage underwear, full coverage bra and sports bra, then everyone should be wearing the same thing otherwise it can show if you donât. 4. Make sure you choose universally flattering outfits. Itâs a difference in choosing an outfit that fits everyone and an outfit that flatters everyone. Blazers with shape, fit and flare dresses, and midi length anything are things that can be used for any figure. ⢠Checking out a body shape chart, that can also help bring clarity to what is figure flattering. 5. Finally, make sure your outfits are breathable and movable. Choose fabrics and clothing that will not easily tear or stretch out of shape. This will keep the clothing from falling down or clinging in the event of sweat. ⢠In general cotton items are breathable and come in a wide range of shapes. ⢠Try and stay away from cheaper fabrics like viscose, polyester, and spandex. Some of them maybe breathable or movable, but in certain cases cheaper fabrics provides for cheaper results. Thank you all for reading the first post and always please keep this conversation going. Back To School: Recruitment Edition By: Jennifer L. Sharp (PBL Blogger)
Itâs that time of year again! Thatâs right, itâs back to school time. It is also recruitment time for Greek-lettered organizations that are trying recruit new members. Here are a few tips for recruiting new members: Be open-minded: Donât just recruit certain types of people; be open-minded to whoever is interested in your organization. Be prepared: Prospects are going to have a lot-I mean a lot-of questions about your organization and what it will take for them to join. Be patient and donât give them too much information. Be observant: Be sure to carefully observe prospects; observe how they are inside and outside of the classroom. Include prospects: Invite prospects to community service and any upcoming events that your organization will have during the semester. I wish all of the Divine 9 the best of luck in academics and in recruiting new members!
