Aron Essam, Shareholder in local publishing. Big fish in a teeny tiny pond.

A town called Prose is home to || Aron Essam || who is a || thirty || year old, || cis man ||. They work as || share holder in Prosehill Publishers  ||. in Prose, they’re known as the || Mena Massoud || lookalike. || he/him || are known for || perfect hair, a stolen wink and late nights. 

Aron was raised in Prose, with his parents opening the famous Prose Publishing house with old University friends. The Essam’s are one of the wealthiest families in Prose, although you wouldn’t know it at a glance. 

Aron always knew that eventually he would end up taking on the family business and because of that he never engaged too much in school. He often plays down his own intelligence and often says things just to ensure no one looks to him. He never went to university and instead started working for the publishing house when he was eighteen. 

Aron’s parents got divorced when he was just fifteen and although they both live in Prose, bouncing between the two houses was often difficult. He loves both of his parents, but just wanted them to be happy. 

Aron enjoys a party and when he’s on a night out is the life of the party. He’s also incredibly caring and loyal and looks out for his friends. 

Aron has been streaming games online since his mid twenties, he has a few friends online who have no idea that he’s quite as wealthy as he his.

Erin laughed, realising what her words had sounded like. “Okay, yeah, it seemed like I was asking if you knew seven year olds. I mean, you may have one. But no, just what he might like for a party. My son.”

Aron smiled slightly, his eyes not leaving the woman. “I do not know any for the record... but like... what about cars or spacemen or horses. I was super obsessed with horses when I was seven.”

“what? why are you looking at me like that?” vivian asked confused but right after she let those words out of her mouth, she realized. “oh, I know. the crown. amelia made me wear it.” explaining, she giggled. “have we met before? princess elsa, it’s so nice to meet you.” the blonde woman joked. 

“Elsa... where have i heard that before?” Aron paused for a moment, his eyebrows furrowing in deep thought. “Is that like one of the teletubbies or something?”

“I mean what do you think I want? I’m trying to keep my poker face here,” Nate said, unable not to laugh. “That’s not a bad idea. I get so many comments about my hair.”

“I think you’re looking for an excuse not to get it cut, like a chicken.” he grinned, challenging the man. “I’ll get the razor, we’ll shave it. Fully off. It’s the only way.”

Belle looked at the familiar man, eyes glancing over him before her attention returned to the door. “I mean, I hate to admit that I needed help… but thank you,” she laughed a little. “My poor hair.”

Aron smiled, his eyes glancing over the baker... the very wet baker. “I think your hair looks perfect.” He let out a dorky laugh. “But if you had been out there much longer you might’ve drowned. So i am a hero.”

“You don’t happen to know seven year old boys, do you? I just want to give him a really good birthday,” Erin said to the person person her. She glanced around the shelves. “Maybe I am overthinking.”

“I don’t, no. But i was one once. A long time ago...” He narrowed his eyes, getting lost in thought. “Did you want me to invite seven year olds or help you plan a party?”

“Okay, okay, so I am doing a poll.” He paused. “About myself. Do you think I need a haircut?” Nate asked, trying to keep a straight face.

“Do you want a real answer that?” Aron asked his streaming friend, licking his lip slightly as he looked over Nate’s hair. “I think you could do with a trim. We could do it on camera. Donate to charity.”

Belle was rushing as fast as she could, the rain was coming down heavy and had already covered the bottom of her jeans in little specks of muddy splotches as she’d taken out the trash at the back of her bakery. She headed to the door and found it had jammed shut with the rain. “Shit,” she breathed, pulling at it. She looked up, the rain coming down heavier. “Oh my god, my hair. Door open.”

Aron was soaked through, his shirt sticking to his body as he noticed the woman struggling with the door. “Should i leave you to it?” He asked, smiling at the woman before moving and pulling the door with all of his strength. “I think it’s a little late to save your hair though.”

“I laugh because I know my father feels and thinks a lot of things,” he said gently. “Did he talk of me in my absence?” he asked, curious of how much emotion the old man had shown. “Well, I need to get healed up to be the man around the house again,” he nodded down at his leg. “Hmm, the cold weather is an odd thing. The chill on the journey home… and we heard of the crops. We can hope things pick up.”

The maid was always rather bold. “Of course he did, you are his only son. He is very fond of you.” She bowed her head. She didn’t want to give the old man away totally. “I am sure they will, they are tough people. They will be okay. I am certain of it.”

Aveline composed herself, she struggled at times, as much as she tried to hide it. She saw the women in the village with their husbands and children and how she longed for it. “Indeed, I learnt that very quickly,” she nodded, giving her friend a small smile. “Gosh, would we be allowed? I would… love… I used to have this scarf.”

Luna kept her arm around her friend. “I don’t see why not, they hardly know we have it and... well the Lord has never noticed before.”

Her brows furrowed only lightly so Agnes turned her head towards the sky, hiding the confusion that played upon her face for a mere heartbeat. She had never looked at it that way. When the war broke out, sitting idly at home while others thought for value and freedom… It had seemed impossible. But there were so many other women who never had the chance of being idle. “I have to admit that there is a lot of truth in your words. Women are heroes in more than one field” It felt wrong to admit that she herself was well cared for at home and Agnes could not help but feel a pang of guilt. “It is a shame. I am sure you do deserve that more than others”. She raised her arms to hug her own petite frame as the wind picked up again, wondering if the weather might pose an easier topic for conversation.

Luna shrugged smiling slightly as she reached towards a stall. “No.. I don’t deserve such things. I am a lady of comfort in my own way. The man i serve is kind and fair.” She nodded, sniffing one of the peaches.. it wasn’t quite ripe. “But the sentiment stands. I am sure you know your fair share of strong and wise women.”

“His pride and joy?” he repeated her words with a small laugh. “Hmm, he wants me back on my feet so I can take care of things again.” He looked at her. “Have you word from your father? Family?”

“You laugh, but it’s true.” She gave him a sad smile, he had no idea how the man had longed for his son’s return everyday. “Perhaps. He is getting older. And things are hard without a man in the house.” She nodded, turning the corner... it felt as though things would never get warmer. “My father is well. My family are farm hands.. they are safe although the harvest has been poor this year.”

Aveline squeezed her hand, her friend and fellow maid was the only person she had left to care about in this world. “They respect the coin of men… and it helps us to survive,” she nodded. “Fine… but not okay.”

Aveline was significantly wiser then the girl in many ways, but she knew she was harder. She had left her own child behind... but she knew Aveline still wished for that life deep down. “Survival is all we aspire too and that’s the sad truth.” She rubbed her arm. “I bought some new silk for the young master’s waistcoat. Perhaps we can use the extra for something nice to cheer you up.”

Aveline looked away once more, the child was an innocent in this awful world. “Yes… we are given money from rich men. I suppose we are lucky in a way. Come on… I don’t think I want to find out what is going to happen.”

Luna couldn’t help but think of her own daughter, at least she’d been safe from this kind of horror. “I suppose we are... and they almost respect us.” She pulled Aveline away, taking hold of her hand. “I am sure the child will be fine.”She mumbled, trying to convince them both.

“Just once or twice. In passing… or mumbled breaths,” he gave a half laugh. He was digging the stick into the ground as he held his weight. “Hmm, he’d be glad I’m up and about. The old man never shuts up about it. Okay… very well.”

She smiled, lifting her dress as she held the door open. “You are his pride and joy. It is right for a father to push his son. or at least that is what my father would say.”

Matteus looked at her waiting arm, the maid had made comments about him staying in his dark room. “I believe I have heard the thing about daylight before,” he said with a half smile. “I thought you had somewhere to be?”

“Once or twice sir, you know i disapprove of wallowing.” She held her head high, not showing weakness. “Ah, i perhaps did. But you also pay my wages. So if i must escort you for a walk i shall escort you for a walk. Your father shall not mind.”
