Why do we have a #NoParabens policy at @protostardistro? Here are a few ethical and scientific reasons why we won't every distribute products that contain #Parabens. . Parabens are preservatives that are used in cosmetics, foods and drugs; to inhibit the growth of fungus and bacteria. Recent studies have revealed questions around adverse effects that are serious enough for us to reconsider their safety profile. . Adverse effects of Parabens that the Cosmetic companies DO NOT want you to know are: . 1. Numerous studies have shown the presence of Parabens in #BreastTumours. Having been close to people who died from #BreastCancer, this is not cool with us. . 2. Parabens have weak #EstrogenicAction enough to alter sexual behaviour and links to Estrogenicity-related diseases. . 3. #Infertility in males; adverse affect on vitality of sperm both inside and outside the scrotum. . 4. Parabens promote skin #ageing. #methylparaben has been shown to decreased expressions of hyaluronan synthase 1 and 2 mRNAs and type IV collagen. So buying an anti-wrinkle cream with Parabens in it is a dark irony indeed. . 5. Parabens have been detected in soil, sewage water, swimming pools, house dust in developed countries acting as an environmental toxin. . Sadly the FDA have a different measure and have not banned them yet but we at #ProtoStarDistro are way ahead and have banned the inclusion of Parabens in any of the products we sell. Despite the low dosage we are exposed to them in volume and over long periods of time. It's not worth the risk. Especially when we have alternatives available. . In foods generally avoid preservatives. Go fresh, go organic. Scan the ingredients list and be aware that a label may say #parabenfree but it may not be organic so be aware. As of January 2018 #Plasticmicrobeads could no longer be used in #cosmetics and personal care products in the UK, after a long-promised ban came into effect. The ban initially bars the manufacture of such products and a ban on sales will follow in July. Although we at @protostardistro stated in our manifesto and consciousness that we would never stock products from our manufacturers that contained these products. . Thousands of tonnes of plastic #microbeads from products such as #exfoliatingfacescrubs and #toothpastes wash into the #sea every year, where they harm #wildlife and can ultimately be eaten by people. The UK government first pledged to ban plastic microbeads in September 2016, following a US ban in 2015. .
