                  a sudden clamor.  the sound of the door to the rectory’s main room slamming open against the wall.   all at once,   monsignor is upon his feet,   scrambling to the door that divided his bedroom from the rest of the rectory;   fingers fumble almost uselessly as he grasps at the knob,   and only growing shakier once the door’s been opened,   and he has come face to face with his visitor.      ❛      you ... ...         you are    —?     ❜                                           /     @sinspast​​ !

                   ❛      𝐖𝐀𝐍𝐓 𝐓𝐎 𝐊𝐍𝐎𝐖 𝐖𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐈 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐊?   ❜      it’s sudden,   the way the words leave his lips.   it’s almost as though they are unintentional,   spoken in the moment,   wherein spontaneity   (   𝗢𝗥 𝗪𝗔𝗦 𝗜𝗧 𝗪𝗘𝗔𝗞𝗡𝗘𝗦𝗦?   )   overtook him,   for lack of a better way to put it.   his gaze drifts from the features of the man sat beside him on the bench,   instead falling to the styrofoam cup of coffee clasp neat in his hands,   and set upon his lap.   stillness sets upon him in the brief moments that follow,   coupled with the faintest tinge of a smile upon his lips.   just a moment’s silence,   stillness,   and then no more;   for father paul hill’s lips part to speak again with time.      ❛      i think you’re brave,   dean.   i mean that.   coming to the church,   telling me all of these  —    these things you’ve been struggling with ... ...   it can be hard,   you know,   but you did it.   you took the first step.    and i’m glad you did.      ❜                                           /     @graceimbrued​​ !

                    ❛      𝐋𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐍 𝐓𝐎 𝐌𝐄, 𝐑𝐈𝐋𝐄𝐘 𝐅𝐋𝐘𝐍𝐍  —     ❜      his voice,   steady,   even,   still.   the same voice with which he’d deliver his sermon,   from his position at the pulpit,   on high,   before the word of the lord and all those lambs he was meant to deliver to sanctuary.   to eternal life.   this thing,   this transformation which the monsignor had undergone in solitude,   which riley flynn now underwent beneath his watchful eye   (   though unprecedented,   to be sure;   his return to the recreational facility the night prior had been a surprise,   not just to the priest but to his    𝗛𝗘𝗔𝗩𝗘𝗡𝗟𝗬 𝗛𝗢𝗦𝗧,   as well.   )   ... ...   it was a gift.   it was a gift.   would that the younger would come to understand more quickly.      ❛      listen.   you’re alright.   better than alright,   really.   don’t you see it?   𝐆𝐎𝐃 𝐇𝐀𝐒 𝐀 𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐍 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐘𝐎𝐔.   a new plan.   and this is just the beginning of it.        ❜                                           /     @rflynn​ .

sometimes i think about the ending of midnight mass / what transpired with mr pruitt specifically and some part of me is like ... ... there's no way he couldn't have known what he was doing was wrong prior to the situation in the church in ep 6. there's no way he couldn't have known that this "angel" wasn't actually an angel. that maybe he made himself believe it was some kind of godly miracle because it gave him, specifically, a second chance. and like. sure it demanded literal blood in exchange for that change but nothing came free, not even from god, right?
