I once asked u if u were willing to give tips on drawing... I practice with my draing but i cant do anything "decent" unless i have references and i feel like im copying someone's work so I dont like it. And I cannot color for my life, at all, it just looks horrendous. Any tips?
that really depends on your style. if you do realistic drawings (as mine, for example), i really have no other tip than to use a reference. and “to use a reference” doesn’t mean that you have to copy it. it just helps you to understand shape, planes, shadows and lights, because really? ALL great artists used references and they didn’t feel bad about it. well, that was because they had a privelege to draw live models, but now it’s all so much easier, and some people think that to use a photo as a ref is cheating. well, go on then and hire yourself live model, if you don’t wanna be a cheater and use advantages of modern life.
i had a practice of drawing from nature when i studied in university, so i think i have a right to talk about all this the way i do. maybe some people can keep everything in mind, i’m happy for them, they are really cool and badass if they can pull masterpieces straight from their head without any sources of help.
the thing about refs is how you use them, that’s all. consider them as help, no one urges you to draw exactly what you see on refs, use your imagination! but if you’re struggling during the drawing process in general, i would recommend you to do some studies before you’ll start to draw something from your head. like your favorite actors/musicians/just people you like or find attractive. for me personally this is the main part – i enjoy to draw people whom i find attractive/beautiful and when i draw for myself, i always draw everyone beautiful and flawless :D

i always start with basic colors and then i just i really don’t know? i just draw and draw and add details? i’m not really good at explaining such things. but you have to choose color palette first, and to do so, you have to have a feeling of color? i think this thing goes on some kind of subconscious level? of course, you can study color circle and see what colors harmonize together.
