Your playing in Soundgarden caught my attention, your writing caught my heart, and your music made a pillow for my sick head. You drive me mad with your complexities and yet you continue to allure me with your madness and your beautiful soul.

I have drawn him more times than anybody (two of those drawings I want to actually give him). His solo album In Deep Owl gets more plays than anything in my music library. I love Hater to death (I mean, for God’s sake, my Twitter name is @down_undershoe).

In my realm, he is known as The Big Tall Man, The Tall Guy, Emperor Neptune, Mr. Shepherd, HBS, and simply Ben.

Today is Hunter Benedict Shepherd’s 47th birthday, and sadly, it is impossible for me to top last year in sending him the birthday card I made for him: that was a unique feeling of breaking down the barriers, both emotional and physical, surrounding both me and him. I sure as bloody hell on Earth could do it again no problem, but the feeling would not be the same.
