Hello, I am a beginner artist and part of the Minecraft fandom, particular the V/Illager part (most of my Minecraft-related content is found on alt blog: Realm of Myriad) I am curious of what shapes do you use to draw the body base. Do you use circles? Squares? Triangles? I really want to get better with drawing.
Also, here’s my parting gift:
My “Nitwit” Villager OC, Florence, gives your Villager OC, Pim, a cornflower because he finds it cool thst he’s not the only Nitwit trying to find a job (or rather master all the jobs) that he could get into without harming himself (because he has really bad luck in breaking things).
Hello! Oh man, wasn't expecting to be asked advice! First of all, thank you very much.
There's so much I could say here. When it comes to shapes, it's good to understand shape language and anatomy. Squares are often used for sturdiness or bulk, circles for smoothness or soft features, and triangles for sharpness or to slim down a form. I actually use each, in different mixtures depending on what I am drawing! What is also important is that it's not just shapes, but understanding them in a 3-dimensional space.
For Pim, for example, I use a sphere/circle for their head, a cube/square for their chest & pelvis, and cubes/squares for their palms & feet. For their legs & arms I use more of a cylinder, and I connect areas like their chest and pelvis with somewhat slimmer lines, kind of like taking two triangles, pointing them at each other, and pushing them into each other. (Really, though, I don't use straight up shapes as much anymore, but that's just because I've gotten familiar with drawing humanoid anatomy. I still practice regularly, though, and I myself can still improve.)
This, of course, isn't the only way to do this. If you're wanting to understand shapes and anatomy, I'd recommend practicing the basics and building up from there. This can mean studying actual people, characters you like, or whatever else helps you best. Have fun with it! I'm no expert, I'm genuinely just a fellow artist who enjoys drawing, so take my advice with a grain of salt.
And in response to Florence...
Pim has a gift in return! (They tend to forage all sorts of goods, both for themself and for others.)
